Terrible

Hi, I recently had building renovations done to my property and thought it might help others if I share with you all my experience.

To put it politely, it was hell!

The plan was to join the main property to an adjacent annex via a glass link, as well as open up the dining room to create a kitchen/diner area.

We did our research, found a company that was doing a job at the time near us, checked out their website (impressive and promising), and from the quality of the external stonework, liked what we saw.

To cut a long story short, it was agreed it would take 6 to 8 weeks to complete and that they would take care of all the different aspects of the renovation themselves.... It took 4 and a half months – that's for starters.

The main builder showed up only a couple of times to come and check the work through this 4-and-a-half-month period.

His labourers arrived never knowing what to do next (they would receive a text the night before telling them which job to attend in the morning) and surprise, surprise, they could not get hold of their boss. They would disappear for days or weeks on end whilst working on other people's jobs and believe it or not, were impossible to get hold of unless repeatedly hounded.

The constant excuses and lies were demoralising.

We were promised a Portaloo – that never materialised.

None of the existing kitchen units and flooring were covered, resulting in them being damaged to a degree that new flooring had to be laid. Once the builders had left we had to hire a separate professional kitchen installer to replace the old kitchen tops and units with new ones.

An additional £4K of new extra kitchen units were “installed” (if you can call it that way) where not even ONE unit meets the wall – I was told that it was an old property and that the walls weren’t straight. I’ll spare you the description of how the cupboard doors were hung.

We got a nice big dent on our freestanding upright freezer and when I showed this to the main builder, his one and only response was “what do you want me to do about it?” (I shall NEVER forget those words).

Building Control was never applied for – I only found out when I went to speak to Citizen’s Advice Bureau, and they mentioned it - (yes, I was so desperate, I went and sought help at CAB). It has taken me just short of a year to finally get hold of a Building Control Certificate.

We gave them several attempts at putting things right, but even then the results were unacceptable and by then we had totally lost trust in them and had had enough. If I could I would add photos of their work (you can see them on google review).

As stated, this is purely based on my personal experience with this firm – if, on reading this review you decide to consider them for any works you may be planning, I sincerely hope you have a better experience.
