Can pay, but Wirral won't let me!

Moved in to my new home in Wirral 30 June 2023. Registered online for Council Tax 1 July, and completed Direct Debit mandate. An acknowledgement email told me to expect contact within 25 working days. Now, 12 Sep 2023, I have still heard nothing from Wirral Council. I held on the phone for 45 mins this afternoon, but no reply. So I used their online complaints form to ask why I still did not know how much Council Tax I owed, why they had not activated my Direct Debit, nor why they had not had the common courtesy to contact me within the 25 working day deadline that they themselves set. The online dashboard for MyWirral account showed the complaint was closed just ONE SECOND after it was opened i.e.it was not dealt with at all! I'm now trying to involve my Councillor as, it seems, Wirral Council does not want to engage with its residents ... oh what a nuisance we are!

For ALL issues - email ONLY the CEO

Poor Council - those attracted to work in its departments routinely ignore requests from Paul Satoor's office (Chief Executive Officer), and when you finally receive a reply it's from a 'no-reply@wirral' address and with excuses instead of action. Even, for example, claiming a late bin collection has been performed in the face of continuing advice that it has not. In short, the people taking jobs within lower departments of Council are the sort of people who would not survive in a company where they were responsible for their performance. This is not Council's fault - it's the national malaise because everyone has the opportunity to sit at home and collect benefits that do not just allow them to live, but to live a good life with takeaways, designer clothes, big TVs, cars and holidays. So why work? Or, rather, why do more at work than required to simply keep your job?

Therefore best to understand you need to be succinct in your complaints to Council, just tell them factually what has happened, tell them clearly what you want done, and give a timeframe.

THEN, send ALL emails to Paul Satoor's office (paulsatoor -at-wirral-etc) where his own staff can monitor/manage the situation and start to bring some accountability from their staff. Oh, and be polite but firm - write your email, but send it only a day later when you've had time to ensure it is polite.

I walk on a daily basis past the town…

I walk on a daily basis past the town hall and the adjoining offices. I've noticed on every occasion that the town hall and the unused derelict offices(which could house many homeless people) are illuminated permanently, this in these terrible times seems to be a blatant waste of precious energy. When everything we are facing ie. Energy crisis, increased fuel bills extortionate food bills that everyone are having to face! I have recently retired and the council immediately took a portion of my hard earned money off me for council tax, is this to pay for such a waste? When you look at the the rubbish on my road you can understand that they are looking after themselves

BADLY RUN COUNCIL

Is Wirral Borough Council, the worst run Council in England?
I think so
Dirty , tatty.
THEIR is not one road i travel down, that has not got Grass Soil turf , growing in the gutters and gullies blocked .
A recent re-surfaceing job in Thornton Hough, was carried out without remove this material from the Gutters, and the Tar has just been sprayed over it .
CLEARLY < NO OVERSIGHT
Wirral , seems only interested in building , un- used cycle lanes and un- necessary Sea defences.Waisting the very little Money they have.
Finally the reluctance to build badly needed housing on so call Greenbelt.
People with an education , with good jobs do not wat to live in Birkenhead or New ferry. The want a decent home in a decent area.Other Councils manage it , why can,t you?
For every house you get built you will get extra council tax revenue,
Surely , that far outweighs the use of a few un-used Fields

We have been having a battle with the council getting them to cut open grassy area opposite our house on a nice housing estate.
They maintain the grass for part of the grassed areas around a play ground but they don’t do ours much at all!
I constantly request this but all excuses are fired back!
Saying it’s a conservation area needs to be left for the bees!!!!! It is now about 2ft high and will take alot of sorting out!

Literally a rubbish service.

Try as I might to renew a bin subscription they are a frustrating will'o'the wisp.
I attempt an internet connection - but require an unknown verification code response.
I take a taxi to the one stop shop. It has been closed.
I am told by a passer-by the nearest respective shop requires a pre-booked appointment.
I call them by phone and am cut off.
I call again repeatedly and am left hanging on the line.
I can find no direct way to contact them by e-mail on their site.
Do they actually want my subscription?
I can walk into any other shop and simply buy whatever I require. Really a poor show.

Can’t even arrange to collect a bin…

Can’t even arrange to collect a bin correctly… 5 emails sent, 4 phone calls. Still not rectified. Useless.

Tried to claim the bin was ‘MISPRESENTED’.. a load of rubbish (no pun intended…), as my bin has always been presented in the exact same way every time for the past 5 years…. Ignored pretty much all of my emails, as they’re probably aware they’re in the wrong. Sort out your contract PLEASE, I can see why fly tipping occurs if this is a regular occurrence on the Wirral.

Did nothing to help. Awful 'helpet', on emergency food bank

Had covid with family, including an 85 yr old disabled woman. I am immuno supressed. Had NO food in house so called WBC emergency food line....what a huge mistake.

Lady dealing with calls SO unhelpful, uncaring and argumentative. Explained our situation, did not care and spoke to me in a dreadful way. So ill with covid, and worried about my disabled mother, who is an insulin dependent diabetic. She was awful, my I'll mother was besides me and the conversation should have been recorded, all the above and more

We got NO help at all from her only argumentative nastiness. We got NO food help and was told by her to order Uber eats!!!! Truly unbelievable.

If this is WBC standard, would never ask for help from them again, as know I would not get it anyway. Dreadful service.

Maria Sheen

Maria Sheen, Commissioning Officer, drunk from night before every morning, big problem with wine, confirmed by work colleagues, doesn't know what day it is and she is in charge of Looked after children under 16 in The Wirral, no wonder crime is at its highest when you have brainless twits like Maria in charge

Awful and terrible customer service.

Awful customer service to put it politely. When I do manage to speak to someone after an average of 30 minutes no one seems to know what to do about a simple issue. (This has happened on numerous occasions) I have emailed several times also and all I have received back is the standard automated reply that I will be contacted within 20 working days. I’m still waiting for replies after double that time. My mum is owed a large sum of money and the council seem to assume that it’s good practice to keep hold of her money for as long as they want. I’m sure that if I owed a couple of quid council tax then they wouldn’t be so keen for me to copy their behaviour and not hand it over.
Even allowing generously for the pandemic it’s been a terrible experience but they seem beyond reproach and able to get away with their behaviour.

Useless, incompetent or just no good, you decide...

Contacted the council in March 2020 to inform them our property was empty and asked for exemption whilst it was sold. Buyer already found just waiting for solicitors paperwork. Agreed with council administrator to a six months exemption then Covid-19 hit. Property sale completed in July within six months, then we get demands for outstanding council tax council claiming we agreed to pay on completion of sale. Exemption not available on empty property and no relaxing of rules even in Covid-19 situation. Queried this in September and waited SIX MONTHS for a reply to our e-mail. Unfortunately we were not exempt and need to pay balance of £450.00 for empty property for 4 months. Tried twice to pay online without success. Is this the worst council in Britain ? Thank goodness we live in North Wales .

Not fit for purpose.

Wirral Adult Social Services are not fit for purpose.
The most vulnerable people from the area are left to suffer.
My Mother died because they sent her to a home that couldn't manage her disabilities, it was only going to be for 3/4 weeks whilst I went to hospital. She was dead within 10 days. The post mortum reported she had seven broken ribs at the time of death.
