The likelihood of talking to a good listener is as low as hitting a jackpot
I’m a member, not a listener. I've been using 7 Cups on and off for a while now, and I've met some good listeners who are attentive, bold, unbiased, caring, and understanding. But honestly, most of my experiences with 7 Cups have been terrible.
I once met a weird listener who claimed he was a psychologist but had no intention of listening to my issues. Instead, he wanted me to look at a picture of a stranger (a lady) who he claimed was his wife. He wanted me to look into her eyes and describe my feelings... like, what? What feelings? Are you kidding me? Some listeners just seem focused on getting good reviews, and some listeners just keep saying, "You only have five minutes left." Come on, I'm not here to talk to a clock!
The worst experience was actually today, this morning. I’ve been feeling pretty upset due to some friendship issues, so I decided to talk to a listener whose profile had a few good reviews. After I shared my story, I don't know if she was projecting or just lashing out her own frustration, but she said, "This is not a friendship. You are nothing to her. You understand?" Seriously? How did she even become a listener? Her response was absolutely disrespectful. And at the end, she wanted me to leave a review on her. Like, really?! But she did receive a negative review from me.
It’s an amazing platform and I believe…
It’s an amazing platform and I believe that many people can receive help and provide help at the same time. It’s a place where people can grow and connect with each other.
Awesome for both members and listeners!
I know many listeners, and generally, I'd describe them as empathetic, patient, and helpful!
7Cups provides training guides and has guidelines that make the listening work well managed. It's awesome to find free support, it helps the population that cannot reach professional help yet, and those who have a psychotherapy process to find additional support.
Regarding the platform, it is very GOOD organized. It has forums, sharing circles, 1-1 chats, training guides and academic free programs.
Unfortunately
Unfortunately, started my therapy with this site before I found my current (fabulous) therapist. When responding to one of my messages I got the message had absolutly nothing to do with what I was going through when I was like
Dude I don't know what you're taking about
then I as no longer able to log into the therapist part of the platform
It's a Mixed Bag
OVERALL: Trainings are not required of the Listeners, it's optional. You could have a severely undertrained Listener or a Listener better than the therapists there. Anyone can become a Listener- good ones are in short demand.
As a Listener, I'm so appreciative of the resources we have at hand- there are several programs you can go through and learn about different professional paths, and there are so many training courses you can have the opportunity to go through. I have a lot of long-term Members that I chat with, and who express satisfaction upon finding me.
However, the few times I came as a Member to see it from the other side, it was subpar. Using the general chat pool/Chat Live Now feature matches you with a random Listener. It's so important to recognize that ANYONE can become a Listener and some people have very bad motives. Ignoring me, trying to sext, pushing agendas, etc.- and it was genuinely hard to navigate. No wonder Members are over the moon the second they get a normal person as a Listener-
You can browse for Listeners, but even us verified ones can be a mixed bag. Some just want the number of chats to go up, and some genuinely want to help. It's near impossible to tell from a distance.
An amazing platform
As a Listener at 7 cups I have discovered my own strengths while helping out an entire community of amazing people who have become a daily part of my life despite having only known them for a short while. 7 cups is an amazing platform with a wonderful society.
Im there as a listener and 7cups to me…
Im there as a listener and 7cups to me is like my second family they are really helpful to everyone and I hope you will enjoy your experience with us also all listeners there are for you don’t feel shy to reach on of us !
I am a part of this platform since 31april .…
I am a part of this platform and since then I have few bad experiences and few good experiences.. And I would say the head of the platform should be more concerned about type of people coming and should take action towards them because there are many people who use this platform to misbehave with female listeners. So that's one of the my concern...
If I talk about my good experiences that are so many. I get a chance to talk to people who actually need someone to listen them and I can relate to them it feels so great that you are helping someone by just listening to them. The mentors which I was assignment during my internship are soo good they are genuine, understanding.
Overall my experiences are good. I had spent most of my time with genuine members.
If you're genuinely looking for immediate help, I would not recommend this website.
I used the 7cup listener service as I was just needing someone to speak to about the anxiety I was going through.
The first listener I spoke to brushed my issues off and immediately started preaching about their philosophy. I was curious at first, but the conversation quickly became trying to prove his philosophy as real. Not being interested in the conversation anymore, I tried another listener.
This listener immediately told me to look for a lover as soon I spoke about my issues. Said I "needed" it, to let it all out. "Be a bed contest". He suggested. Told me that I need to sleep with someone and then suggested that maybe a friend would be best. Then, he asked me to be his friend....
Once I told him that I'm not interested in all that, I asked if he just uses the app to flirt. To which he said "sometimes".
Overall, would not recommend. The website is tedious to navigate through and filled with pay walls.
