I enrolled in a Spanish groupGreat instructor, but the program is disorganized and grammar-heavy
I enrolled in a Spanish group. The cost was appealing, plus it’s convenient that the classes are subscription-based.
Pros:
• The instructor is pleasant to communicate with and is willing to revisit topics if needed. When it comes to practice, we discuss aspects of our own lives.
• It’s convenient to have a platform for lessons where you can review topics, vocabulary, and complete homework.
• Some instructors live in Spain.
Cons:
• There are errors on the platform, even in the grammar descriptions. This means that if the instructor doesn’t notice the mistake or if I’m reviewing the topic on my own, I might learn it incorrectly.
• Overall, there’s a lot of grammar to study! It reached the point where feedback was given, suggesting that while we’re learning grammar, we should also try to speak at least a little. Thanks to the instructor for adjusting. If you strictly follow the program plan, it’s dry grammar.
• It’s unclear why the program includes poems and philosophical quotes for study. My level is A0-A1, and my primary desire is to start speaking at least something. Why poems, guys?
• New people are added to the group throughout the course. It’s one thing if they have a similar level, but we’ve had instances where students with around a B1 level join the lesson. Even the instructor was sometimes surprised, as there was no information about new additions. Moreover, the incoming students’ levels were clearly not assessed; the instructor had to determine their level during the lesson, giving the new student extra attention.
• The program is unusual. For example, I currently feel like I’m at a weak A1 level. I know the present tense and the future form. And suddenly, we start covering actions that began in the past and continue into the present. We haven’t studied the past tense yet, and now this. Maybe it’s some modern program, but practically, it seems logical to first go through the past tense.
In summary, the instructor is pleasant. There are questions about the other aspects.
