Poor customer service

Asked for product dimensions, was told warehouse team would get back to me which they still haven’t. Ordered bird bath anyway which arrived scratched, dented and is slanted when fully assembled. Packaging was damaged too. Emailed customer service that they will arrange a swapped item. No contact since then it is taking too long. Today I went on to the website to leave a review of the product, which has been removed from the website.

Update: 100% Refund offered

Hagley Centre

Hagley Centre. My Wife wasn't feeling too well and wanted a cold drink quickly. After a short time queuing in restaurant to purchase one, she was told she couldn't have it as it was "table service only". Seriously? Thanks for that.
Went to Cherry Lane for some customer service instead.

Dear Mark,

I'm very sorry to hear that your visit to the cafe didn't go well. My sincere apologies for our staff not having served you a cold take-out drink on your visit. We do indeed sell take-out drinks but do not have tills at the coffee preparation area should you have tried purchasing it there. Unsure if you had mentioned the urgency of the drink for your unwell wife as we would have done everything possible to have hurried up the whole process. I truly hope your wife is feeling better now.

The cafe team have been informed and will be making improvements to our service.
If you need to discuss this unfortunate event further, please do get in touch with me at the cafe.

Kindest regards,

Unreliable online service.

Ordered a table. 1-2 days stated delivery time. Nothing arrived. Emailed customer services, took four days to reply. Told me the package was damaged in transit, did I want a replacement. I replied immediately, is it in stock. Next day the damaged table arrived, ripped packaging with bits falling out. Phoned and queried this, no apology, so I cancelled and asked for package to be picked up. Delivery company did not turn up on stated day. So the ripped, damaged package is still sitting on my drive over the weekend. All they said was that they were ‘very busy’. Aren’t garden centres always busy in the spring? If you are that busy, don’t say delivery in 1-2 days.

Dear Christian,

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent table order. I'm truly sorry for the frustrating experience you've had with the delivery, the damaged item, and the collection process. This is certainly not the service we aim for.

Our records show the collection with DX was scheduled for May 23rd. We immediately chased DX when it didn't happen, as this was a courier issue we worked to resolve. Our dispatch team now confirms the item has been collected. We sincerely apologise that this took longer than it should have and that you were left with the package over the weekend.

We value your business. If the collection is now complete to your satisfaction, we would be grateful if you might consider updating your review.

Kind regards,

Sarah

avoid purchase from Webbs

I've purchased a more than £600 garden furniture set in mid April, after chasing, they arrange a delivery company to deliver a product in early May, however, I waited for another week, no further update from delivery company, after a week chasing, the delivery company delivered me the table with two damaged chairs, while another two chairs were missing. After another week's communication with Webbs, I received the four chairs this morning, but while I unpacked them, I found they're not in the same set. Different in height and pattern. And two of the chairs are scratched. Since purchase from Webbs, it seems to be a never ending process of negotiations, chasing, waiting for their reply, and waiting for delivery. The whole purchase process took me more than a month, but still pending their reply at the moment. Now I keep 6 chairs in my small garden pending for their solution. Better avoid purchase from Webbs. So tiring.

Don't trust the delivery times

Don't trust the delivery times on the website.
Ordered two pieces of furniture.
2-3 working days on the the page.
3-10 working days when you click "Pallet delivery".
1-2 working days in the checkout.
7-14 working days in the confirmation email - after you've paid obviously.
8 days in and I've still not heard anything, and the order is still "Ready to be processed".

Dear Liam,

Your order was placed on Wednesday 7th May and despatched by us on Friday 9th May via PGS. The courier told us that they hadn't been able to make contact with you to arrange your delivery date -although we can see from communications that you disputed that you had received any calls from them. We can see the status has changed this morning and it is now booked in with you - so I do hope that this delivery is now successful and we apologise for the issues you have had dealing with them.

We also apologise that our messaging has been confusing. There is an automated 'furniture' delivery message on our emails which does not apply to this product as it refers to dining sets only. We have reviewed and updated our messaging to clarify it refers to dining sets only.

Best wishes,
Sarah

We visit the Wychbold great garden centre with a fantastic restaurant with exceptional staff

We visit the Wychbold garden centre weekly. You can have a hassle free leisurely browse around the store that sells everything to do with gardening along with housewares, garden furniture, pet supplies, excellent food department which includes a cheese department, butchers, bakery and fantastic confectionery to name a few. But our trip to Webb’s is never complete without a visit to the fabulous restaurant for either coffee and cake or hot food off the extensive menu, great atmosphere and the staff are just fantastic, we could name names regarding professionalism, efficiency, but I’d be here all day writing this review, they are all wonderful people, fun but professional and really make you wanting to return for another visit.. Many thanks to you all from Andy and Ian..(big jugs of cream please) lol xx

Outstanding quality

Ordered the Altico Leona water feature after seeing it in my local garden centre, however it was sold out there, so having checked online Webbs were the most competitive with free delivery, (although most places were out of stock). Delivery was very quick. The driver was lovely and very helpful. I’ve been looking for a water feature for a couple of years and I am very pleased with it.

