Fantastic!

This is a great site, and the Wild Flower Seed Mats are amazing. Now I can't wait to see the flowers grow. Speedy service too!

Website needs improvement

The website was in general clear and easy to navigate and the shopping basket function was good. I was surprised at the cost of carriage (for a very light package) but paid £8 by Paypal. Then I was told by email that the items could be posted for £2. So it seems that part of the website could be improved to better recognise the weight of the items ordered and match this to A) mode of conveyance, B) urgency of delivery.

Hello Mr Ellis, we have tried to make the delivery charges as fair as possible but it is not possible to put on the site every combination of delivery charges that may apply depending on what people order. The delivery prices reflect a fair charge for postage and packing. However, some items are quite light, eg, if you only have one or two small plants. In such situations we email the customer, as we did you, to see if the first class post option is preferable as this would work out cheaper. Some people take us up on this, some prefer to have the guaranteed next-day delivery service (the £8.99 charge). I should point out that this £8.99 is the most a customer would pay for plants up to around 10kg, which is a lot of plugs and small plants!

The delivery section of the website does also say that plants can be delivered more cheaply by first class if you only want a few, so customers can always bear this in mind and order instead over the phone if they want that option.

One final point of explanation - most plant orders are set to the default delivery charge of £8.99 in order to ensure speedy, trackable delivery, ie, next day (don't want plants lurking around for days undelivered). First class post doesn't always mean next day and is also not trackable.

Hope the above helps future customers reading this!
Teresa

Bee-licious

The bee collection has given me a range of exciting plants I wouldn't have known to choose. The accompanying info sheets give great details on planting, positioning and uses.
Hopefully our garden will be buzzing for years to come.

Superb plants and service

Ordered four varieties of plug plants and some seeds. All arrived quickly on the delivery date advised by a very helpful and professional lady I spoke to on telephone when sorting my order out. Plug plants superbly packaged up and labelled and arrived in perfect condition and very healthy looking. The order also contained great printed information sheets taken from the website on each of the plants I ordered which include information on the plant's properties, uses and best planting position which was great to refer to when planting out. Also really liked the 'thank you and happy planting' card which was such a nice touch.

First Class Plants and Service

I would highly recommend English Cottage Garden Nursery. The plug plants were superb (and huge), all received with planting and care instructions, expertly and safely packed.
Service excellent - all my plants arrived within a couple of days of ordering.
Superb service and communication from a fine online retailer.

Will certainly re-order in the future.
Many thanks
Phil

Sturdy little things

The plants arrived looking healthy, were well packed and, when planted out and watered well in this dry weather, they're settling in nicely.

Speedy Seeds

The response to my order and delivery of product cannot be faulted. As a non gardener it would have been helpful if the planting time, distance apart to plant each seed had been shown with all plant discriptions.

Hello Mr Bayliss, that's an interesting point and one which will be borne in mind for the future. Thanks for taking the time to mention it! Teresa

I have not complaints

The only comments i have are, that I thought the little jute bag for the seeds was unnecessary considering that this was for myself and not a gift, otherwise it is a nice idea.
Also, the pack of seeds could have been put in an envelope rather than a box, so that postman could have put it through my letter box, rather than ringing the door bell. Just as well I was at home.

Thank you for taking the time to review. The seeds were put in the box for added protection during delivery - if we have padded jiffy bags in stock we send the seeds out in them but had none left (we don't buy these in but recycle old ones) so a box was the best option available. Teresa

Excellent

A friendly, reliable supplier of traditional cottage garden plants and seeds.

Ideal for gardeners who wish to attract insects and to maintain a viable stock of these rapidly disappearing varieties.

Recommended.

excellent

i would give 5 stars except for that i found the postage pretty pricey. mind you, they had gone to a lot of trouble to pack everything well. very nice options of wildflowers to buy for the benefit of moths, bees, butterflies etc. good service. i liked the sheets they sent with the order about each plant i had bought.

Thank you for taking the time to review us! I just wanted to say that the delivery charge is as low as we can go, we make no profit from the delivery charge at all - in fact we susbside it a bit because if we passed the whole cost on to the customer it would be more than £8.99. However, the £8.99 charge covers you for any weight up to 10 kg - you certainly wouldn't be able to send something that weighed 10kg that cheaply via Royal Mail! We use Interlink and their parcels are trackable and guaranteed next day delivery. In fact the same service via Parcelforce would cost £21.59!

I should also point out that there are a range of delivery prices - seeds can be sent for as little as £1.20; 10 plug plants, for example, can be sent for £2.75; and there is another Interlink price category for up to 5 kg at £4.99. Therefore, I think our delivery prices are not that bad! As a small nursery we can't soak up the delivery charges ourselves as much as some of the very large online nurseries and garden centres and you have to remember that compost can be very heavy, especially when it has soaked up days of rain!

I am glad you liked the information sheets - they are practically the same as the info for each plant on the website but it's a lot handier to have a piece of paper in your hand when you are deciding where to plant your wildflowers than having to keep nipping in to look on the computer or have the hassle of printing it off yourself!

The new website was designed to make it a bit easier to find the plants you are after for the main wildlife under threat - butterflies, bees and moths - without having to trawl through every plant to see if there is a reference to a butterfly or moth that likes it. There is also an extensive wildflower database on the website to help finding information about the plants you are interested in - if for example you wanted only pink wildflowers the database would tell you which ones are pink!

That is not what I ordered

Everything came quickly and was well packaged. Unfortunately it was not what we ordered. A quick phone call and apologies from you sorted out matters and the correct order was quickly despatched.
