Utterly disgusting thieves !! Total scam... should be prosecuted !! I paid for hundreds of map tiles. All gone... Unbelievable !!

So disappointed that viewranger has stopped. I absolutely loved using it. It made sense to me and I enjoyed using it to discover new places and walks with footpaths. I saved lots of the routes i planned. I am so frustrated with the other apps to choose from. Hopefully someone will create something as good as viewranger or even better some time soon. Grrrrrr!!!!

A Rolls-Royce to a Reliant Robin
I too spent 100's of GBP on over 60 maps covering the entire GB mainland, walking and photography are my two main hobbies, but don't always want to carry around heavy SLR kit so I found an ideal phone in the Samsung K zoom, unfortunately it runs on android 4.4.2, and the Outdooractive app will not run on anything before android 5, I belive, so I thought I'd lost everything, anyway after a little research, it turns out there is a work around, I know Viewranger will never be updated, but at least it's up and running again.
I did get Outdooractive working on a tablet, but it is truly awfull, I would advise anyone to just buy a map with a digital download.
I used the free version of this map for…
I used the free version of this map for a few years - which is probably why they gave up the ghost! I mean you can't give away too much stuff for free.
Anyway, it was good as a basic map for my local area as it had footpaths on it. BUT so much lacking on free ver compared to OS maps - which you pay for. I am glad free VR has gone so now I can have the full OS experience.
Viewranger Hero's to Zero's!
Rated the Viewranger App as 5 stars when I started out using it in 2013. Viewranger has sold out without bothering to contact me, so I presume without contacting other users. The "new" owners of the many tiles paid to Viewranger by me now wish to impose advertising use of my data for their gain.
Viewranger, no stars to you now, very poor show.
Merger with Outdooractive
Like other reviewers, I'm very disappointed that Viewranger has merged or been taken over. I had several hundred routes stored on the app (which was excellent) and only 3 of these have been transferred after I linked my account to Outdooractive. This could possibly have been sorted out via support, but I now find that all the embedded Viewranger routes on my website andrewswalks.co.uk have to be amended manually. I don't have time for this, nor do I like the cluttered interface, so in future will be using the new OS online app and have removed all my embedded Viewranger routes. A great shame as I put a lot of effort into sharing my routes.
Thieves
Thieves - you have stolen all the maps which I paid for. You have sold out to an inferior product and stuck a finger up to all your loyal users. I'm disgusted that you could do this.
terrible treatment of loyal users by Viewfinder
I love viewranger and have used it for years. I have bought tiles from OS Ireland covering all the parts of Ireland where I walk. under the proposed merger of viewranger with outdoor active I will loose all of the map tiles which I already bought (which has to be theft!) and will be required to pay €30 per annum to access the maps which I already own and paid for. Plus at the moment outdoor active has no access to Irish maps. I can not believe that loyal customers of viewfinder are being treated in such a shoddy and dishonest way. This is a terrible way to treat loyal users.
Have totally wrecked service
Have totally wrecked service for longtime loyal users of a reliable app that was great tool for safer UK hillwalks. They have stopped availabilty of UK OS map subscriptions & dumped users onto Outdoor Active. Lost paid for map tiles, vague promises of ‘discount’ and ‘future improvements’. Lost postcode lookup, Cluttered in UI with no options to customise. The new OA they’ve forced us to use has blurred map images , less detail on main overview of UK, easy to accidentally delete maps & points with no undo and confusing in switching out of potentially safety critical offline modes accidentally. Pushed users onto untrusted in app crash reliability and battery use on walks. Viewranger support used to be excellent - Alternative OA has no way to submit a support question - ‘button’ does not click. Absolutely disgusting that somthing that search & rescue teams have been using as a backup too has been degraded in this way for the corporate business ‘improvements’. Despite contacting them and asking if it is possible for them to reinstate Viewranger functionality, the answer was no. They are not listening to their users. Appalling.
Update to my last review on…
Update to my last review on Outdooractive. I tried to download a GPX file of the Spanish TET and only half of it appears. Enquiries to the TET suggest that this is a problem with Outdooractive and iPhones as other motorcyclists have experienced the same problem and enquiries to Outdooractive meet a brick wall. They suggested I try another mapping app.

Used this app for years and Was excellent Untill recently when the guys sold out to Outdoors and VR users have to migrate to the new site to use OS maps, I have found the new site rubbish, not user friendly unlike VR and GPS dropping out and giving unreliable fix, have subscribed to Pro on the new site but will be cancelling before the free trial is up, will be using VR untill it stops working but will have to use OS for nap detail..... VIEWRANGER guys what where you thinking?????
ViewRanger great ..
ViewRanger great ... but now instructed to merge with Outdooractive on the app .. did so and then planned a route . Opened route to start and asked for bank details for mao download . It stated NO money would be taken , they just required stating it was
For validation . Inputted card detail and then received message from my bank stating it’s blocked a fraudulent activity as they tried to take out £39 .... can’t contact anyone to talk about this .. luckily no money taken .. be careful !!
Update : emailed Outdooractive and received an email back in German ... non the wiser 🙄
ViewRanger best walking app ever
ViewRanger was my first walking app. I searched a long time and found this one to my liking. It takes a little figuring out, but it works like a dream. And it's versitile. Tracking, GPX, Plotting etc. In an earlier review a customer stated that ViewRanger became Outdoor Active. The fact is that the two of them work together. And in fact it is cheaper. Because when you buy the pro version of ViewRanger (€10,- in Holland for a year), you get the Outdoor Active for free. The support is even greater. I spoke with Mike from ViewRanger Support with a question about sharing. within 10 minutes I had the correct answer. Then again on the next day Sunday (again with Mike) because of a thing I did wrong accidently. He corrected is in 5 minutes. There are some REALLY! minor things tho. You can't pay with iDeal (I live in Holland and I don't have a creditcard or use PayPall) and the app isn't translated in Dutch. Other than that nothing wrong with it. So ViewRanger will be the app for me from now on. Love it.
Warning. Viewranger is not what it was.
Viewranger has been my goto app for walking and just finding out where you are. Brilliantly designed and well supported. Now suddenly it seems to have become Outdooractive, an app which somehow contrived to extract £38 from my credit card under the name funfilmshop despite saying it was free to use. Thankfully Mastercard flagged it as a fraudulent transaction and I was able to back out.
Fantastic walking app
This app is so good I want to give it 10 stars! The free version allows you to walk/cycle wherever you want, safe in the knowledge that you can't get lost due to the built-in GPS system. It has lots of features, it's easy to use and doesn't use up your smart phone battery. It's transformed my walking career. I'm now happy to wonder the countryside, knowing I can explore without fear. No more looking at paper maps wondering where I am. The support centre is brilliant as well, responding to questions almost before I've asked them!
Just great
Have been with them since the early days and recommend them to all my friends...perhaps O2 and BT could get advice from them about 'how to treat your customers'
