I tried online therapy as a provider…

I tried online therapy as a provider several years ago with this company and saw all the financial issues previously endorsed by former clients creating havoc and disrupting trust between therapist and client. My additional inside views include about very poor, disrespectful communication from clinical administration relating to concerns about the that the scripts not working for many clients and clients not suited to an online platform or using it as a sexual gratification site. Also, the Ableto model pairs clients with coaches who were not credentialed mental health providers and their responsibility was to consult on cases which didn't occur consistently in my experiences. Coaches act completely independent from therapists, see notes and follow up as it were, so it is not a team approach leading to a sense of disconnection for clients.
I do not recommend this service or workplace.

I got a call from this company yesterday and they wanted me to use the service I got suspicious and hung up and did not want to give personal information. They said that they knew that my insurance knows about this. I did not believe them.

Waisted 3 months trying to work with their Macdonald’s level therapist. Multiple appointments were canceled within an hour of the appointment. Supposedly Kaiser has been improving mental health serves by using these guys but they are a far cry from a functional company. Find therapy elsewhere if you don’t want to waste your TK e with amateurs.

Possibly a Scam

Before I even started my first session, I couldn’t create an account. Then when the session was to start, you sign in and are prompted to enter a code. The code doesn’t show up in your email or text. The counselor then called. Upon my telling her about the sign-in problem, she responded that their system isn’t very good. "Technicians were working on it." Then the counselor wanted a name and number of someone else to add to the account. I said no as I’m not sure of their company yet. She said she couldn’t help me unless I gave her that information for legal purposes. I still said no. She said goodbye and hung up. Seems like a scam. I called my UHC insurance and they do have the provider on the list as well as AbleTo. Seems there are ALOT of these telehealth mental health companies. After reading other reviews about Ableto, I'm happy to not have gone through with the 8-week program.

My initial counseling went pretty well but then.....

My initial counseling went pretty well. $20 a session. $30 to get into the program.

Then they called me to offer another 8 week course of treatment .... but I got a bill for $160 for initial review and then $60 for my first session. I called United Health Care to complain ... but they say that is Optum Behavioral billing... I called them and they say it was done properly.... that I have to call Ableto in order to get it resolved.
Ableto is trying to fix the problem but seem very confused and are making me wait for 20 minutes to get an decision... still holding....

As a client

As a client, there's no way to cancel your appointment online. You can only reschedule. You have to call their 800 number and leave a v/m to cancel. I also sent an email asking to cancel, and received an automated message stating that they were "opening a ticket." I don't think it should be this difficult to cancel an appointment, especially given that my credit card is on-file with them. I'm hoping I don't get charged for a no-show since I'm attempting to cancel 5 days before the appointment. What a headache.

Therapist no show

I spent an hour registering with Ableto for a therapist, and a half hour the morning of my appointment getting set up for virtual, only to have the therapist pull a no show. I called the customer service number and the rep said someone will get back to me. 15 minutes later I received an email from the therapist himself who said he was having technical issues and to set up another time. I should have been sent an email prior to my appointment about the technical issues. Lame, I do not recommend.

SCAM

SCAM. DO NOT TRUST ANYTHING THEY SAY.

I signed up for care via my employer and was told by a few employees of AbleTo along with their therapist that the first 8 sessions are covered at 100%.

After 10 sessions I found out there was an initial upfront fee and they are now telling me I also have a co-pay for 10 previous sessions.

I highly suggest avoiding this place at all costs. Their therapists are great but their administration is absolutely horrific.

Account Deletion Denied by AbleTo

I signed up based on an ad, but never did use any services. I got tired of their prompts on my phone, so I submitted a request to delete my account, but my account deletion request was denied. My personal data will be in their hands forever now. I deleted the app from my phone to stop the prompts. So, if you sign up, it's forever.

5 star care, taking one star off for scheduling issues

While there were definitely issues with scheduling in the beginning (which was clearly just as frustrating for the staff and professionals I spoke with and seems likely to be an IT issue), I've had an amazing experience with AbleTo. I had no issues with billing that other reviewers indicated. I don't know if they have been to therapy before, but there is always an intake session with general questions to assess one's mental health, and it's not really a "getting to know YOU" thing, it's about understanding where we're STARTING from. That being said, the person doing intake didn't show disinterest or a lack of compassion or anything like that.

My therapist and my behavioral coach have been wonderful. I've made some progress on both short-term and long-term goals. Am I finished? No. But this has helped get me out of a rut that I've been in and has allowed me to put some things in perspective and work on things week by week and day by day. Additionally, I'd been procrastinating on seeking a new therapist after my previous therapist stopped taking insurance, but now I'm ready to take that step.

