Rang Age UK to find out about hiring a cleaner for my elderly and poorly father.
Not living close to him, I didn't know where to go to find someone trustworthy.
They said they would have to come to his house to do an assessment and just this alone would cost £31.
What a total rip-off.
Greedy people and I wouldn't call this very charitable.

Just tried getting some help for an elderly friend using their "helpline". All I got was a 25-minute wait with messages trying to sell me products. Never spoke to an actual person. More like a scam site than a charity.
EDIT: Can I suggest that, rather than replying to comments on here, AUK actually concentrate on answering their helpline and working to help old people. Ditch the PR and do what you're subsidised to do.

During the recent heatwave an 83 year-old neighbour of mine suffered the breakdown of her elderly fridge, and had not the funds to replace it.
I telephoned Age Concern, explained her position, and asked them if they would finance a replacement appliance for her. A haughty lady on the other end said, 'We don't do things like that. We give advice on whete she can make the purchase herself.' Very helpful!
Now the CEO of this charity is paid £180,000 a year. Their shops, staffed by volunteers, make 100 per cent gross profit on sales. They are able to apply for 100 per cent business rate relief, and they receive tax concessions across the board. Bequests are large and generous, as are cash donations, so where is all this money going? I think we should be told, and told honestly and comprehensively. Don't you? My investigations continue.

House insurance premiums are scandalous ..I phoned for a quote £208 AA no accidental damage on buildings or contents no legal cover no home emergency cover no added cover for possession away from the home bikes or nothing ....silver cover wouldn't cover leaking pipes plants in your garden £516.20 p or gold level insurance £659.77 p again with no extra covers on anything ..I said something to call handler about ripping older people off
.it's shameful absolutely disgraceful the insurance ombudsman should be involved with this company ..vulnerable customers getting stung 3 times what other insurance companies are charging ....please be aware of this problem...
Awful service
Send products and charge for them giving you a few second to cancel.
Do not subscribe to repeat orders under any circumstance

Asked to add a lottery ticket to my purchase in the Rawtenstall branch. Checked online to find that my numbers weren’t recognised. This appears to be a recurring problem judging by other reviews. What is going on Age UK??

I needed to talk so called the line advertised on TV. I was experiencing high anxiety that day. The woman's attitude to me was awful she had no compassion. She didn't listen to how i was feeling, that my anxiety was irrational and minimised my feelings she couldn't wait to put the phone down. Made me feel even worse than when I called. Finally I hung up on her

I have been struggling for over a week to get my elderly mothers GP to call me about my moms symptoms etc ,etc,111 even sent the practice an email and still no joy,I was feeling so frustrated and alone,I was getting no support with my frustrations,so I decided to reach out to Age UK today and it was the best decision I ever made!!! The lady I spoke with was so comforting, she listened to my situation and said she will do her best to help me,I can't divulge the situation she helped me with for medical reasons obviously, but I just want to say that Lady today restored my faith in humanity ❤️

Called Age UK Home insurance to get a quote and was utterly shocked. Much simpler cover than other providers and yet they wanted to charge over £700! Utter madness. I have a normal modern brick house with normal build (no odd building materials or flat roof) in a nice area. All other providers quoted (for the same building and contents) between £145 and £210. How on earth Age UK quote came out at over £700 (this was without all the bells and whistles, just very basic cover, no high value items etc!!) is beyond belief. I don't live in a listed building or a palace! I feel concerned that elderly people may be easily duped into parting with a lot of their money when they could easily get good cover from another insurer. Age UK needs to be investigated - what on earth are they doing!!?! I shall be making a complaint and letting my MP know too. It's an absolute scandal. Shame on you Age UK. Call yourself a charity for the elderly!? I don't think so.

Am extremely upset with Age Uk which is a charity to help the elderly or so I thought! My elderly mother now needs a carer and we were advised by the care team to buy a key safe. I bought one then rang Age UK to see if their handyman could come to put the key safe on the wall. I was told they could only fit their ones at a cost of £85 I told them I had already got the key safe I just wanted the handyman to fit it. I was told no he couldn't, it has to be their key safe. My mother is 88 there is no one to do this for her and she now cannot have the key safe we purchased installed and will have to try and find someone reliable to do it. I find it disgraceful that a charity designed to help the elderly basically refuses to. The handyman can change a light bulb but can't put 4 screws in a wall!!! Am extremely disappointed at this so called charitable organisation

Age UK are useless do not bother with them!! I agree with all these bad reviews. I phoned 11/11 regarding wanted to complain about Technology and the older generation, and ask them if they were gettin a petition up about this as I heard they were. The advice line had a skeleton staff and said only stay on line if it's a emergency, so I rang the complaints line that was as much use as a chocolate teapot!! Didn't want to know and told me to email and write in about this, I asked what department and was told they didn't have one for this just email general enquiries. Honestly could he be anymore unhelpful, I just cut him off as I was so annoyed with his attitude. I have emailed them before about things only to NOT receive a reply. I don't see the point of these people and they should be closed down.

Amazed to read the negative review of Bingley shop. I always take my unwanted things there and everyone is so friendly and gratefully accept everything I take. Made some fantastic purchases there too - looking forward to putting up my new Christmas tree soon! 🎄😃 Many thanks. 👍

Dreadful attitude when dropping donations into the shop in Bingley. I took some “high value” items into the shop and was pretty much ignored at the counter for several minutes. When the female attendant finally looked up to me all she said was “put the box over there” ! No question of what they were, or even to look into the box and a basic thank you wouldn’t have gone amiss. It wasn’t just that it was the underlying attitude & dismissive body language that was so rude. So I walked out with my donation and took it round the corner to Sue Ryder who were very happy & appreciative of the items.

I was asked to buy a lottery ticket in Lincoln charity shop. The guy highlighted the numbers and explained what to do. I have checked three times and it's not recognised. Rang the 0800 number, gave my number and was told I hadn't won. The web site was having problems. I see an earlier review saying the same thing in July. Nice little scam, I will be donating to another charity from now on. Shame on you.

we took several items , all in excellent condition to age uk pocklington charity shop . the assistant kept shouting to a man in the back who we never saw , do we want a nearly new hearth rug , "no we dont want that . do we want a large siutcase in good condition, no we dont want that". and so it went on. We had to carry them all back to our car[ we are both in our late 70sand it was quite a way away .We will never take anything to a charity shop again , we will just take them to dump , no matter how good they are.

The young lady I spoke to from customer services just now needs retraining in how to speak to customers. I was trying to understand the VAT exemption rules and prices and didn't grasp her explanation... AND I don't feel she grasped what I was trying to explain either. She was clearly losing her patience with me, which was upsetting. I've been a customer of AgeUK for several years but have never had cause to phone them before. I won't be doing it again if that's how staff treat customers. I felt completely disregarded and demeaned.

Male aged 65ish soon to be married served me with insulting lanuage regards personl apperances. I am the victim of hate crime and social media abuses inflicted by various organisations connected with safeguarding children. Many of these people have been reported and solicitors hired to stop them in their crimes.
This person on London St with his personality commented on my mental health which has been made worse by blatant lies and abuses by NSFT , commented on Clarks narrative range for women calling them MEN as this is what this organised group call me in inneundo. He used the word section repeatably the word man and even commented on time of the month in some foul sexual undertones.
I have noted those in so called respectable roles outside the address that as above.
I am not going to be sectioned, I am not a man. and my time of the month is NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYONE.
I am a economist the only woman on my degree course actually and I am also GOOD in helping law enforcement.
I will not identify this person like he does to me on his phone and whats ap groups but he has now been added to the complaints against NSFT and many other agencies dealing with this.
