If you love Minecraft, but always wished it was "more", you will likely love this!

This is like a mash-up of Minecraft meets Alone (wilderness survival).

It's quite tough, but beautiful and extremely satisfying!

A cute little cottage core farming and crafting game, in a post-post-apocalyptic world filled with existential horror monsters. Lots of fun for the whole family!

The game is shit and steals your banking info

Tedious and slow progression in the name of realism and difficulty, but it isn't even realistic or difficult, it's just boring and a waste of time. The artistic choice doesn't help the realism argument either, it looks kinda goofy for a "realistic survival experience". And the combat is horrible.

Disappointing that the company has decided to take such a defensive action for a mod creator-now-part-of-the-team, obfuscating numbers and trying to brush the incident under the rug and more or less telling the community as a whole 'Don't like how we're defending a malicious and vindictive mod? Take your money and leave' show how little we matter to them as a whole.

Check the reddit and examine how they've tried sweeping it under a megathread, where all topics go to perish, and sort by new, there will be those stating that the numbers don't add up in terms of the reports and even the small percentages are very much alarming. With the ultimate decision being to keep the mod creator on their team.

A beyond disappointing turn for an otherwise fun game, with trust broken and no intent to repair it.

The company has no respect for the people paying them. After false warning, favoritism, and allowing a developer to knowingly add malware to the game its become clear they can't be trusted. The reasonings that I have heard are all bullshit aswell. The moment you are making something available to someone to use you are responsible for anything that goes wrong. Such as adding malware and crashing peoples computers. Wasting time, money, and possible hardware. In times where gaming has become and expensive luxury consciously allowing customers computers to be crashed by an employee is so unforgivable. I truely hope this company crashes and burns. A good idea doesn't excuse bad behavior.

As someone who has grown up playing all sorts of survival games with my best friends for nearly 16 years, I must say this is downright one of the best ones I have ever played. There is just so much right about this game that I can't just fit it into a simple review. It has practically everything that my friends and I wished for as kids while we were stuck playing things like Minecraft, Total Miner Forge, Castle Miner Z, etc. The level of detail put into every mechanic just shows how much the developers truly love this passion project, which you simply don't see anymore in most games. Whenever I think that I've seen everything you can do in this game, I'm just always surprised by another game element that I wouldn't have ever dreamed of being able to do in one of these craft-likes. And not only that, but it's just a gorgeous game that runs as smoothly as butter, even with the highest graphics settings, as it has been greatly optimized. It has completely ruined Minecraft for me, as not only does Minecraft run like absolute shite on a high-end computer, but neither the base game nor any mod pack can hold a candle to the amount of thought and depth that has been put into Vintage Story. Every Minecraft modpack I've played just feels empty and directionless, trying to fix an old, outdated game by adding things such as a million new ugly armor sets or a million new items and crafting stations that don't even match the art style or pixel count that Minecraft follows. Popular mods like GregTech are just an absolute eyesore, and it feels like they're just trying to add a million things just for the sake of saying that there are thousands of hours of content to be played. Yet with Vintage Story, they completely deconstructed the entire concept of a craft-like game and have been rebuilding it from the ground up for the past 10 years. There is purpose behind every mechanic, a real tactile feel to everything you make, and a sense of accomplishment for even the most mundane of tasks completed.

The only thing I will say is that I am disappointed in how they have handled the most recent controversy regarding the malware that one of the developers put into one of the mods. Judging by the track record for the past decade, I believe the developers are just making a severe lapse in judgment in how they have handled this and will ultimately do what is right in the end. I don't think a situation like this should de-credit all the work and love that has been put into this game. We should continue to push back and point out how the decisions they made were wrong, while continuing to push this game for others to play and support it because it is truly special, and I know the developers truly care.

One of the devs put malware in a community mod before being hired. upon finding out the Main devs have done nothing but downplay and cover for this bad actor. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link this company wants to be represented by untrustworthy code and its sketchy authors.

As a game that is only available on its own site, you have no protection or recourse against the company aside from sueing them if they were to do something shady, like putting malware onto your computer.
sadly enough the development team has decided to hire someone who writes malware, and after being made aware of this, Anego still decided to side with the author of malware alongside insulting their playerbase and sillencing discussion on this topic.

Only buy this game if you are interested in decompilng code and looking for malware.

Dev got caught inserting malware, company swept it under the rug. Absolutely no trust remains in the development team. Moderators on both the Reddit and Discord are deleting any complaints about the studio.