I'm really thankful for the program and the professionals I worked with.

ABSOLUTELY NO GOOD

ABSOLUTELY NO GOOD! Therapist didn't even show up first session. 2nd meeting, she spent 22 min on assessment questions, then said she was going on vacation & someone else would take over. When I informed the next lady this was supposed to be a virtual session, she informed me coldly that we would be doing phone. Hung up 2 min into that call and immediately called and cancelled w/the program. It did feel like a SCAM.Weird thing was UHC got me setup. After reading these reviews, hope they don't try and bill me.

HORRIBLE experience- deceitful practices!

HORRIBLE experience! Very deceitful practices!
They called me multiple times claiming that they partnered with my insurance company to provide a FREE 8-week therapy program.
After weeks of calls, I finally agreed to give them a try. I had an intake and one session. The therapist was clearly reading from a script and had no interest in what I was saying. They were unprepared for the first session, asking the same intake questions for the first half of the session. Every time that I spoke, she would give the exact same answer about “taking the next week to observe my surroundings and see how I feel”. At one point she spoke for over 15 minutes while I just sat on the other end of the phone quietly.
The session ended after 35 minutes and I immediately called ableto to cancel the rest of my appointments.
I then found out that my insurance DID NOT partner with them to provide services. All of my sessions are billed out of pocket! I asked them multiple times while setting up the appointment if there would be any out-of-pocket cost, and they assured me that there were not.
I realize that ultimately this is on me for not calling and confirming with my insurance company.

Unclear pricing

Unclear pricing, I was told there would be no cost and was not told that the informational call was billed. I was shunted from therapist to therapist without any notice, bio, or getting to pick up, canceled on at the last minute and calls kept being interrupted. They billed me 175 just for the intake info call where they tried to sell me their plan and that was it. The most unprofessional "therapy" I have ever worked with.

Two stars

Two stars, because the therapy was helpful (although heavily scripted and focused on their app programs), however, their "free 8 week program" that my insurance promoted multiple times via email turned out to not be free. The email clearly said virtual coaching with $0 out of pocket. There was nowhere in the email or in my interactions with the therapist that there would be additional fees for each session. Turns out each visit has a copay. Found this out months later. I'm not really sure the therapy is worth the fees AbleTo is charging insurance, but again, it helped me out of my funk which was the whole point. Proceed with caution. Get pre-approval for the 8 week program from your insurance before your first visit, or don't do it! I can say their customer service was very nice when I had inquired about the disconnect between the email and the fees. The providers should include in their scripts that each participant should confirm with their insurance what expected billing will be prior to starting the program.

I’m not sure how the billing will play…

I’m not sure how the billing will play out but - I had one session with a therapist who asked for my primary care’s info and the info for my neurologist who treats my migraines with Botox.
I got a consent form via email to sign to involve and disclose my mental health and …. HIV status with my physicians? I don’t have HIV but if I did wouldn’t I make that decision on my own? Further - why would either doctor care if I have an 8 week program of CBT??? Seriously something is off here.
They claim they “partner” with my insurance provider. They do not. They are simply in network which makes them no more a partner than my podiatrist. My insurance never heard of them except to look them up as in network.
That they want to disclose personal CBT therapy Information (from an 8 week program) to my PCP and neurologist is outrageous, ridiculous, a waste of everyone’s time, and in my opinion a violation of my privacy that could be used to stigmatize me. Terrible.

Amateur hour, twice a week, for 8 weeks

Disappointing and put me off therapy. Was paired with a supposedly licensed therapist and a coach. The coaching was very helpful. The therapist,Deborah, seemed like someone new to the profession who was just trying to meet a certain number of work hours. She was constantly late or absent to scheduled meetings, forcing us to have calls at more inconvenient times and never have an explanation or apology. Sometimes she'd try to redirect conversations to subjects outside the scope of what I was seeking help for, in a way that felt very unprofessional and dismissive, like she was bored by my actual problems and wanted to discuss what she thought was more entertaining on a personal level. This was my first experience with CBT and she was way too familiar, as though she were addressing a friend or peer and not a client. We only had two months and I got more from the coach, who was punctual and a better listener. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who isn't absolutely desperate for any kind of help. When you are depressed but high functioning, they don't know what to do with you. Most of the advice was very basic and unhelpful. You could learn more from a mental health Youtuber, and get support at a more sophisticated level.
