Written by the company

Tutorperch is a UK directory of independent tutors, built around one simple idea: charge once for the introduction, then get out of the way. Browsing and messaging tutors is free. When a student or parent finds a tutor they want to work with, they pay a one-off finder's fee to unlock contact details. From that point on, lessons, scheduling, and payment are arranged directly between the tutor and the student. No commission, no per-lesson cut, no subscription, no markup. Most UK tutoring platforms take 15–35% of every lesson, indefinitely. We don't. The tutor-student relationship belongs to the people in it — once we've made the introduction, we have no claim on what happens next. Every published tutor passes an identity check before going live. Tutors can also submit a safeguarding check — DBS, PVG (Scotland), or AccessNI (Northern Ireland) — for manual admin review, earning a Background-Checked badge that refreshes every three years. Verification is done by a human reviewer, not an algorithm. We cover tutors across academic subjects (Primary, GCSE, A-Level, undergraduate), exam preparation (11+, university admissions tests), and specialist subjects. Tutors set their own rates, lesson terms, and availability. Tutorperch handles the introduction; everything after that is between the tutor and the student.

Easy to use

Easy to use, accessible, and feels very modern and sleek. Really excited for a whole new platform.

No commission keeps prices reasonable

The zero-commission model is the best and most straightforward way for tutors to find students and earn a living and to minimise prices for students. In my brief time working with them, they have been responsive and transparent.

A Fairer Platform for Tutors and Parents

I am a tutor who worked with First Tutors for many years, so the closure was honestly quite worrying at first.

Tutorperch has been one of the few platforms actively trying to support tutors during this transition. I especially appreciate that they do not take commission from tutors or parents for every lesson, which I think is a much fairer model for education.

Too many tutoring websites now take large percentages from both tutors and families, which can make lessons unnecessarily expensive while tutors still receive less.

Tutorperch is still growing, but the team has been responsive, transparent and supportive so far, and I appreciate the effort they are making to help tutors preserve their reviews and profiles fairly.

Heartily recommended!

An excellently designed website – very calm, easy to navigate, and with an array of high-quality tutors.

Also, the website only charges parents a small one-off fee to hire a specific tutor, rather than taking a hefty commission on each lesson (most tutoring websites add a 25% fee to the price of the actual tutor) making the tutors on this website, in all likelihood, much better value for money.

Heartily recommended! I’m very glad this website has been set up, especially after the recent closure of the Firsttutors website, which I used for years previously.

Have helped during a really difficult time ...

My review is exactly the same as someone else as they state things perfectly to express how I feel. Thank you Laura!
I am one of the many tutors that were catastrophically let down by First Tutors ghosting us for nearly three weeks before they admitted they have ceased to exist. Thank God for the internet and a forum on Reddit about what would happen to us. I personally started tutoring with First Tutors in 2010, so that's A LOT of excellent reviews that I assumed have disappeared along with First Tutors.

And then I heard about Tutorperch, who have seized the opportunity to rescue both tutors and clients, set up a functional way of joining very easily and... big drum roll... TOLD US HOW TO GET OUR DATA BACK FROM FT!!!

So far, all I can say is that they have been incredibly responsive. May tutorperch and all who sail in her thrive and continue doing what we love-which is helping students to fulfil their dreams.

Let's spread the word so that parents and tutors alike can trust Tutor perch to provide the same service as First Tutors ( except in its final days !!) without comission or fees taken from tutors . That was the best part of FT and the only reason I didn't join any of the others !!

First-class tutoring platform - very professional and easy to use.

An excellent tutoring platform with a very professional, responsive, and helpful team. Very easy to use with no hidden costs or catches. Easy to sign up for both tutors and parents/students, simple and clear messaging, and other helpful features such as DBS check badges on tutor profiles.

I have been tutoring for over 20 years and can highly recommend this platform, which I expect will quickly emerge as the industry leader!

The future for students and tutors alike

This company will be the future both for students looking for experienced, knowledgeable and accountable tutors, and tutors looking for a fair platform to advertise their services. Many long-term, established tutors are turning to this platform for continuity of service following the closure of First Tutors. This platform offers the promise to be even better on both sides of the service- and for us tutors, FT already had no comparison. I am advising all of my current clients of its existence.

An Excellent Tutoring Site

Tutorperch have been absolutely brilliant so far — they have been professional, warm and welcoming and the site looks fantastic. For a young company they are really impressive and leagues ahead of so much of the competition. It’s reassuring that tutors are properly DBS-checked too.
