Here at WGU, we believe that talent is universal—even if opportunity isn't. Higher education is the best way to bridge that gap, but traditional higher ed wasn't built for the realities facing many of today's students. So we created a university focused on expanding access to education around the country. We've innovated with students in mind, giving them the flexibility and freedom they need to succeed in today's workplace.

I would not recommend this school to anyone looking for real learning and support. The program is essentially self-taught, with little to no direct instruction available. The content is designed purely for passing tests rather than actually retaining knowledge. Proctored exams are inconvenient, adding unnecessary hassle to an already frustrating experience.
Communication from the school is disappointing, often pushing students to rush through courses without providing meaningful assistance. When reaching out to instructors for help, they are unpleasant and seem more interested in getting you off the phone than actually addressing concerns. Overall, this school feels more like an assembly line for test-taking than an institution that genuinely cares about student success.
Would not recommend.

WGU is a great school. The courses, the ability to manage yourself, and the completion pace are all on you.
The opportunity is the proctoring process. However, No degree, No company, No Process works so well that you want to do it every day for the rest of your life.

The compentacy based program allowed me to move through material I already knew quickly. I was able to focus on the subjects I didn't know online, at home, and at my own pace.

GU has been an incredible experience! The college offers a flexible, personalized approach to education that truly prioritizes your success. The professors and advisors are amazing—always available and genuinely committed to helping you reach your goals. They make it clear that they want you to succeed as quickly and efficiently as possible, offering guidance, support, and encouragement every step of the way. I couldn’t be more grateful for the resources and assistance they provide to help me thrive in my studies. WGU is the perfect choice for anyone looking to achieve their educational goals with a supportive, results-driven environment!

WGU is a great school to attend!!! Enrollment was easy, and the program mentors were very informative and helpful throughout my program. Taking courses online can be frightening, challenging, and overwhelming for some, but WGU staff encourages you throughout the process. I had faced some challenges during my program, but with the never-ending support from my instructors and program mentors, I don't know if I would have graduated just on my own. WGU provides ample amount of resources to ensure your success with graduation and finding a career suitable for your needs and wants. If I decide to go back for a 2nd Master's, I will be re-enrolling into WGU.

I love how you can go through a class at your own pace and spend as much time as you need to grasp and learn the concepts the course is trying to teach you. I like the fact that my studying is on my time. If I want to study at 2am, I can because there isn't a set schedule for the class. My only issue is that I would like to see some sort of recording for the classes. As a visual and audio learner, it's a little harder for me to sit and read ebooks and be expected to remember everything.

My experience with WGU was amazing. I graduated High school in 1996 and attended a brick and mortar college for one year before quitting. Life happened, I got married, had three children and was a stay at home mom for 18 years. I chose to go back to school to get my degree in education. WGU made that dream come true. The classes and curriculum were easy to follow and the work at your own pace factor helped me achieve my goal quickly. I received a Bachelor’s in elementary education/special education. A year later I returned to WGU to obtain a Master’s in instruction and curriculum. I can’t say enough good about WGU. My mentor kept me informed and on track. If I struggled with a subject, there were multiple avenues of support. I have recommended WGU to several individuals considering continuing their education.

By far the worst experience I've ever had in my life and I thought Middle School was bad. They force you to have a program mentor who will withhold valuable information from you only to put you in a financial predicament that benefits them as a university never as you as a student. Be sure to record and document every single interaction you have with them screenshot all your emails because they will delete them as well if it holds evidence against them. They do fairly bad business tactics especially partnering with person view who no matter what you do when you go to test with them they will fail you at least twice. WGU offers all these certificates and little inclusive things with the degree but I promise you you will pay for them times five by the end of your degree. RUN AWAY NOW they are using stolen student money that they hustle the students from to promote these commercials run for your life they're only advertising now because they need people! Not bc they're amazing!

For a college who's mascot is an owl, they do not care at all about their night time availability students. You will not receive night time support. Got an appointment? Too bad if you don't have daytime availability. You wanna get help anywhere past 5pm cst? Ha! You wish. Do not come here if "work around your schedule" means "working at night."

This review is for enrollment into the Nursing program. WGU cares about its prospective students and will work with you to get all your questions answered. They instill trust by engaging in strong communication both over email and telephone. My impressions of WGU are very good and I believe this school to not only be legit but also truly caring in having their students succeed. If you are looking for a reputable, affordable, online school that helps you achieve your goals, WGU is a great place. The people who run and manage this university are exemplary.

