Excellent service

Responded to my questions really quickly with explanations that I found very helpful. I think What 3 Words is fantastic and have used it frequently as my sense of direction is abominable. I don’t worry anymore when I’m travelling as I can always find my way around. Brilliant

A Life Saver (and time saver) for those living in the countryside

Postcodes are a great way of finding an address until you live outside a city and realise that your postcode could cover seven streets or 100 addresses and leave you half a mile from where you want to be when your satnav swears blind you have "reached your destination"! What3words is literally a lifesaver if you need an ambulance - and its also helpful for reporting flytipping spots to the council!

Highly recommended app

w3w - an excellent app and almost all of my phonebook entries include the w3w locator. I also use it to map my garden and record exactly where certain plants are located. The support service is exemplary, and a minor issue that I encountered with the new widget feature was addressed within minutes. Highly recommended app.

App closing issue fixed

I had a problem with the What 3 Words app on my iPhone. Every time I opened the app, it would immediately shut down. I had previously used it without any problems. I emailed customer support at What 3 Words, explaining my problem. I received a timely reply, detailing simple to follow instructions. I carried out the procedure without any difficulty, and the problem was fixed. Great support.

I love using What3Words

I love using What3Words, it can be comical some of the words used to identify a location but for being specific and spot on, it is unbeatable! My daughters house appears difficult to find for some couriers, so I’ve told her to use What3Word to the front door and it hasn’t let her down. My specific reason for writing this review, was to find an exact W3W location for a satellite image, that didn’t have any identifying locations close by. W3W responded with ///smile.extending.routs, which lies at the coordinates (40.935290,38.455769). Off the coast of Turkey in the Black Sea.

Lunch at a ski lodge.

Meeting with friends for lunch at a ski lodge was so much easier with W3W app. This place has three lodge buildings and our friends were in the main lodge which has 3 levels plus a bar area. W3W brought us right to their table!

Not interested in your business...

We enquired about using their service for our business a couple of times. On both occasions, we asked for a real human from customer services to follow up.

I've yet to hear from them.

What went wrong... everything. Completely useless

What went wrong.... Where do I start?! I tried to search for an address- it was searching... and searching.... and searching. Tried to use the map, could find the street but no idea on what house I was wanting. The idea of finding an exact location is great- it just needs to actually work for it to be successful. In an emergency it would be useless l, actually a chocolate teapot is more useful. I have wasted precious time with this.

Hi Derek,
We are sorry to hear this. I hope to help resolve what might have happened.

Due to the GPS chip and the device's signal, the what3words address for one's current location can be imprecise. And that usually happens when used indoors and in areas where you skyline is obstructed. In this case, we recommend using the app outdoors and re-tapping the location button until the GPS signal recalibirates. Then you can tap the square that best addresses your location and share the what3words address.

I hope this makes sense.
Feel free to talk to us at support@what3words.com. Thank you. - Naya

Developers, don't bother.

UPDATE: I have now been contacted by w3w. I didn't want to leave a 1 star review, but when a problem has rumbled on for weeks I felt I had no choice. Nobody had responded to multiple support request emails regarding bugs. Hopefully this might've made them more focused on fixing their software and support procedures. I have upped the rating to 3 stars after their apology and promise of ironing out these problems for other users.
-------------------
Developers, don’t waste your time with this sub-standard software on your website. I reported problems with it breaking functionality on our e-commerce site. They sent me a screencast showing there wasn’t a problem. They obviously didn’t think I would check GitHub where I saw they had fixed the problem after I had reported it, they are very disingenuous. There is also another problem where after the address goes through a payment gateway the w3w address is lost even though the variables are in the templates.

They don’t reply to support emails. I currently have 4 unanswered email which were addressed to 3 people and their generic support included a tech manager. Uninstalling the software was a headache and kept hanging, so it left behind entries in the database which I’ve had to manually remove 1 by 1. If I hadn’t done that then their w3w input field was still left in the checkout even though the module had been deleted. They are absolutely shambolic. W3W, don’t bother telling me to clear this up by contacting support because if you have any common sense you’ll see that is exactly what I have done numerous times and got no answer. I’ve a feeling that is exactly what you’ll do just to prove my point that you are useless!

I don't understand the need

I don't understand the need. Why not simply use latitude and longitude from any standard GPS app?

Hi Pierre, what3words addresses are a human-friendly way of giving the same information as 16 digit GPS coordinates. They are easier to remember, and quicker and easier to say over the phone, or to enter into a device or navigation system by voice or text. what3words has error-prevention technology which helps users quickly identify and correct input mistakes. I hope this helps you understand why some prefer them to latitude and longitude!
