Completely over priced for membership

The trainers that take the classes are great. However the overall service of the gym is terrible considering the overpriced membership fee. The membership keeps going up, yet the facilities aren't always in working order and often take a while to be fixed. The gym has very limited attachments for the cable machines and although this has been reported and i was told the attachments are on order, it's still not sorted months later. The aircon in the main studio hasn't been working for months, which is disgusting considering it's a gym! It's becoming impossible to book a space on some classes as they're getting fully booked before 7am on the day the bookings open. The jacuzzi is often not working, and there's many occasions where the gym reception don't answer the phones. A couple of the reception staff are very unfriendly and give the impression they cant be bothered to be there. I wouldn't be writing this review if the prices were lower as I'd take the view as 'you get what you pay for', but the prices charged are a complete rip off for the facilities and service you get.

Wonderful Gym

I have been a member of the gym for nearly 2 years. It is a fabulous gym with a great pool and up to date equipment. The staff are fabulous. In particular Tracey who is an absolute delight and keeps the changing rooms and pool area pristine. It is rare these days to come across someone who finds the right balance between friendly, professional and genuinely seems to love her job and workplace. Thank you Tracey!!

Nothing like what it used to be

I today sadly cancelled my membership after more than 20 years,Not really happy that i have to give three months notice as my original contract i signed all those years ago stated i could leave after one year by giving one months notice.
I am a member of the Walsall club and also use Dudley occasionally and i find the same issues in both venues.
My main reason for leaving is not the facilities or the staff who have always been friendly, its the clientele which has dramatically changed over the period. A growing number of the members have no respect for the facilities or the staff and act in a disgusting manner,
These are just a small few of the experiences i have seen over the past few months, men standing in the communal showers brushing their teeth while showering and spitting flem and toothpaste all over the shower floor,
Every visit i can guarantee there will be men clearing their throat in the showers and spitting on the floor (When i first joined there was a sign stating any member doing this would be banned),Last week there was a man cutting his toe nails in the shower.
In the pool they have a fast lane and a slow lane for swimmers but this is totally ignored and not enforced,
Many people now just get out of sauna and straight into either pool of jacuzzi without showering and they are obviously covered is sweat,
I have noticed that so many familiar members from the past have now left which is sad, and in all honesty i things will only get worse.

I am writing to village gym formally raise a…

I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding my recent experience at Village Gym Hyde, which I found extremely disappointing and unacceptable.

I have been a loyal member of Village Gym for over 15 years and currently hold an off-peak membership. When I attended the Hyde gym recently while fasting, I was informed that my monthly fee has increased to £47. This increase was particularly frustrating given that key facilities, including the sauna and steam room, were not available. This is not the first time these facilities have been out of service, yet on no previous occasion have members been offered any form of refund or discount.

I was advised by a staff member at Hyde that I could instead use Cheadle or Ashton-under-Lyne gyms. I have done this previously when Hyde facilities were unavailable, so I expected no issues. However, when I arrived at the alternative gym, I was told that no email or authorisation had been received from Hyde. I was then informed that I would need to pay £5 to access the gym.

I explained that I should not be required to pay an additional fee, as I was only attending due to the lack of facilities at my home gym. Despite this, access was refused. The manager on duty stated that I was not allowed to enter and declined my request to contact the Hyde or Ashton gym to clarify the situation. I was told to “go somewhere else,” which I found extremely unprofessional and disrespectful.

I then returned to Hyde/Dukinfield, where a member of staff apologised but stated that an email had supposedly been sent. Unfortunately, this email clearly had not been received by the other gym, resulting in unnecessary embarrassment, inconvenience, and stress.

Overall, the lack of communication, inconsistent information, and poor staff attitude across locations is absolutely unacceptable—especially for long-standing members. Experiences like this help explain the consistently poor public reviews and star ratings that Village Gym currently receives.

I am requesting:
• A clear explanation of why members are charged full fees when facilities are unavailable
• Clarification on inter-gym access policies
• Improved staff communication and training
• Consideration of compensation or refund for this experience

I expect this matter to be taken seriously and addressed promptly.

Paying £85 for my membership and…

Paying £85 for my membership and desperately trying to downgrade due to them not having Pilates beds to be able to get onto classes been waiting since October for them to arrive apparently. Contacted 19 times now through emails and head office, member retention, the manager seems to be unable to be located for st David’s. Even going into the club non of the staff are allowed to talk about membership and pat? Does memberships but doesn’t like to be bothered when on shift apparently. All very bizarre. Now wanting to cancel full membership as no one can assist in the club either. So reading all these other reviews it’s a common thing so save yourself the ag and go somewhere that has someone you can discuss memberships with when your needing to change things not just hounding you relentlessly to upgrade or join.

