We got an offer at our school of choice!!!

We were looking for a tutor familiar with the gsal test and process when miss Joanna was recommended to us by another mum. We didn't have very much time until the entrance test so miss Joanna assessed both my girls and found their potential weak spots and prioritised them for the time we had left to prep. She offered the year 6 two sessions a week for English and offered the year 3 one session a week for maths. Both kids always came out of the sessions feeling positive. This week we just found out they both passed the entrance test and have been offered places. Thank you miss Joanna and to the team for your support on that final push.

Apologies for the delay in responding to your very kind review - I've had that dreaded cold and it knocked me for six! We're all delighted to hear that both girls were successful at receiving a place at GSAL and delighted that we could be part of their journey. Good luck to you all and your move to Leeds. If you need any future help, please do let me know. Take good care.

Top- Class Tutoring

My daughter has been attending Leeds Tuition Centre for the past two years in preparation for her GCSE examinations.
Joanna and her team are excellent tutors and provide top-class academic support. They believe in my daughter’s ability and push her to reach her full potential. She has just completed her Year 11 MOCKS and achieved higher than her predicted grades in both English and Maths, something we are grateful to LTC for helping her to accomplish.
I have given Leeds tuition Centre 5 stars, not only for their tutoring services but also for Joanna’s flexibility and understanding when it comes to rescheduling those “missed” sessions and for the excellent communication and detailed feedback I receive at the end of every session. Thank you so much.

I enrolled my daughter for Maths…

I enrolled my daughter for Maths tuition quite late in the day (after Easter) as her mock GCSE was grading a predicted 3 - she needed to get a 4 or above in order to get on her chosen college course. Joanna did an initial assessment of her ability and it matched school’s predictions……my daughter attended for 2 sessions per week up until her exams and she has just got her GCSE Maths result today and she has got a grade 4 ! She’s delighted and I have to say it is all down to to tuition provided from Joanna and Lesley - they not only provided a huge boost to my daughter’s confidence but managed to drill down to where the gaps in knowledge were and focused on these. They provided feedback after each session and additional homework for her to complete……I can wholeheartedly recommend Joanna and her team and am so pleased for my daughter….again many many thanks 🤩

We don't normally enrol students so late but your daughter showed great promise and I knew that with consistent effort and attendance that we could get her over the hump as moving from a Grade 3 to 4 is not as easy as some would think. I am sure this confidence boost will stand her in good stead for College. Good luck with everything and thank you for trusting that we knew what we were doing and how best to help.

My daughter's maths grades have improved since she began her tution classes.
The communication with the centre is very efficient.
They give prompt and constructive feedback on each session attended.
They try their best to compensate for each session missed for unforseen circumstances.

My review

It was extremely useful, Joanna has really helped my daughter achieve to her potential especially in English. We have tried several different tutoring places but none have been as good as this especially how she has improved in English. Lesley has also really helped my daughter really improve in her maths to not make silly mistakes. My daughter has gone to this tutoring since year9 (she’s finished year 11), Joanna and Lesley have helped her get the chance of receiving her predicted grades. Thank you so much for teaching my daughter.

Leeds tuition Center is one of the best…

Leeds tuition Center is one of the best tutoring Centers around, staffed by highly qualified teachers.

Our son Joshua started attending the Center 5 year ago and during this period, we have seen so much improvement in his learning. He has been getting plenty of praises from his school as well as the tuition Center. He has developed a lot of confidence in his ability in both mathematics and English.

Recently he did entrance assessment for year 7 for Bradford grammar school, The Grammar School at Leeds and Gateways school, in which he did exceptionally well and has been offered a place in all of them.

Many many thanks to Joanna and her team. We are very appreciative of the effort and hard work you have put into bringing the best in Joshua. Without Leeds tuition Center he wouldn't have been this confident in his ability.
Thank you. Irene

Irene, Joshua has been an absolute delight to teach over the years. He is enthuastic, listens to the feedback given and acts on it. That is why he has made such tremendous progress and continued to do so to the point where he has had the pick of schools. I know that Joshua will go onto achieve very well in his GCSEs as he has a rock solid foundation. We can literally teach him anything. Thank you. Joanna

Approach with caution

My venture into Leeds Tuition Centre for my daughter's academic evaluation was not only disappointing but also raised serious concerns about their educational ethos and student evaluation practices.

During the assessment, which included a variety of Maths and English tests, it became apparent that the Centre's approach to student capability and progression is deeply flawed. The feedback, particularly from the director Joanna, was not just discouraging but shockingly dismissive of realistic educational standards.

