Brilliant Sport for all and everyone.

Fantastic way to get into or back into rugby without the contact, and to play to the level you want to play to (social/competitive). There are a lot of social aspects going on around it too which is ace.
The tournament days are second to none.
My only criticism is around the ever evolving pricing structure and how the leagues are worked through.
Definitely come join if you want to make some friends, have a laugh, be competitive and get fitter! There is also an opportunity to earn some pocket money and improve your knowledge by refereeing.

Try Tag Rugby

I joined try tag rugby over a year ago and can honestly say it was a game changer from both a fitness and social perspective.

Firstly in terms of the sport it's perfect for all ability levels, even if you haven't played any form of rugby before, the game is simple and fun to get involved in.

Secondly I joined due to the appeal of the social side, and it honestly did not disappoint, I have made so many new friends that I now class as some of my closest friends.

The team at try tag rugby are just as amazing (Lewis, Bobby, Carl and Charlie), they do a fantastic job and it's a pleasure to know them also.

With the offering of a free taster I urge anyone to come down and give it a try, I promise it'll be worth it.

I highly recommend Try Tag Rugby!

I started playing tag rugby a few years ago when I had the urge to play rugby but also wanted to keep my weekends free. I loved it straight away and haven’t stopped playing since.

The sport itself is very fast paced and skilful, and really feels a lot like a full game of rugby league, but without having to take any hits! The pitches are all a good size and allow for some really flowing passing and running.

Just as good as the sport, and maybe even better, is the community. I started out joining with a group of friends and I found the staff and other players so welcoming that I have since joined teams as an individual and played with other players who signed up on their own, and I currently play in two teams in Yorkshire made up of people I have met through Try Tag Rugby, and would now consider very good friends.

All competitions are well organised and I have yet to meet any league staff who aren’t really nice people and very open to chat about any issues, or just what I’ve been up to at the weekend. The match nights usually have a place for a pint after, with food included in your league fees, which you can’t argue about when you’re already paying less than most 5/7 a-side football leagues. The competitions all run extremely well, with multiple grades for all levels of player and there are social and competitive events throughout the year which are always great fun.

For anyone who is thinking about joining Try Tag Rugby, I could not recommend it more highly.

Getting worse

Agree with George Katralis' review below; was fun at the beginning, but now the best staff keep leaving, the referee training is getting worse, and listening to the customers is not a priority anymore.

Any time you complain, you get a standard "sorry, we are trying to sort things out, if you don't like it, complain again" response.

They don't like people criticising them publicly, so prepare for your Facebook comments to be blocked if you speak too much truth.

I thought I would write a review to help new players who are thinking of joining. I would highly recommend Try Tag Rugby. Anyone who is looking to get into rugby regardless of ability, or just looking to expand their social circle. It's a great hobby that keeps you active, helps you make great friends and is great fun. Joining Try Tag Rugby was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

I joined solo and was paired with a great team. It was easy to do. Everyone is really welcoming across both my team and the entire league. It's very well organised and refereed, and I've met so many awesome people. You get to go to the pub after the game for a social catch up with free pizza. What more do you want? Sign up now!!

Once was awesome, not to much anymore

I have played tag rugby for most of my life and been involved with try tag rugby in the UK since 2011.

Back when I started, try tag was still in its early days and with that carried the advantage of having a booming social element due to having less leagues, less teams and fewer players. I felt the company thrived with the opportunities that a small scale brought with it, it meant that each league and one day tournament was run with a very high level of proficiency, expertise, fun and genuine good times were had and life long friendships were made. Fun and inclusiveness was encouraged and it bread an atmosphere that anyone of any sex, size or shape could come along and have a go. And for a long time, it was amazing.

As well as the fun side, the league itself was run at a professional level with league organisers always on hand and referees being trained to a very high level of the game. The refs played as well as reffed and understood the rules inside out, which meant that each game was reffed fairly and well.

As with most businesses, try tag grew in popularity and numbers, but I felt that there was no plan in place for that.
Leagues were all over London and year by year the company recorded record numbers, but with it came a dramatic and noticeable drop of quality across all leagues. It just became an unenjoyable and often nasty experience.

Suddenly, due to the high demand, leagues grew but were not graded. New players were miss sold 'beginner social leagues' but instead guy and girls who'd never touched a football before in tehir lives were facing off against GB reps, and with the 30-0 score line becoming a regular occurrence for most teams on a weekly basis, sadly a lot of teams folded and people walked away. Try tag had lost that all inclusive, anyone can have a go vibe which is once carried so brightly.

