Don’t order. What I ordered vs what I’ve grown is completely not accurate. Very disappointing

Poor quality bulbs

I spent $50 on bulbs with the thought of forcing some Hyacinth for gifts on Valentines Day. I'm a seasoned gardener and have done this many time without an issue, sometimes with grocery store clearance rack bulbs. What I got didn't grow, rotting or stunted growth at best. All efforts with customer service was to make it somehow my fault. Now I see many similar complaints. Shame on you Tulip World.

Hi Doug,

Thank you for your review of our company and the bulbs you ordered for forcing. We are sorry to hear that the bulbs you ordered did not grow. Forcing bulbs is always a bit more difficult than when they are planted in the ground. We certainly want to help you to understand what may have caused the bulbs to not grow, which is why our customer service department asks questions and for photos to help you better in the future. A customer care specialist will reach out to you see how we can provide additional help and information with your order.

Rotten Moldy Bulbs SCAM

Ordered 3 varieties of pre-chilled bulbs.
Upon arrival there was mold on some. Others had dried out and will NEVER grow and some were mushy. No integrity at this company. I called customer service. Then emailed proof with photos.
Was told they would credit my card. "I have refunded your items that arrived in poor condition."
I paid $35 for bulbs and they credited my CC $2.24!
I called again and was told they credited me for 6 bulbs that they determined to be bad. It is at their discretion.
I have photos of what has not grown after 5 weeks in soil. The worst company I have ever dealt with. They might give a merch credit but YOU will have to pay SHIPPING and TAX AGAIN. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Forcing bulbs can certainly be a bit more difficult, however, more of the bulbs you ordered should have grown. I tried to make this work

I spent $51 on a variety box of chilled bulbs "suitable for indoor forcing". Only 2 of the bulbs bloomed; producing sickly looking spindly flowers, not healthy blooms. The rest never grew roots.

After 5 emails to customer service: TulipWorld refuses to refund my credit card, instead offering to give me merchandise credit. Unfortunately, they only sell bulbs. After my experience, and after reading other reviews, the last thing I want is more of these bulbs.

Hi Susan,

Thank you for your review of our company. We are sorry to hear that you did not have success with the pre-chilled bulbs you ordered from us. Pre-chilled bulbs certainly can be some of the more difficult ways to grow flower bulbs, as they are being grown outside of their preferred natural environment.
For pre-chilled bulb sales our policy is to issue a merchandise credit if they don't grow. We do sell bare root perennials as well as flower bulbs for planting outside in spring and fall. We hope you will re-consider and try our products again.

SCAM Company No Product Guarantee

This company does not stand by its products as they claim. I was sent rotten bulbs so I contacted customer service with 7 pictures for a replacement. Customer service continually ignored me for weeks until I threatened a chargeback then customer service refused to help lying about the "quality" of their rotten product. I had to open a chargeback which of course they lied on (mind you lying on a chargeback is criminal but these guys don't seem to care.)

Avoid this company at all costs. From my own experience and research, they are 100% a scam.

I ordered hyacinth bulbs

I ordered hyacinth bulbs, and when I opened them, one was very moldy. Not prone to allergies, I had a severe burning sensation on my neck which took about 20 minutes to get under control
Concerned it would continue, I threw the bulbs away. When I contacted customer service, I was told that this has happened to other customers, and they can't control customers' allergic reactions. So no apology and no refund.

Hi Linda,

Thank you for your review and experience with the hyacinth bulbs in your order. We are sorry to hear that one of the bulbs arrived moldy and may have caused an allergic reaction. The skin of hyacinth bulbs contains calcium oxalate which can cause mild itching in some people who handle them. While it is possible that the mold caused the allergic reaction it is most likely small particles from the skins of the hyacinth bulbs that caused this burning sensation. We are sorry to hear the mild discomfort you experienced when handling the hyacinth bulbs. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with.

I never got the bulbs or a call back!

I ordered pre-chilled bulbs so I could have hyaciths for Christmas. I ordered them almost a month ago and still don't have them. There is no one answering the phone and their "Live Chat" option is a fraud (it doesn't even open). No one has called me back even though I have left several messages for weeks. -Do not order here if you want your bulbs.

Hi Eva,

Thank you for your review and your order. Our pre-chilled bulbs do not begin shipping until the beginning of December since they are still in the chilling phase when our pre-sale begins. We state on all of the pre-chilled items that shipping does not begin until mid-December. We apologize if that information was not noticed when you placed your order. We will try to find your information and reach out to you directly regarding this order.

Customer Service is Very Poor

I put an order in early October, they said in stock and ready to ship. The first order was canceled and they never told me. The second time I put in the same order the agent forgot to complete the sale and I never got that order. I have put the order in a third time now and hope to get it soon, who knows. I decided to report the poor experience to their Customer Service Department. Two calls into them and no callback. Not impressed and won't use them or recommend them again.

Hi Andrea,

Thank you for your review regarding our services. We are sorry to hear there was some confusion with the order you placed. When looking up your account we found the order that was placed on October 16th. It appears the initial payment was not accepted for some reason. However, 30 minutes later we were able to process the order. On November 3rd the order was sent out. According to USPS the order was delivered on November 5th.
We are sorry we were not available to answer the phone when you called to give you an update. We typically try to reply to all emails and return calls as quickly as possible. During peak season in October and November, it may take us a bit longer, however we certainly do our best to make sure our customers are taken care of and informed on their order. We hope you will reconsider and give us another chance in the future!

High Failure Rate of Plants

I ordered 9 Siberian iris rhizomes from Tulip World in March 2020. The rhizomes and roots arrived totally dried out. Roots were soaked in water and rhizomes properly cared for. Only two survived with 4 never growing at all and 3 barely showing 1" high foliage then dying within six weeks. I contacted Tulip world informing them of my college education in botany & horticulture informing them that their dormancy process of drying the rhizomes was responsible for their high failure rate. I received no response from TW. I asked for a refund but they sent a replacement order in accordance with their policy even after I indicated the high failure rate of their first order would be repeated if I did not receive bare root live plants which I requested. The replacement rhizomes and roots arrived totally dry again and had a 100% failure rate and never grew at all after an additional 6 weeks as TW required for growth. I asked for refund and was only given a credit for the plants according to their policy. I only received a refund after informing them I was turning the matter over to my credit card company and after sending them written documentation from the American Iris Society and two Iris Specialty Nurseries stating that iris roots must be kept moist or wet during transplanting and shipping directly contrary to TW’s dormancy process of drying out their iris rhizomes and roots and shipping them in a dry, dormant state. Tulip World demonstrated no knowledge or understanding of the basic propagation methods and shipping methods for proper iris survival and growth throughout our entire communication process and never replied to any requests I made for an explanation from them for their high failure rate during the entire communication process as well from early April to late June 2020.

Hi Larry,

Thank you for your review of our company and the Siberian Iris roots you ordered in Spring. We are sorry to hear that the roots did not grow for you and that they seemed dry upon arrival. All of our bare-root products are kept in cold storage where they remain dormant and cool prior to shipping. It is not our intention for any of the roots we ship to arrive overly dry or overly moist. We are sorry that we weren't able to get these items to you in a way that would allow for success in your garden. It appears we have resolved the matter regarding the refund of the order, and we wish you the best of success in all of your future garden endeavors!

Excellent quality bulbs

Excellent quality bulbs. My astilbe are already blooming after being in the ground for a month, and the hosta are getting huge. I highly recommend this company.
