Never use airbnb

This is a horrible corporation. I had a host whose house had used sheets , stank or human sweat and had no ventilation. I thought our dog would die. Airbnb was totally tone deaf and refused to refund. This is a truly evil corporation.

AirCover is a total scam: Demanding 5-6 year-old receipts for host protection in an inflationary environment!

I have been hosting on Airbnb for 7 years(as SUPERHOST), and a recent guest damaged and broke a door handle in my property. I immediately applied to AirCover for reimbursement, assuming the platform would stand by its promise to protect hosts. Instead, I have been locked in a ridiculous bureaucratic loop for over a week.
Airbnb support is strictly demanding the original receipt for a door handle that was installed 5 to 6 years ago. This is practically impossible to provide, and legally absurd. More importantly, due to high inflation, a 6+-year-old receipt is completely irrelevant to the actual current replacement cost of the item today.
I provided Airbnb with a direct online store link showing the exact current market price (replacement cost) for the item, which is what AirCover’s own policy claims to cover. Yet, standard support agents keep repeating the same automated script. This is unacceptable. They force us to open our private homes to total strangers under the false pretense of 'host guarantee,' but when actual damage occurs, they leave us stranded over impossible paperwork.
I demand that this case be immediately escalated to a supervisor or senior manager. I expect my payout based on the current market price link I provided, or I will take this to formal consumer protection authorities and legally dispute Airbnb's breach of contract. Fix this immediately!

It would appear that Airbnb have no way…

It would appear that Airbnb have no way of validating or inspecting a property in order to ensure that it is of adequate quality to be let out. Beware if you arrive at a property and it has furniture of a dubious quality. If you break it you will be responsible. Airbnb hosts can use low quality fixtures and fittings which are not suitable and as a guest you will be ultimately responsible for the cost of any damage even it is through no fault of your own and down to the fact that the item was not of any quality or even broken and previously mended. Airbnb will hound you for compensation and take no notice of any evidence you supply. Avoid Airbnb and book direct after checking reviews.

I have no clue what the deal is with…

I have no clue what the deal is with this app in France. I had a landlord he hostile blame my spouse for breaking something, got snippy when I asked for a fan (on the hottest) day in French history. I reach out with air bnb , and they sided with the host because he has like 1000 properties. They have their priorities

Had a trip to New Orleans

Had a trip to New Orleans. My mom booked it under her name. Worst experience ever!! The Airbnb air wasn’t working it’s 100 degrees outside. Then they sent us to another one and it was a water leak all in one night. Terrible experience. And the 3rd Airbnb they sent us to the beds was broke and my back is now hurting!!

Do not use!

Having used Airbnb multiple times before, my last experience made me delete my account and vow never to use Airbnb again.
The place i stayed was advertised as being rated 5 stars by the tourist board. Upon arrival, it was clear that it did not meet those standards. I investigated and found out that the property was not accredited by the tourist board and that their previous tourist board rating expired 14 years ago but they were claiming it was still valid!
We left after one night. Host refused a refund so I contacted customer service who were the worst customer service advisors i'd ever spoken to. Language barrier, avoiding answering my questions and going round in circles. After I requested an escalation to a manager I was given a refund, however, an Airbnb advisor claimed that the host was allowed to display an out of date tourist board rating!

Airbnb plays the game of hosts and guests…

Airbnb plays the game of bouncing hosts and customers of each other, and does not provide proper comment screening. And doesn't provide rating and comments for all areas of service. It's a deliberate agenda. Some cities low rental demand results in hosts having quick responses and quality service and accomodation. Cities with high demand for accomodation, the hosts act lazy and uncaring, slow to respond if at all, high prices, low quality service and low quality accommodation. Airbnb knows, and does nothing!

Horrible situation

Horrible situation. I will never rent from Airbnb ever again. I booked a booking got my PTO approved and two weeks before my trip. My booking was canceled because the house was sold. I could not find another Airbnb that suited our needs and I could not find a hotel that accommodated cooking with a kitchen. The reason was everything was booked by this time. They gave me a $25 credit. I could not believe it. Do you think I would utilize a $25 credit when my entire family vacation was ruined? I then called to speak to a manager and I was told I would get a call back in which I never did. This company is bullshit. Worst place ever do not ever book through them.

Airbnb ignores its own Retaliatory Reviews Policy

I provided Airbnb with clear written evidence that a guest threatened to leave a review immediately after I enforced my booking terms. Airbnb's own published Retaliatory Reviews Policy defines a retaliatory review by three things: the guest committed a policy violation, was notified of it, and then left a biased review because their violation was reported.

Airbnb refused to remove the review, telling me on the phone that the review itself also had to be written in a retaliatory way. That requirement doesn't appear anywhere in the policy as published, it's an extra bar Airbnb invented on the spot to avoid applying its own rules.

If Airbnb isn't going to apply its own published policies as written, hosts have no certainty or protection. The process is opaque, inconsistent, and heavily weighted against hosts.

The absolute worst!

I have no idea how this company can stay in business. They are completely crooked and terrible! Delayed my account because it was so bad. Even the worst hotel is better than this. The platform is horrible, experience is horrible, and the “support” is non existent. Embarrassing!

