Unique and Priceless
In 2022, my fascination with fountain pens was rekindled. I was left a small amount of money by my late sister and wanted to buy something with the money that I would use daily. Around the same time, I came across a chap on Twitter (as it was then) purporting to be a barrister considering a sideline in making bespoke pens. Why would a barrister, who I assumed earns a healthy enough wage to survive, entertain the idea of spending his spare time beavering away on machinery to create pens? Wig And Pens was created and I watched admirably for a short while as a variety of unique writing masterpieces were displayed online.
I was sold! My first pen from W&P is made from reclaimed wood from The Houses of Parliament. I required a specific nib which was not a problem. The pen arrived in a beautiful gift set, with cartridges and ink converter in a little pouch. Of course, the pen can have all history and presentation it likes, but if it doesn't write smoothly, it's not much use! 3 years on, the pen still glides over paper effortlessly - leaving my best efforts and handwriting behind it.
It's more than a pen, it's a talking point, it's a memory of my late sister, and it holds its own part of British history. It's unique and to me, it's priceless.
Wig And Pens is fairly priced, customer service is spot on, and in answer to the my question above about why a practising barrister would take a on a side hustle making pens...I now have the answer. Because he has passion and skill for creating unique masterpieces, and he enjoys being able to provide them to people.