Nice gym, crap company

The gym itself was nicely facilitated and well stocked and it was a pleasant place to visit. But the company as a whole was a big scam, I signed up for 3 months but it became a rolling contract and when I went to cancel my membership the my account section of their website just doesn't work and hasn't for months. There are no sign posts to help with this enquiry even though they will tell you otherwise and they hit you with a 90 day cancellation clause. AVOID! Not to mention raising the price and giving you no way to cancel either is quite telling of how they feel about customer service. I will never join them again!

Stay clear !

Used Village gym in Dudley . Often facilities not work as it should . I tried to get access to my portal over the year I staid there but no luck .

Lots of promises when I sign up but nothing was fulfilled. Gifts were promised, day passes for friends and family nothing came thru .

Stay clear of this establishment. They get you to sign on and keep up hostage with your membership as service is so bad to anything other then collecting money for your account.

Started November 24 . Left to day after very disappointing year .

Big scam !!

WORST EXPERIENCE at COVENTRY Village Gym

My experience with Village Gym Coventry has been deeply disappointing, particularly around UNDISCLOSED and UNLAWFUL FEES.

When I purchased my membership, I was clearly assured of a refund within the cooling off period, with no mention of deductions. Only after submitting my cancellation was I informed of an undisclosed fee, something the sales manager even admitted she had never heard of.

Over the following months, despite raising legitimate concerns supported by a legal advisor, the Village Gym Coventry Manager Matthew has avoided providing clarity on their regulatory or ADR obligations and failed to resolve the situation matter amicably.

The lack of transparency, accountability and willingness to engage constructively has left me with serious concerns about how Village Gym conducts its business.

Update: Chargeback through (BANK) successful, Village no where to be seen!

Village Gym is making it difficult to cancel my membership

All I want to do is give 90 days notice on my membership. How hard can this be? I have emailed member services and you get a automated email that says the email address is not priority and refers you to the app. I have looked on the mobile app and there is nothing in subscriptions to say about canceling or amending a subscription. This is very sneaky, making it difficult to cancel a subscription is not ethical business. I have been here before a number of years ago and I thought business ethics had improved. It looks like I will have to use this negative review as my 90 days notice as a date stamp. Once my email notification has been accepted, as of todays date, then I may review my experience in a different light.

I will not be renewing my membership…

I will not be renewing my membership for Village Gym Maidstone. At the time of signing up, the way it was explained to me everything sounded like a dream but unfortunately it has not lived up to its expectation. Some of the benefits explained to me at sign up were only partially true. Plus lack of cleanliness, rude staff, rising prices, limited parking and general lack of communication means it’s simply not worth my time. The classes and instructors are absolutely amazing and this is what made me stay for a relatively long time but I feel I can get better value (and less stress) from a Pilates studio

Totally disgusting behaviour

Totally disgusting behaviour. I bought a membership, I had to buy for my carer also. I then suffered heart failure. They took 3 months payment for us both. We have never even set foot in the gym or hotel. I am not able to use it at all. Now they have set a bike debt collection agency ARC to hound me and my carer. He never signed up. They are using intimidation and bullying. They want a full year for us both. Despite medical evidence!!!!!
It will not be long before this company is responsible for serious harm to someone!
If you are in any way DISABLED, Sick. AVOID LIKE PLAGUE. THEY ARE BULLIES AND THUGS.

The Bristol Village Gym is great…

The Bristol Village Gym is generally really good value with excellent facilities - I’m really sad to see some of the complaints on here.

I can’t speak for other locations but the Bristol one has great facilities and classes (special shout out to Dylan’s epic Burn HIIT and Laura’s beautiful Body Balance), with a lovely 20m pool and spa area including sauna, steam room, sauna, jacuzzi and ice bath.

It is generally pretty clean (could improve at busy times) and I’ve never yet met a rude or unhelpful team member there - they are all really lovely. The changing rooms are spacious and comfortable and the gym floor itself is very well equipped. The PTs are fantastic too.

If you do have to take a break (for example for health reasons), or want to switch to off peak, they are very understanding, though obviously have terms around this so it’s up to the member to communicate this in advance.

My only quibble is members repeatedly hogging the jacuzzi and never being asked to vacate.

I’ve been a member at the Village Hotel…

I’ve been a member at the Village Hotel Gym in Walsall for a while now, and I have to say that John is one of the standout members of staff there. From the moment you walk in, he’s always welcoming, friendly, and genuinely happy to help. Whether it’s offering advice on equipment, helping with technique, or just creating a positive atmosphere, John consistently goes above and beyond.
What really sets him apart is how attentive and knowledgeable he is. He takes the time to understand what you’re working toward and gives practical, achievable guidance without ever being pushy. His encouragement makes a huge difference, especially on days when motivation is low.
The gym itself is great, but staff like John are what make the experience exceptional. His professionalism, energy, and willingness to support members truly elevate the place. Highly recommend speaking to him if you need help or just want a friendly face around the gym