Its fun yet challenging
The devs are very Close to the Community and very friendly
Some Features arent quite there yet Like Combat but the Game IS still early Access
I got my bang for my buck even after playing for about a year and the devs Deliver Updates quite often
4/5 will Vintage again

Basically greg tech, if you enjoy those types of modpacks in Minecraft you'll like this, but there's really no need to purchase if you have Minecraft

Honestly this is a great game.
I have played 40 hours so far on a single world and have been enjoying it quite a lot, and I believe this is the best money I spent on a videogame in a long while (RimWorld being the last one)!
Here is a quick breakdown of my world in the game so far:
Started the game, created a mud hut in a haunted area and lost my mind. After understanding this game mechanic I moved to great plains, where I started to farm near a lake. I built a wooden hut, and slowly started to prepare for winter with the food supplies, as well as looking for copper, tin and finally iron to improve my tools. Currently coming to the close of the winter, and I'm looking to create a windmill to help me process the metals I acquired.

Overall the game gives a very relaxing experience, with a challenge if you're looking for it! The easy mod application is great as well!

Reset my password on the game to only be told I can;t log in with my new password and have to wait 24hrs to try again...made a support ticket hours ago and still not be answered...the games overhyped don't believe the hype! worth £5 not £20

After playing the game I can say I enjoy it all though it is a challenging experience it’s in a good way. It really challenges you with a hardcore survival experience that gives many hours of gameplay. I was most impressed with the price of $20 is great considering how much gameplay it offers. I see lots of potential I hope the developers continue to update the game frequently.

IMO Best survival game out there. Hands down. If you enjoy in-depth systems based in reality, this game may be for you. If you also like a little horror in your cozy, this could be for you.

It has a very satisfying game loop for gamers who are all about the journey and not necessarily the destination. It's a slow burn, but super rewarding.

Sandbox survival with a hard emphasis on survival. I enjoy how the game evolves from early game, when you play very differently versus mid game, versus end game. Early game focuses on daily treks into the wilderness to get supplies, food and to find useful resources. Whereas the mid game tends to focus on expanding your skill lines and upgrading tools.

And, for me, the fact that this is released by a small independent studio is a big deal. In this day and age of cookie cutter AAA games being cranked out as quickly as possible with the number one motive being profit, it is so refreshing to play a game where you can feel the love in every little pixel.

I am shocked that it only had a 3.3 review on this. This game is worth way more than that. I've been playing it for over a year now and have purchased multiple copies for friends.

Best damn $20 game I've ever played. Hell, it outshines most $40 games I've played

A fantastic video-game being tainted with distrust by diverting additional resources such as new hires and funding to another project no-one asked for, instead of keeping it for what people are paying to fund and support. The staff acknowledge the concerns, but choose to continue to disrespect the community by utilizing the funds that these people supplied toward Vintage Story, for an unknown project unrelated to what the money was given toward in the first place. This is written on behalf of several server members and ourselves.

We paid to support Vintage Story and only Vintage Story.

Our reviews stands as it was written, we buy the game to fund the Vintage Story project and its future development as did many others. We are disinterested in what other companies did or do. We care more about what you did and do, and using the money for one project toward another has us, like others have said on your own site and forums as well, concerned for the future development of the game. We understand based on your responses that you do not care, you make that very clear, but as fans of this particular game, we do and we are vocal that we want to see long-term support for Vintage Story and would rather see our funding of the game be used toward this specific game. It would be terrible for funding for specifically Vintage Story to be squandered and have less of that funding for the future of Vintage Story, leading to ceased development and updates sooner than it could have been due to using the funds elsewhere. This is a valid concern we express as well as others have and we stand by it.

Edit September 2026: And now further distrust due to the Maltiez situation.

Fantastic game and definitely worth it for the price. Played it with a group of friends and we were all hooked for weeks. Really immersive and challenging which is what we were looking for. The mods available and ease of installing them while hosting a dedicated server was also a huge bonus

Vintage story is in total a really good game, that offers a more challenging experience than Minecraft. It really is like minecraft but a lot harder, but in a good way for the most part.

The two places this game really sucs at is Combat and the respawn mecanic.

The combat honestly feels like a aftertought. It's stiff, booring and really, REALLY tilted in the favour of the enemies. Wolfes can kill you in two attacks. some enemies can one hit you even if you are wearing full suits of full iron plate armour. (Default settings).

And the respawn mecanic is horrible. You die, you spawn back at were the "server" spawn location is. You can temporarly move it with Temporal gears but those are rare and only lasts for about 10 deaths. The mecanic Minecraft have is significantly better. Because as it is right now with the respawn mecanic it feels like exploring is EXTREMELY unencuraged. Because you can spend houers walking in one direction looking for a nice place to set up your base at or find new resourses, just to be killed and be forced to walk aaaaalllllll the way back. It gets really old really fast.

The soft respawn with beds like MC have is a significantly better and less frustrating mecanic, that these devs apparently are alergic to.

I do reccomend this game, but ONLY if you host your own server or game, and have full access to the settings, because the default settings is out right sh*t, and needs quite a lot of tweeking.