WGU was very instrumental in helping me succeed mainly due to the work at your own pace and acceleration. This was my first time using proctors, but after a few times I was ok. I liked the fact that I was not pressured to finish assignments. WGU allowed me to work the course at my pace and then test at the end.

Western Governors University (WGU) exceeded my expectations in every way. As a self-paced, competency-based university, WGU provided me with the flexibility I needed to balance my education with work and personal responsibilities.
The support from program mentors and course instructors was outstanding. They were always available to guide me through challenging coursework and ensured I had the resources to succeed. The online learning platform was intuitive, making it easy to track progress and stay motivated.
One of the biggest advantages of WGU is its affordability. Compared to traditional universities, WGU’s tuition model is incredibly cost-effective, especially for self-motivated students who can accelerate their studies. I recently graduated with a BS in Information Technology, and I feel well-prepared to enter the workforce with valuable certifications and hands-on knowledge.
If you're looking for a flexible, accredited, and career-focused university that values real-world skills, I highly recommend WGU. It’s truly an excellent choice for adult learners and professionals looking to advance their careers!

I loved WGU! The course instructors were easy to get help from, and scheduling was easy. The study hall was helpful, along with instructors checking in to see if anyone needed help. The accessibility department ensured I received accommodation for my success without any issues. All of them were super supportive. My mentor, Shreya Petal, was to noch. I truly have not finished with her wavering support. Every single WGU staff member went above and beyond to ensure my success.

As a graduate, from the time I arrived at the commencement program, I could tell WGU put a lot of intent and thought into creating a wonderful and memorable experience for each graduate. This experience is just a testament to WGU's commitment to creating success every step of the way!

Last night I tried to log into to take my first proctored exam at 6:33 PM Eastern time. After several failed login attempts, I called the helpdesk and they told me it was a server issue (INC2524021). My test was scheduled for 7:20 PM and I was finally able to log in at 7:25 PM. I clicked on the link for the proctored exam where I had to take several photos of the room I was in and a picture of my face. The proctor Evelyn A. comes in the chat and asks for my ID. Mind you during this process I can't even see the person but they can see me allegedly. Ok Cool, showed my ID, then she said take a picture of the ID on my phone and then put the phone in the camera. I did that. She then asked what my expiration date on my ID and wrote in the chat. She kept stating how it was blurry and lagging on her end, but on my end everything was clear. So she told me to contact support and just disconnected from the session. No rescheduling or checking to see if maybe her connection was off just automatically disconnected from the session that I had to take time out to schedule for. I call the school to speak with somebody about canceling my business leadership certification. Some guy told me someone would call me at 10AM my time the next day on March 10th 2025. Today is March 11th 2025 and I did not receive a call and I had to end up calling them. Now I keep getting the run around and how I can't cancel the certification only being in the course for a month when they already got their first months payment. Now they want me to wait 3 business days to hear from upper management so they can basically steal more money after I already tried to cancel last night. I'm extremely upset with the way you have to take test in this program. I understand they want to keep the "integrity" of taking test but who's to say every time I schedule a test the same thing won't happen again. How do I even know I'm even talking to a real person in the proctored test chat and not an AI bot. I was expecting it to be like a Zoom call where you can see both people. I have no idea if the person was lying on their end if my camera was lagging or blurry. Before you even take the test they check your webcam and make you take several pictures of your surrounding and all my pictures and videos were clear. I'm highly disappointed in this school and no longer wish to be apart of it. Telling someone they have to wait 3 business days just to cancel a CERTIFICATION is beyond ridiculous. Trying to take money from a single father in the economy that were currently in is diabolical. I would never recommend this school to anyone.

This is the BEST graduation I’ve been to so far. WGU is the third college I’ve graduated from and the ceremony was flawless. Kudos to all who put this together!

I had a great experience at WGU! I love the competency system and tasks. The professors are very supportive and always available to assist, including on weekends. You can always make an appointment and ask questions, get more information. Everything I learned is useful on my field, which I find refreshing. I love the flexibility with starting and ending on a term, rather than a semester. The mentors are a great, an amazing resource throughout the program. Every single interaction I had when I called or emailed the school was positive, everyone is very polite and helpful, I had a feeling that everyone cares! I recommend WGU to anyone that wants to complete a program that is affordable, high quality and flexible!