As well as this drop in league fairness, the sport saw a drop in ref standards too. Refs were at the start trained for the job which they got paid for. Often in the early days we'd play a friendly and a new ref was being coached by the league organiser and be given tips on what to work on and what they did well, however now we see anyone who wants to earn as easy £11 put their hand up for a yellow shirt and run out there without a clue of the rules. It's embarrassing and frustrating as a player who knows the rules to be told by a ref that the 'six again rule doesn't exist' or that they 'wont call the fends because it'll just slow down the game' or my personal favourite 'I didn't see it, but the defending team said they saw a knock on, so i'll call that'.
I have complained about this several times to the ref themselves, the league organiser and even the former CEO of the company but the standard keeps dropping and the complaints from the people who pay to play fall of def ears. I know I personally filled out the survey yearly and have never once had a reply.

For what once was a great game run and played by really great people, has sadly lost its charm in the name of growth and profit.

Reply from Try Tag Rugby

Hi George,

Thank you for taking the time to feedback.

Whilst we have had some growing pains as we expanded we still operate Leagues and one-day tournaments to a very high standard, and we pride ourselves on the professionalism of our staff and our referees. That's not to say we can't improve and we're always striving to be better.

Feedback on our annual players survey remains consistently high with 98.13% of players saying they would recommend Try Tag Rugby to a friend in 2018. Sorry you weren't contacted directly after filling in the players survey, but rest assured comments and scores are reviewed and analysed extensively by our management team each year before changes are made.

We try hard to ensure that individuals are placed in teams and grades suitable for them but it's not always possible. With the league in question, this league initially ran as one division because we didn't get the amount of new teams and players we expected to sign up. We had planned for it to run with two divisions. Just like all businesses, occasionally we get the projections wrong. The league did however split into a cup and plate to finish the season.

We also still hold Free Taster Sessions where everyone is welcome and these are really well attended, with many players ending up joining teams or creating teams and being with us for years after first joining as a complete beginner.

All our referees have training prior to taking to the field, they are encouraged to take a keen interest in the sport and we hold regular forums and workshops to help top up their knowledge. Sadly the one-on-one training we provided when the company was smaller can no longer take place due to the number of referees we need on a daily basis, however we are always looking to improve our training and will take your comments into consideration. We often start referees on friendly games, and on the rare occasion a referee is put straight into a game is when they've had previous experience in Australia or within Rugby Union or Rugby League.

Please rest assured we're looking into all the issues you've raised in your review and email and will make any appropriate changes to address the issues asap.

Give it a try

I started tag rugby to get a good mix of socialising and fitness, and got a whole lot more than I bargained for. Tag is a great community and I recommend it to everyone. Even those who have never done sport before. If you just want to run around and get some fresh air, come and play. If you just want to meet new people, still come and play.

Fantastic Fun

Discovered Try Tag Rugby in my local park, after approaching a player to find out how to get involved I was invited onto their team. It has been a fantastic way to meet new people and keep fit at the same time.
Leagues are really well organised with a good social scene after games. Many social teams play for fun so get involved regardless of your fitness levels or experience. I'd say it's a number one way to make friends and have fun in a friendly sporting community.

Great way to get fit and meet new people

I have been playing TAG Rugby with TTR now and have never looked back.
I registered as an Individual and was placed into a new great team.
The league is exceptionally well run and the organisers are really friendly and helpful.
In addition the the rugby itself which is a great little workout, there is always a post match social.
Would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking to get into sport regardless of ability, or just looking to expand their social circle!

Fantastic sport and a great community

Tag Rugby is a fantastic sport and Try Tag have done a truly brilliant job developing it across the UK over the past ten years. Their biggest achievement, however, has been the community they've built around the game and the fantastic atmosphere around their tournaments which they've developed.

When I arrived in London I was, like most new Londoners, looking for something to keep active with and a community to join. Try Tag Rugby provided that and more - fun, friendship and fitness! Five years, and multiple leagues, tournaments, holidays, weddings and so forth on, I'm still playing and still having a great time. What more could you ask for?

Get fit, make friends

Joining Try Tag Rugby was one of the best decisions I made, and made 2018 (and 2019 so far!) truly awesome. Very well organised and refereed, and I've met so many awesome people. When I started I had never played rugby (tag or otherwise) in my life, but everyone was so friendly and happy to help me learn. Get fit, make friends, spend post-games at the pub! What more do you want?
Admittedly, it can be a little costly, but overall, well worth it!

Great game, great set up

Wanted some exercise and to play a bit of rugby. Wasn't sure full contact would really fit into working life and touch rugby is a bit lame. Tag is a great half way house.

I joined solo and was paired with a team. It was easy to do. Everyone is really welcoming across both my new team and the wider league. It's well run and very convenient.

I would highly recommend to any skill levels as a great hobby that keeps you active.

Playing Tag with TTR

I was unsure about playing tag rugby but TTR were so beginner friendly and it was so easy to integrate right in. I also love how social it is!