Joanna asserted that my daughter would be unlikely to succeed in the Heckmondwike Grammar School entrance exam, claiming that the school insists on students being two years ahead academically. This assertion led to my daughter, a Year 4 student, being tested against Year 6 benchmarks—an expectation that is not only absurd but also directly contradicts the guidelines provided by Heckmondwike Grammar School itself. Leeds Tuition Centre's insistence on such an unrealistic academic leap does not align with the school's own preparatory advice and sets an impractical and daunting standard for students.

The proposed remedy by Joanna – a rigorous tutoring regime – was conveyed in a manner that was both aloof and condescending. Implying that even after extensive tutoring a student may barely be prepared to 'attempt' the exam is not only demoralizing but also strips away the confidence and enthusiasm from young learners.

What was particularly distressing was witnessing the impact of this interaction on my daughter, who was visibly upset and disheartened by the bleak and unforgiving assessment of her abilities by someone who should be an encouraging and supportive figure in her educational journey. The foundational years of education should be about fostering a love for learning, self-belief, and intellectual curiosity, not about overwhelming students with unrealistic expectations.

The notion that a student should be two years ahead in their studies is not only baseless but also imposes an undue burden on young minds. It is crucial for educational centres to provide guidance that is in harmony with realistic academic benchmarks and the preparatory guidelines recommended by educational institutions.

In summary, while Leeds Tuition Centre may provide structured academic evaluations, the methods of feedback and the setting of unattainable academic targets are both troubling and indicative of a misguided approach to education. I implore Leeds Tuition Centre to re-evaluate their assessment techniques and feedback methodologies to ensure they are cultivating an environment that promotes not only academic prowess but also the psychological well-being and self-esteem of their students.

To other parents – I advise approaching Leeds Tuition Centre with caution. The journey towards academic achievement should be stimulating, achievable, and above all, nurturing and affirmative.

All feedback is welcome.

However, whilst everyone is entitled to their opinions, falsehoods will be challenged.

1. You came for an academic assessment on the potential for your daughter to achieve a place at Heckmondwike Grammar.

2. I gave your daughter work on 11+, Year 6 and Year 4 maths questions. She did well on the 11+ multi choice question, but not so on the Year 6 and then Year 4 questions which she did okay with. All topics were given in line with the National Curriculum except the 11+ maths questions. Therefore, age appropriate and ability appropriate tests were performed.

Your daughter did display contrary results and I questioned whether this was due her lack of stamina. You didn’t seem convinced by this and so we proceeded with the rest of the feedback.
I informed you that she did particularly well with her comprehension assessment, excelling significantly above her age – beyond what I would be looking for in her age group.

3. The current climate for 11+ places at Private and Grammar school are highly competitive. Students who are 2/3 years above their age-related ability are the ones who are winning these places, especially if it is for a Grammar school that offers a scholarship or in your case wanting to take advantage of a non-paying academically challenging environment.

I do not control this. I move with and adjust to the demands placed on students. It is an 11+ exam for a reason, as not all children are able to sit and pass it. I agreed with you that she may well make progress if she had support to pass a Grammar test. I also gave you anecdotal evidence of a current student who is preparing for the 11+. At the time of his assessment, I warned parents that he would be unlikely to pass the 11+. Whilst this might still be the case, he has however made significant progress, so I recommended that we start teaching 11+ and he's doing very well. Beyond my expectations.

4. I recommended that she attend twice a week (each session is 70 mins) - this is hardly 'a rigorous regime' and in line with all students who attend the centre for 11+ preparation or indeed for any other reason if they want both subjects. The only ones who attend once a week are those who have excelled in either English or Maths to such an extent that no preparation is needed in that subject.

5. I provided professional feedback on what I consider will be the requirements to meet the standards set by Heckmondwike and other Grammar or Private schools in the area.

6. It is not to my benefit to lie to a parent about any situation. I can only give you feedback, and advice based on what the child can do and provide professional recommendations in line with my experience as an educator of 25 years and a business owner and educator for the last 11 years.

7. To write such a review after discussing when your daughter could attend my centre, is simply baffling. Why raise this if you found my approach offensive and without compassion? Would you really talk like this with someone who you considered to be tyrannical and who runs a regime?

10. As you were leaving you admitted to me that you had been teaching your own daughter maths. I am sure that as an Accountant this must be very disappointing to realise that she isn't as far along as you'd hoped.
