I entered the ULEZ Zone on a rare visit to London. So I attempted to pay the ULEZ fee on the same day. There is no option to do a quick pay, which surely would be sensible, helpful and common sense. The only options given are to Log in, or Register an Account. So I registered an account ( after multiple attempts because it was not straightforward.) Then the instruction was to set up autopay. Which I did. The website says you have 3 days to pay. So I reasonably expected that as I had set up an account and autopay, that payment would be automatically taken. The next day I went abroad for a holiday for 2 and a half weeks. When I got home there was a letter from TFL, which was a penalty charge. Pay £90 or if not paid within 14 days, you have to pay double. If you do not pay this, you will face being pursued for more and more money. Why are we, the public, treated so shabbily by an official, public organisation? It is outrageous. I phoned the helpline to be told by a very unhelpful, unsympathetic woman, that I should have set up an account the day before I drove to London. So you cannot on the spur of the moment drive into London without being given penalty charges. I completed the appeal on my penalty charge letter, explained what had happened and waited 2 weeks for a response. Which said that on this occasion they would quash the PCN. There was no apology of course. I asked Google if was common for people to receive PCNs after they had set up an account and autopay. Google said that, yes, it is very common for people to receive PCNs. So TFL appear to be deliberately conning innocent, decent people into paying outrageous fines and taking in vast amounts of money. Why, TFL, don't you create a payment page that is clear and simple? And why has the government allowed you to get away with this?
I just followed Google maps. Driving to Wemberley. You get a letter through door a week later saying you owe £180, £90 if you pay now. So it's not £180. Not even £90 is it. It was £12.50 which I would have paid. But I didnt know. I since have changed the settings in Google. Avoid tolls. Had another charge £80 for no right turn. London what a hoot. If England make 2 billion in fines a year from cars. That could do wonders for the enviroment. Shame it doesn't. England is sustainable, by being taxed and fined to death, and the lottery. I'll pay your charge now, stick it up your ####, get everyone a latte from me xx
0 stars, staff RUDE and a big ATTITUDE, respect and politeness works both ways
The website is impossible to use. I tried for 4 hours to establish an account and when I had the site kept rejecting my number plate.
One star is one too many, it should be minus 5 stars.
Almost EVERY month they charge me on my account for a car that is NOT my car, NOT my colour and above all NOT my registration. Their reply is standard and not very sympathetic. Then I have to wait more than a month, like the second statement afterwards to get the money back and sometimes I wonder if I get it refunded as their administration/accounts are a disgrace, very difficult to work out. What are your experiences?
A simple enough attempt to pay online for a non-ULEZ car to drive to Heathrow has me going round in circles. Finally locked out because I've tried too many times to enter the CORRECT pin, password, vehicle details, place of birth, mother's maiden name, mem date. Inside leg measurement The website must have been written by a deranged person. Calling the helpline means paying for a call to someone (friendly enough but in some far off land) after hearing the familiar message 'we are experiencing unusually heavy amount of calls....'
Come on Sadiq Khan, if it wasn't you who wrote the software, PLEASE find someone who can fix it.
I have an issue with being charged for ULEZ when in fact it wasn't the same number plate. The person i dealt with was a lady named Shweta. Was extremely helpful and patient checking my ULEZ issue and then advised me how to make out a TFL claims form, which i have now completed. Credit where it's due. Thank you Shweta.
I have identified issues with my Auto Pay account that require urgent attention due to ULEZ cameras incorrectly reading my vehicle registration.
The charges applied show my vehicle registration; however, I am being billed for incorrect vehicle registrations at these locations, as clearly shown in the images, resulting in incorrect charges being applied to my Auto Pay account.
While reviewing my Auto Pay account, I discovered a 2025 charge already taken from my account, despite my vehicle being correctly registered and compliant. I also identified two further pending ULEZ charges linked to my vehicle at cameras on Hurst Road, Sidcup, and Sevenoaks Way, Orpington. In both cases, the images clearly show my vehicle, but the ANPR system recorded incorrect vehicle registrations, resulting in charges being wrongly applied to my Auto Pay account.
In my correspondence with TfL Auto Pay, I received generic responses that did not address the issue raised. I was asked to provide a V5C and a letter of conformity, despite my vehicle already being compliant and previously confirmed as such by TfL. This is irrelevant, as my dispute concerns incorrect ANPR readings and resulting charges, not vehicle compliance.
Despite repeated contact, the issue remains unresolved, and no meaningful explanation or resolution has been provided by TfL.
I would urge anyone using Auto Pay to regularly check their account and any outstanding charges, as incorrect ANPR readings at these locations may lead to wrongful billing.