As a host

As a host, I want to be honest about what this fee change actually is. Airbnb rebranded a straightforward cost shift as “simplifying” pricing for guests — but the math doesn’t lie. The total cut Airbnb takes hasn’t dropped; it’s just been moved entirely onto hosts’ shoulders, jumping our fee from roughly 3% to 15.5%. That’s not simplification, that’s a quiet price hike dressed up in transparency language.

Hosts are the ones who furnish the space, clean between every stay, handle guest messages at all hours, and absorb the risk when something goes wrong — and now we’re also absorbing a bigger chunk of Airbnb’s take. Meanwhile Airbnb calls this “for the guest’s benefit,” as if hosts didn’t notice the same money is still leaving the transaction, just relabeled.

If you’re a host considering this platform, know that your margins will shrink unless you proactively reprice everything — and even then, you’re now competing on rates that have to include a much larger built-in fee. I’d encourage other hosts to push back through official channels and consider diversifying to platforms with clearer, more host-friendly fee structures. It sounds like VRBO is 8% and I would encourage all Airbnb users to start directing guest on that direction. Also try hard to start your own platform. This can be done easier with AI. Do your best to show Airbnb this did not go un noticed!!!

Always worked out for me.

Always worked out for me.
I have used AirBnB for many years in many countries now. I always been very satisfied with the rentals I had and I never had any problems with AirBnB.
Only 1 time I had a problem with a host demanding more money, but AirBnB solved it without any problems for me.
The fees are sometimes to high, making some rentals a bad deal.
I think the website works really well, except for one thing, the search filters doesn't allow to filter on balcony, so I have to spend a lot of time opening every rental to find out which has a balcony.

Too high commissions from Airbnb

The commissions that airbnb take from hosts and tourists are insane... This way people don't travel anymore... They take 14% from tourists and 4% from us (host) 18% + 21% state taxes+ all the things we have to pay for light, water, and all the services It disappear 60% of the income.

If I could give Airbnb 0 stars

If I could give Airbnb 0 stars, I would.
As a host, my experience with Airbnb's review and support process has been extremely disappointing.
Airbnb states that reviews are important and that they consider both the host's and guest's perspectives. However, my experience has been that guest reviews are often accepted at face value, even where there is evidence that the review is inaccurate, misleading, or relates to matters entirely outside the host's control.
I have had reviews left by guests complaining about:
mobile phone reception on an island, which I have absolutely no control over;
an exceptional heatwave, which no host can control;
a guest causing damage, being charged for that damage, and then leaving a retaliatory review;
complaints about issues that were either historic, isolated, or never raised during the guest's stay.
Despite providing context and disputing certain allegations, the reviews remained in place and my listing was ultimately suspended, even though the vast majority of my reviews are positive and guests consistently praise the cleanliness, communication and overall experience.
What I find most concerning is being told to "fix the issues guests reported" when many of those issues are not capable of being fixed by a host because they relate to factors outside our control or incidents that no longer exist.
I fully support genuine guest feedback and maintaining high standards. However, there needs to be a fair and objective process that properly considers evidence from both sides rather than relying heavily on isolated complaints.
Unfortunately, my experience has left me feeling that hosts are not always given equal consideration and that decisions can be made without adequately taking into account the full context or the overwhelming body of positive guest experiences.
Very disappointing experience as a long-standing host.

I found out my Airbnb had a cockroach…

I found out my Airbnb had a cockroach infestation before check‑in. The host admitted it but refused to cancel. Airbnb also refused to help and offered no refund. I had to open a dispute with my bank.
Terrible support and no protection for guests.

I have been a traveler and a host and…

I have been a traveler and a host and airbnb is incredibly frustrating across the board. They just increased host fees from 3% to 15%. It's crazy. I hope another platform comes available and doesn't get bought by the monopoly. We are leaving the platform.

Left stranded by support after host scam—forced to chase my own reimbursement for 2 weeks

I have never experienced such a shocking level of incompetence and lack of empathy from a customer service team. I booked a listing in Lisbon that turned out to be a deceptive "ghost profile" run by a predatory coliving company I had previously blacklisted. When I reported the filthy conditions and the identity fraud, Airbnb AirCover stepped in—only to make the nightmare worse.

A support agent explicitly promised in writing to book me a hotel room, cancelled my current reservation, and then left me sitting with my bags packed in a moldy room for 10 hours during my workday because of an internal "system glitch." I was effectively left stranded.

A Senior Case Manager (Ava) finally told me to pay for the hotel out of my own pocket (€426) and gave me a binding written promise that it would be refunded directly to my original payment method (iDEAL) within 3-5 days. She then aggressively harassed me via phone and chat to close the support ticket before I ever saw a dime.

A week later, the money never arrived. I had to open an entirely new ticket and fight through a wall of copy-pasted scripts today just to find out that Ava completely misinformed me. Frontline agent Zia informed me I had to register a host "payout method" to receive a guest reimbursement—something no one bothered to tell me for over a week. Worse, Zia's main priority was reminding me that she had to close my ticket within 48 hours.

Airbnb’s support culture completely prioritizes internal "ticket aging" metrics over guest safety and actual resolution. I am a customer support professional myself, and I am utterly appalled by how poorly this was handled. Total failure of AirCover.
