Appalling Treatment of an 89yr old !!
My 89 year old father-in-law went in to purchase a Bluetooth mouse for his MacBook Pro laptop on 6th November 2025. They sold him a wireless mouse which uses a usb dongle as a receiver. As the MacBook Pro doesn’t have usb ports, only usb-c, the mouse was no good. As it’s a specialist shop they ought to have known this.
I advised my father-in-law to take it back and exchange for a Bluetooth mouse. He revisited the shop who didn’t believe that his laptop doesn’t have USB ports. They would not exchange the mouse or give him a refund. They said he’d need to bring his laptop into the shop and that he might need to buy an adapter for the dongle. I believe that, due to his age, they presumed he didn’t know what he was talking about. This is certainly not the case at all! And he’s frail and uses a walker to aid his mobility. He certainly couldn’t manage that and carry his laptop. Plus, I wouldn’t want him to be carrying such an expensive bit of kit around town in any case.
Consequently, I sorted a Bluetooth mouse for him myself and advised he return the wireless mouse for a refund as it was not fit for the purpose he required it for.
He returned to the shop to ask for a refund. The bloke in the shop today, 25 November 2025, told my father-in-law that he doesn’t do refunds! And that the package had been opened. Of course the box had been opened (but no damage to it) as we’d needed to check whether it was suitable.
My father-in-law stood his ground but the bloke took his mobility walker off him and took it outside and placed it on the pavement! Doing this leaves him extremely vulnerable and he could have fallen. When my father-in-law went outside to retrieve his walker, the bloke shut the shop door and locked it so he could not go back inside.
I am absolutely livid about what has happened. They should be extremely grateful that I wasn’t there with my father-in-law.
I am shocked, saddened, angry and disappointed that an independent business in this town could treat an elderly gentleman in this way. This is not the community that we’ve fallen in love with during the four years that we’ve lived here.
I will be taking this further. We will review our legal rights as per the Consumer Rights Act and will be contacting the Cambrian News tomorrow. I will also be sharing this review across social media channels.
I would steer very clear of this despicable business who would treat an 89year old so badly. They should be very, very ashamed of themselves.
