The Vertu team got off to a poor start. A series of miscommunications between several parties, the left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing, or had agreed to do.
In the main, however, once the dots were joined, they provided a good, customer focused experience.
The same cannot be said of Volvo, who have exceeded themselves in developing a curiously remote and impersonal buying experience, centered entirely on a web based transaction.
It's like a Tesco shop. Select what you want, from the list they provide, we they deliver it. Like buying a commodity, rather than a premium product.
You pop into the dealership merely to place the order. Having selected the model with the, it has to be said, limited options, the only material provided by Volvo to take home and ponder is three sheets of photocopied paper confirming the spec and the cost.
No brochure, no sales material, no images to salivate over. It's a barren and empty experience.
The next day Volvo sent a questionnaire asking how the buying experience went. They ask if we'd like to be contacted to share views. We say that we would. And hear nothing further from Volvo.
Nothing kills credibility more than a company inviting responses, and then not following them up.
We begin to feel less than positive about Volvo as a whole.
It has sold its soul to the devil in technology, and at the same time killed all interaction with its customers.
Ten days before due date, and Volvo advise a delay in delivery. Another nail in their coffin.
Vertu were gushing in their apology. But in the face of the Volvo machine, their impotence to provide any compensation was palpable. Their role now largely relegated to distributors and product handlers.
Volvo's aim is clearly to rid themselves of face to face interaction with dealerships from the buying process, automate the whole and strip away any costly and distracting personal input. The future is showrooms and perhaps service stations, but not dealerships. And that does not augur well for customers.
In another example of an overly remote and technologically driven vision, comes an idea clearly originated by the finance department at head office. No longer does Volvo provide a handbook.
The only way to check anything at all, is to sit in the car and scroll through the information screen.
There is nothing much that can beat the practical inconvenience of such an initiative for the customer.
But hey, it's a money saver.
Volvo have forgotten that when it comes to capital purchases, people like to buy from people rather than from machines, and they like interaction and involvement. Nothing it truer when it comes to a major purchase from a leading brand. People provide nuance, flexibility, information to take home and muse over.
On the handover, Vertu were immensely professional, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. But they stand out as strikingly unaligned to the brand they represent.
We bought our Volvo in the face of strong and likeable competition from a leading motor brand, not because we felt warm towards the Volvo company, but despite our lack of emotion to it. We bought a Volvo because, on balance we preferred the car, but we have ended up feeling very non plused towards the brand.
Volvo have managed to erase all the warmth, customer focus and Scandinavian attention that we once knew them for.
Such a pity.

I recently purchased a Volvo XC90 from Vertu Volvo and had a very positive experience throughout. A special thanks to Guy, and also Ross the who were excellent from start to finish.
Guy was extremely helpful and I appreciated his friendly and unpushy approach. He gave me plenty of time to look around, answered all of my questions honestly, and made the whole process feel straightforward and pressure-free. It was refreshing to deal with someone who genuinely wanted to help rather than simply make a sale.
The purchase was handled professionally, communication was clear throughout, and I'm delighted with my XC90. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Vertu Volvo to anyone looking for a hassle-free car-buying experience.
Thank you, Guy, and the team!

I walked into Yeovil Vertu Motors and was introduced to Kerion Flack.
Kerion spent a long time discussing with me benefits of purchasing a Land Rover discovery or a defender.
We came to the conclusion a defender would be more suited to my use
I was most impressed with Kieron’s knowledge of the cars.
He gave me the confidence to go ahead a purchase a car even though I had not driven a defender before.
I have been very happy with the car it is a super drive.