While agreeing in principle with policies to reduce pollution from vehicles, the implementation should be transparent, fair and easy to access and understand for all of those who may potentially be charged. This is not the case for London's implementation of ULEZ. I have seen some unsympathetic comments from those who know about ULEZ and what to do, but they reflect only part of the potentially affected population, which includes overseas visitors. Also there is an implicit assumption in the implementation that you need a smartphone and have the wherewithal to negotiate various sites and instructions - and don't mind the invasion of data privacy for information that you give Transport for London. There is room for improvement on 1: road signage; 2: directing road users to help, eg a helpline manned by a person; 3: an understanding that ULEZ may not be familiar to some visitors, especially those from overseas; 4: visitors may need more than 2 days to work out what to do, register, compliance, set up account etc.,;5: pay per 24 hour period from entering the zone; 6: seek to help people rather than fine them for inadvertent non-compliance.
There are worse implementations, just try Oxford, and work out where and when the zones begin and end, and you can't get your payment back if you didn't need to pay it.
In Austria, you need to buy a limited period licence to drive on some of the motorways, but there is almost no signage about that requirement.
Back to ULEZ, if you are pursued for a debt, it is a civil debt, which is increased in multiples. Well, whilst some disincentives may be needed to 'encourage' driver compliance, do we want compliance enforced by debt collectors and bailiffs?
I notice that ULEZ has not responded to Trust pilot reviews and may not even read them, unlike a number of other organisations that are concerned to improve their ways of working. How then, and if at all, do the ULEZ administrators improve their system and take into account users' comments? There is a hint of arrogance in such a non-response.
Very unhappy after I had paid the ULEZ charge only to get a PCN. This is because I didn’t tick the day on the calendar that I drove in to the zone on. Very difficult to pay via the app as it blancs out the day before. I commute very rarely to London now but this has made things more difficult. I have informed my MP who will be discussing this in Parliament. What can we do if we pay the charge and still get a PCN. So it’s £102.50 to travel to London.
The team's total lack of competence. I'd never received a ticket for a prepaid van ride in a ulez zone before. This time, I received two PCNs, for a ride that was paid already for with a one single transfer. Of course, I intended to appeal, but after logging in to the website, I noticed that the next PCN had been deleted, just like the previous one. Still waiting for one more 🤦🤦🤦. The total incompetence, the total mess , and the mess in the system exposed me to unnecessary stress and anxiety.
I went into London and spent two hours trying to pay the £12.50 charge that evening. I finally got one receipt via text on my phone but latter discovered they had taken the payment twice. You cannot get your money back and the the Chat on TFL sends you to a web site called Expert Squad this company is a subscription company that will take every penny out of your account . It is owned by another company TSFF Holdings Ltd and is based in Cypress. The banks should block them and the Financial Ombudsman should investigate them for corruption and being listed on a government web site.
Absolute Daylight Robbery . This Is Financial Fraud . War on the Poor . A War on the drivers who are signed up to it . As far as i am concerned London has fallen to Islam and i shall not be funding terrorism in anyway . my whole yearly earnign have basically been taxed by this system i shall not take part in funding this fraud any longer . the air is fine . Sadiq Kahn is a criminal
Paying the ULEZ charge.
I visited London and following my arrival home attempted to pay the day’s ULEZ charge, having previously registered my vehicle and set up a credit card for payment. However, regardless of trying several times to make payment, whenever I chose a zone, as requested (I selected ULEZ), I was immediately presented with a map of the ULEZ and then asked for the address visited. However, despite providing this, there was no way to proceed. Regardless of whatever approach I tried using other on-line payment options I ended up with the above map and still unable to proceed.
I then gave up on-line and decided to pay by phone. The first problem was when I gave my registration number, I was then asked to provide the colour and make of vehicle, the example given was ‘blue Ford’. Accordingly, I said ‘grey Honda’ which resulted in this not apparently matching their records. I then tried ‘Honda Grey’ with the same result. From desperation I then tried ‘Grey Honda CRV’ which was accepted! The website does not request the model, causing both delay and irritation.
Once I was eventually able to make payment, I received two confirmatory texts one minute apart but with the same receipt number and had to check with my Credit Card provider to ensure only one charge had been made.
Both systems result in a user spending significant time simply trying to make payment. Additionally, in travelling from Hampshire to Beckenham, Surrey, no signs were seen indicating that I was entering the ULEZ.
While I have no issues with the concept of ULEZ, the associated online system appears to be unuseable and the telephone payment system is clearly inaccurate and poorly designed, both systems could easily result in the issue of a PCN!
In my opinion, the user interface of both systems, appear to have been poorly specified and in need of urgent re-specification, analysis and amending to make them user friendly and as such provide users with easy ways to pay the charges.
As part of a ‘public’ service, in my opinion, in their current form both payment systems are a disgrace.
This is a SCAM website. Not only do they charge the £5 extra, they send a confirmation email which has spelling mistakes in it, and most importantly they do NOT actually pay the money to tfl, so your car is not covered to drive within the ULEZ area and you will incur a penalty charge. AVOID.
This is a scam website that charges you a £5 'admin' fee to pay the London Ulez charge on your behalf.
Avoid it.