I went yesterday to the Cheltenham…

I went yesterday to the Cheltenham store. Extremely disappointed that I could not take my small puppy into the cafe' for a cold drink on one of the hottest days of the year. I have never come across a Garden Centre that is not dog friendly.... For me, and I am sure others, going to the Garden Centre is an 'outing' to enjoy. I was told I could order as a takeaway however would have then to leave and not sit down.... Meaning I could go into the ordering area but not sit down at a table which doesn't make sense. Why can they not have a couple of tables to one side that are for those who have dogs where they can sit down for something to eat and drink away from other customers like other Garden Centres in Gloucester do!

I just left and the reason for giving one star is that no where could I see on their website (although may be well hidden!) that Dogs are NOT allowed into the Cafe' area. Please don't reply by saying I can access the rest of the Garden Centre when part of the 'experience is to go to the cafe' too.... Even John Lewis allows you to take dogs into their stores and one of their Cafe's in Cheltenham! In this day and age with customers using online resources, I am so surprised at your discriminatory practice. Extremely disappointed

Hi Caroline,
Our dog policy is here https://www.webbsdirect.co.uk/dogs-in-store-policy/
Unfortunately, whilst we understand your frustration, if we do allow dogs into our restaurants, we also get complaints as not everyone wants to share food areas with furry friends. We therefore can not keep everyone happy but we try and strike a balance by allowing dogs in store but not in restaurants where there is only one restaurant in store.

If you fancy a trip out, our Wychbold site does have a dog-friendly cafe at the front of store (as we also have a restaurant at this location for those that do not wish to dine with dogs).

Best wishes,
Sarah

Complete rip off

Complete rip off! Extortionate price for what arrived. Apparently when buying any plants from these people you are paying for the size of the plastic pot. The plant in it (that you actually thought you were paying for) could be what ever they feel like!
After paying £18 for a hedging plant (pictured on the website as a full grown plant) to fill out a gap in a hedge, what arrived was a tiny 30cm (about the hight of a plastic ruler you used to get in school) hedging plant in an oversized pot! I didn’t buy it for its pot!!!!!
Don’t be fooled by the vague descriptions on website. A 4.5L pot, which should, in most garden centres contain a half decent size plant is actually a misdirection. What you a buying is a plant NOT grown to the pot’s actual capacity. this is a very underhanded way of selling you something other then what you think you are paying for. You have no way of knowing what you get besides the pot size! Very unhappy at being ripped off!

UPDATE: after leaving my review I was contacted by the company and after arranging a return they sent a refund. It was a rather uncomfortable back and forth where I was asked to send photos and a further explanation. I was told that they don’t usually accept returns for plants but they did this once.
Sadly it doesn’t change anything for other people buying plants from Webbs. My advice to buyers would be to avoid buying plants from them online and my advice to Webbs would be to put a description of the expected approximate height of the plant from soil level to tip. Other online plant sellers provide this so it is possible.

Dear Jenny,

Thank you for your updated review. We acknowledge your continued dissatisfaction despite the full refund and collection Customer Services arranged.

It's vital to understand that a plant's health is fundamentally in its robust root system, not merely its immediate height, as plant development naturally varies. Our plants are cultivated for strong, long-term establishment in your garden.

The photo that you sent our team was comparing the new healthy plant that we sent you to a pot-bound B&Q plant from the reduced aisle - which is why that plant was taller. We focus on providing healthy, well-rooted specimens ideal for successful long-term growth.

Collecting and refunding a healthy plant is not our standard policy; this was an exceptional gesture made solely to address your strong dissatisfaction.

We regret this resolution didn't fully align with your expectations. We remain committed to our high standards for plant quality and clarity.

Regards,

Sarah

28/05 - I understand that Customer Services have agreed a return of the plant? If you are now satisfied that your complaint has been dealt with can you please update your review - as you can see, we do try and resolve any complaints to the customer's satisfaction.

Dear Jenny,

Thank you for reaching out and for providing your detailed feedback regarding your recent Euonymus fortunei 'Silver Queen' - 4.5 Litre Pot from Viking Nurseries. I understand your disappointment with the size of the plant you received, and I want to assure you that we take your concerns seriously.

