Worst ever experience start to finish. First they denied the claim and only after a legal letter did they concede they were liable to pay. Then they didn’t follow due process to give me first recourse... See more

Done paying more for less
I've been a loyal customer of AAMI for years, always paying on time and never making a claim. Yet every single year they put the premium up and lower the insured value. Over time it's gotten to the point where the price just doesn't justify the cover anymore.
When I brought this up with customer service I was completely ignored and they offered no apology or explanation. That said it all really. To AAMI I'm just another dollar sign, and I'm done with them.
Give AAMI a wide berth these days
My daughter had an accident in my car almost a month ago. She’s a listed driver and was at fault. The accident happened in the early hours just outside a country town. The vehicle was towed by a local towing company to that town. The online tracking process isn’t working so I’ve so far made about six or so calls to their ‘claims experts’ to find out how things are progressing. It’s hard to understand them as they are all of a NESB. You never speak to an Aussie, it seems. Anyway, they keep telling me the hold-up is the towing company which hasn’t sent images of the vehicle. Turns out the ‘experts’ believe the car is at a towing place over a 100 kms away. It isn’t. They claim they’ve been trying to make contact with that company without any success. No wonder! It’s absolute bullshit. I ended up emailing the company after hours to check if it had my vehicle, and within 30 minutes was kindly sent a reply to inform me that my car wasn’t there. Of corse it wasn’t. It’s back at the town near where the accident occurred. My daughter informed AAMI in the report on the day of the accident when, where and by whom the vehicle was being towed.
It’s an ongoing saga. All the while, I paid the outrageous excess upfront just after the accident occurred!
Avoid AAMI. I will once it’s sorted, if it ever is.
Woeful Service
The level and competency of their service is shocking. I started my claim in August 2025. It started off fine, but as soon as their authorised repairer said they could/would not carry out the repairs, I was offered a paltry $1800 to cover the repairs. I advised at the time that this would not se sufficient and someone will need to review this. It was weeks before anyone reached out to me and once agreed, to review it I got a quote and emailed that as requested. Then I had to make 3 or 4 phone calls to figure out where that was at. It was only once they registered it as a "complaint" did they expedite someone getting in touch with me. Finally someone did and advised it would be a total loss. After speaking to another representative it was agreed on the day to finalise the claim, have my car towed and issue the payment. I received an email on Monday advising that the claim had been finalised, and my car got towed Thursday. I was expecting to see the payment come through before the weekend, as I had already put a deposit on a car and couldn't be without a car over the weekend. When I call the total loss team to check when the EFT had been schedule ... it had not been processed. So I need to wait another 3 business days and be without a car to commute to work. Literally everything that could go wrong did go wrong.

I had a very poor experience during the complaint interaction. The agent I spoke with demonstrated a lack of patience and professionalism and appeared unable to manage the situation or handle customer feedback appropriately. The overall handling of the conversation was disappointing and did not meet the standards expected when dealing with customer concerns.
Terrible customer service
Terrible customer service, refusing me a refund, even though they agreed my insurance is cancelled. Would never use again!
Rang to renew my car insurance
Rang to renew my car insurance, I noticed the garage address was different to the mailing address, which had the car parked next door. When I informed the lady and asked her to correct it, she then informs me, my policy went up $2.
Straight away I burred up and she said to me it was only a couple of dollars.
My advice is don’t sit back and cop it, challenge it, they come around. Saved $80
Please close them down you very unlucky…
Please close them down you very unlucky if you are aami they are big Scam company they show you hell they promise you the word before you pay any money to them for your insurance and once you try to claim they’ll send you to hell and back million times and you still don’t get any result, please. Please do not go to Amy. Amy is the worst Insurance you could ever have. They hire very incompetent people absolute incompetent. I don’t know what they doing. They ask you to supply papers and evidence you do I think they put it in the rubbish of their emails and keep asking for the same things over and over and over. It’s a horrible company. It’s the worst company. It will give you heart attack. Please don’t spend any cent with Aami any body better than anybody? It’s a nightmare of a company and when you talk when you speak with them they played the angel but they are the devil itself either their company tell them to do so or either the incompetent people that they don’t know what they doing and they trying to show that they working but they’re ripping everybody off if you are with AAMI you are very very unlucky
Poor customer service and responses
I am insured with both AAMI and Bingle who are both a part of the Suncorp group. I have had a not @ fault accident where the at faul party is insured with AAMI and I am with Bingle in this car.
I must say its a lot of work having to make a claim and continue to chase these clowns up. My accident happened on January 30. It is now March 4 and I have just got my car back. The door still has no signage on it like it had prior to the accident, their repairers won't do signage so you have to make an additional claim. This claim has fallen on deaf ears, no one replies to your Emails and even a complaint to the internal dispute resolution team goes too slow.
Now AAMI want me to jumt through hoops to get this signage done. Its $250 to get redone and they want 50 pieces of irrelevant information just to get some letters on the door again. Stuff like...am I registered for GST, do I claim ICT credits.....who the F cares ???? I my car had rubber ducks glued to the door and someone drive into the door I'd expect the door repaired and the rubber ducks back on. You guys need to put me back in the SAME poition I was prior to the accident.
I have now moved my insurance to another company and its costing me and EXTRA $1200 a year to move to that company, thats how much I despise AAMI and Bingle. Poor service, poor follow up and poor excuse of an insurance company. Tomorrow I will also be cancelling my life insurance with them. Your incompetence just cost you 3 policies.
Extremely Poor Service and Mishandled Claim
I do not recommend AAMI. My 2021 BMW was involved in an accident that was not my fault, and while in their repairer’s custody, it was stolen and criminally used. After nearly 11 months, the vehicle was returned in a substandard condition, with cosmetic and mechanical issues still unresolved.
Throughout the claim process, calls and messages were ignored, and only after repeated follow-ups did I finally receive any contact. The level of communication, accountability, and customer care was disgraceful. I will be taking my future car insurance elsewhere.
Operator language barriers present an issue
AAMI appear to have outsourced customer inquiries to offshore centres. This has led to 2 errors in my claim management due to miscommunication - the agents misunderstanding what I have said, leading to costly and lengthy delays and incorrect information passed on. They are friendly, but not efficient or accurate.
Car Insurance claim experience
I would like to compliment Aami for staff like Emily. I had continuous help and support from Emily this last couple of weeks. She has a wonderful calm and professional demeanour. She helped to resolve a frustrating situation and I had a very satisfactory outcome.
Many thanks to Emily, she is a credit to your team..
Sincerely Kenneth Donaghey
Capital Smart
Rear ended. Car got fixed quickly enough but the work was not good. Tried again. Repainted. Again, not a good job. Then there's the replacement of the rear bumper. Doesn't fit. AAMI repaire's say that there's no more they can do. How does a brand new part made for the VW Golf mk5 GT Sport not fit. Still discussing these problems with AAMI repaire's, Capital Smart. AAMI has the best premiums in Australia but, alas, their car repairer, Capital Smart is just not up to it. Really poor work. So, if you love your car don't take out AAMI insurance. I'm jumping ship as soon I find a better deal.
Had my door sideswiped in an incident
Had my door sideswiped in an incident. Asked AAMI to get it repaired with my own repairer which they refused. They promised me the repair would have a warranty. Six months later the the automotive putty which they repaired the door with cracked. I took in the car back to AAMi to rectify the repair. They refused claiming I had re-repaired the door. I Protested and they just ghosted me. Absolute charlatans.