My experience of 7 cups
I have used 7 cups in two ways, as a member receiving help for my own mental health and as a listener helping other members. I love 7 cups it is an amazing platform to come for emotional support.
There are so many great opportunities for listeners. Last month I signed up to be apart of the welcome committee. I am loving it so far...
For me 7 cups is a community which is providing a great service for people who just need someone to talk to when times might be tough.
For me 7 cups is a community which is welcoming, inclusive and a safe space where people can go to chat without judgement and in confidence, meeting someone who genuinely cares and takes time out of their day to listen.
A Truly Supportive and Transformative Platform
I have had the privilege of being a listener on 7 Cups, and the experience has been nothing short of incredible. The platform provides a safe and welcoming space for people to share their thoughts and emotions, and as a listener, I've found it deeply fulfilling to be part of such a compassionate community.
The connections I've made and the conversations I've had have been genuinely meaningful. It's amazing how the platform allows people from all walks of life to come together and support one another. The resources available are also fantastic, offering both listeners and members the tools they need to navigate life's challenges.
Being a part of 7 Cups has not only allowed me to help others, but it has also enriched my own life. The positive energy and mutual support on the platform have truly transformed my outlook, making me more empathetic and zealous in my daily life. I highly recommend 7 Cups to anyone seeking a supportive community or a place to make a difference in others' lives.
it's really great
it's really great. it helped me hone my skills better and connect with people that needed support and help. it's got a bunch of training guides that are very in depth and informative
Amazing
Amazing! The people are caring and makes you feel like a family from afar
Great Platform + My Tips
I like the support that is available through 7 Cups! In my experience, there are TONS of listeners, so I can understand where some bad reviews come from. My tip is to look at a listener's bio and how many reviews they have to match with someone who can meet your needs and provide the support that you need :)
10/10
7 Cups is literally one of the most helpful resources for mental health that I've found (and it's completely free). The community on 7 Cups is so welcoming and supportive, nothing I've looked into can compare <3 I'm on the website as both a member and a listener, and I truly mean this when I say that both ends of the spectrum of supporting and receiving support on 7 cups are really fantastic and it's a great experience every time I log on.
A great initiative with a great community
I first used 7Cups as a 14 year old. I love the community so much. It is positive and full of good vibes.
Can vouch for the admins and moderators who have been nothing but nice in my experience (both as a listener and a member). I really hope this tiny part of the internet remains a shining beacon for a long, long time!
Really great however there are some issues that negatively impact people
Ive been using seven cups for years both as a member and a listener aswell as had friends who used the app as members. There is a lot of good and quite a bit of bad;
Overall i think if you find the right listner and you already know how to interact with people in group chats its great for those in need of help. However, finding a good listner as a member can be difficult for a variety of reasons. For people with more complex disorders who struggle with suicidal ideation with no intent or real will on committing as part of it, such as what can happen in DID, mood disorders, chronic illness, most listners are semi understandably not knowledgible on whats happening and unfortunatley ive found a few listners, both as a member and as a listner, to be extremely calous about their approach. So if you have a more complex disorder and struggle with living, finding a good listner that understands can be difficlt all be it not impossible.
As a listener my experience have been mostly positive, there are some great mentors who've helped me out so much and im infinitely grateful to them for all the help. However when asking for peer support with a particular chat i came across a rather rude, callous and not very understanding teen listner who was verified and a mentor so i think there needs to be more nuanced training avalable and made mandatory surrounding how to handle more complicated issues with vulnerable people. Other then that i have no complaints
As a member, ive managed to find a lot of great listners however for new people joining for help from listners specifically, newer listners understandably will likely not be much help. For issues surrounding anxiety and just needing some general support they tend to be good though. For therapy ive had a pretty fantastic experience, my current therapist understands me and my struggles really well and i adore her. I personally dont participate in forums or groups much so i will not comment on my experiences there
Overall, i like the site a lot. There are some rather notable issues that should be addressed however i havent found them to be a big enough issue to impact my experience however for others with complex issues it was a dealbreaker for them and i dont blame them.
A great place to give and get support
I've really enjoyed being a verified listener on 7 Cups. It's been awesome connecting with both fellow listeners and members. The platform has such a positive and welcoming vibe--it's clear that everyone here genuinely cares. Whether I'm chatting with someone who's reached out for support or working with other listeners, the supportive atmosphere stands out. 7 Cups really makes a difference, and I'm grateful to be part of it. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a supportive and friendly community!💖
A Beautiful Platform
As a listener and recent internship graduate, 7 Cups has brought such a meaningful impact to my life. I love the community, the mission, the solid but empathetic grip we are taught to have over each situation, and the teaching hands we can fall into anytime we get stuck. I wouldn’t trade my time on 7 Cups, and look forward to many years on the platform.