I’m sorry that the plant you received did not meet your expectations. We strive to provide accurate descriptions on our website, and I understand your frustration if you felt the image was misleading.

Regarding the pricing, while it's true that the pot size is a factor, it reflects the overall maturity and root system of the plant, which is crucial for its establishment and future growth. A larger pot typically indicates a more developed root system, leading to a healthier and more robust plant. We also consider the quality of the plant itself, and this particular variety from Viking Nurseries is known for its health and vigour.

To give you some context, we price our 4.5 Litre Euonymus fortunei 'Silver Queen' at £17.99. Comparable plants are priced at £19.99 for a 2L pot at Crocus, and B&Q charges £25.99 for a 2L plant. Our own grown Webbs 2L plants are definitely smaller and less mature when compared against the Viking 4.5l you ordered.

If you have any further feedback please do contact us at customers@webbs.co.uk

We appreciate your feedback, as it helps us improve our descriptions and ensure customer satisfaction.

Online purchase of patio rose

I was apprehensive about buying a rose online. I had a specific rose that I wanted so decided to purchase this online. The transaction was very straight forward. The rose was delivered on time, I was advised of the delivery slot. When it arrived the rose was well packaged, fresh and very healthy looking. Thanks to all involved.

Absolutely shocking service, and overpriced in everything.

My sister who lives in Cheltenham, regularly visits the store, and when I come up from Manchester we go there. This time we went as I gave her some vouchers as a gift.
She picked 2 Items and my Sister mentioned at the till that one of the Items priced at £29.99 ! had in her opinions areas of damage.
The lady serving, politely said that although she could see areas of damage, she was unable to offer any reduction and that a Manager would come over and discuss the matter.
After a few minutes this so called Manager came to see us, and I pulled him to one side, to explain the issue,as other Customers were in earshot, his first comment in the most arrogant manner was "dont touch me" like a pompous little boy, pathetic, well we got over his little tantrum and proceeded to discuss the plant, which he didn't even bother to look at, I merely made the point that we had seen the same plant in Marks and Spencer's in perfect order, and £10 cheaper, This person then said, and I quote, "then go and buy it there if you dont like it" maybe he was right, but his attitude was disgraceful, I said well look can you consider reducing the price?, to which this pompous person said, I'm not reducing it all, and walked off.....
I can tell you that this type of behavior will not win you Customers, and if that is how Webb's carry on then they need to implement some training to staff that think they are fit to be a Manager, this person needs to get some serious training.
Webb's do not have a store where I live, but you can be sure I wouldn't be visiting there, the word overpriced in no understatement, my sister does like Webb's but was shocked how we were spoken to.
I will be lodging an official complaint,

Excellent and enjoyable visits

This was our second visit in the last couple of weeks, and on both occasions, we have thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent browsing for pizza ovens and parasols. We were assisted by Ben on both visits, he was not only incredibly knowledgeable but also genuinely enthusiastic about the products, which made a huge difference to our experience.
It’s so refreshing to meet a member of staff who clearly loves his job and is eager to help customers. On one occasion, we even brought our grandson along, and Ben’s friendly and helpful attitude made the visit even more enjoyable. First-class service all round, we will certainly be back!
We were also helped by Terry on one visit who demonstrated the parasols well and offered good advise to us.

13/03/25 - UPDATE

Dear Helen,
Thank you for bringing your concerns about the Dierama plants to our attention. We appreciate your patience while we investigated this matter.

Our nursery manager, Mike, has thoroughly inspected the plants and determined that whilst they are healthy, you are correct that they were dispatched prematurely before their root systems had fully developed.

He found that whilst they have roots at the bottom, the lateral, fibrous root development necessary for successful establishment in the garden is not yet sufficient.

We understand your frustration with receiving plants that were not ready for planting and we apologise for this oversight.

We are in the process of removing the plants from the website sale until they are fully developed and we will issue you a full refund.

We do not have plants that are further on that we can send you unfortunately, but please do keep hold of the plants, allowing them to grow on in their pots until they are ready to plant out.

We are reviewing our dispatch procedures to ensure that this doesn’t happen again and we value your feedback and regret that we did not meet your expectations on this occasion.

Kind regards,
Sarah Brooks

Dear Helen,

Thank you for bringing your concerns about the dierama plants to our attention. We understand your disappointment regarding the root systems and the overall condition of the plants you received.

Andy requested photos of the root systems to help us begin our investigation, and we would still appreciate it if you could provide those. In the meantime, I have asked our nursery manager to thoroughly review our remaining dierama stock to assess their condition.

We are taking your feedback seriously and are committed to investigating this matter fully. We will be back in touch with you shortly with an update once our investigation is complete.

Thank you for your patience,

Sarah