They're a company of swindlers and thieves. I don't know why the Australian government hasn't held them accountable.
My experience with AAMI has been…
My experience with AAMI has been extremely frustrating and disappointing.
When I first lodged my claim after my December 2025 accident, the initial representative was excellent—knowledgeable and proactive. She explained my not-at-fault benefits, offered a hire car, reimbursement up to $200, and even contacted my preferred repairer to confirm they would take the job. I felt confident at that stage.
Four weeks later, after no updates, I was suddenly told I could not use my preferred repairer because it was “not part of my policy.” This makes no sense. Why was it offered and confirmed in the first place? Why was I not informed earlier? I had to chase everything myself.
Only after I called again did anything move. I was contacted by AAMI’s preferred repairer and only then realised my car had been sitting in a holding yard for four weeks doing nothing.
On my third call, I was told the car might be a write-off and that I would receive a call within a week. That call never came. It has now been two months and I still have no clear answer whether my car will be repaired or written off.
The lack of communication, conflicting information, and unacceptable delays are beyond frustrating. Determining if a car is repairable should not take two months.
I have been a loyal customer of AAMI for six years and have never made a claim before. After this experience, I would not recommend AAMI.
The most basic requests will waste days…
The most basic requests will waste days of your time. I have been run around by about 4 customer service reps to simply add items to my cover.
I have it all written down in a spreadsheet and have sent it several times, and they can't answer basic questions of whether it has been added or if I need more cover for their own policy. Frustrating and the biggest time waste.
'Unlucky your with AAMI'
Absolutely useless. Poor communication (both written and verbally). Poor advice. Daily phone calls to clarify different issues, only to be given more wrong or omitted information, and then the icing of being told yet another form needs to be completed 4 weeks after sending in the forms they've requested of me. No faith in this company whatsoever. Will be moving both car and house insurance to another company pronto!!!
Unlucky I am with Aami.
Unlucky I am with Aami.
To resume the situation.
My daughter called me for a water leak coming from the ceiling. Just made a claim with insurer. They sent their 2 useless plumbers to investigate the leak. Even with their technology tools , they cannot find where the leak come from. I ve got holes in my ceilling made by their own contractors. The assessment brainless plumber from Aami tried to trick us with his no sense speech about the water leak because he was not able to find the cause.
Few weeks later, Aami declined the claim with false results from their own plumbers.
I just call an independent retail plumber and the leak was fixed, it cost less than the Aami excess.
So my advise, avoid avoid avoid avoid.
Customer service awful.
Prefer to pay more for now with a Home insurer that get skills for these types of incidents.
Not recommend to take this insurance
Not recommend to take this insurance. Waste of money! Claims are unhelpful.
AAMI was unable to retreive my items…
AAMI was unable to retreive my items from my car after it was written off due to one of their customers. After being specifically asked for specific items, they have advised car has been wrecked. THERE IS NO LUCK TO AAMI, AVOID AT ALL COSTS
