A great disaapointment!

We met several estate agents during October / November 2025 with a view to putting our house on the market and taking their guidance on pricing and timing.
After an impressive sales pitch we decided to go with Alan de Maid in Locksbottom.
Things moved quickly with agreement signed and then photography arranged, pricing and timing we took their full advice, that is where things started to go really slowly and wrong.
From the moment of signing the contract onwards i often had to chase for updates, I was only looking for a weekly chat or email just to sense check where we were at as obviously we had our eye on properties we wanted to purchase too.
Often waiting 2/3 days for a reply or returned call, plenty of promises given every conversation and loads of examples of what else they are selling to assure us the market is moving.
After 8 weeks with one viewing I suggested a price reduction and asked their view on the level, they said good idea and suggested a new price I accepted and away we went with more promises the viewing would materialise.
In the end we had just the one viewing in 12/13 weeks, the family came back twice in a week but opted for another property just before Christmas so not a single viewing in January or February. Even getting any meaningful feedback on that was incredibly hard.
Overall it has been a hugely disappointing experience and one I will regret, so many assurances given that things would improve and so little activity. It felt like they were desperate to list the property to hit in internal targets but once they called their client list it just sat on rightmove with no other action.

I had to chase to get it shown in their window and for some reason they were unable for the whole contract period to show it at the correct location on their website.

No doubt this is not representative of everyones experience with Alan de Maid as they have been around a long time but it is ours, at no point did we do anything other than agree with every aspect of the process and listing that they reccomended so on this occasion it is on them.

Exemplary estate agent in Beckenham

So whilst we did not end up buying the flat due to issues beyond the control of Alan de Maid, I would just like to personally thank Rena at the Beckenham branch for being an exemplary estate agent. She is kind, friendly, approachable, and highly efficient at getting issues resolved quickly and tactfully. An absolute credit to her profession. I would highly recommend going to this estate agent if you are looking for a property in the Beckenham area.

After nearly choosing an Estate Agent i…

After nearly choosing an Estate Agent i had some concerns. I had seen 5 of the best Estate Agents, but was told i had missed Alan De Maid. So Mansoor called and answered all of my concerns in a professional and honest manner. This is a Probate sale but handled so well by them. The photographer/ EPC representative was also professional and polite and produced a photo package that surprised me. Only have to sell it now! Lol

Excellent from start to finish

I had a fantastic experience selling my house with Alan de Maid in West Wickham. From start to finish, the whole team was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly supportive.

A special thank you to James, who was my main contact - his expertise, communication, and dedication made the process smooth and stress-free. Ralph, Hannah, and Andrea were also brilliant, always on hand to assist and ensure everything ran seamlessly. I had assumed that selling our home would be daunting, but with their guidance and highly personalised service, I felt confident every step of the way. I highly recommend Alan de Maid to anyone looking for a reliable and efficient estate agency.

Don’t be fooled

The agent came in with what sounded like a really good robust approach about how families are moving to our area and they have a database with all their other agencies around the country. In the 16 weeks we were on the market with them we had a sum total of 3 viewings. The photographer refused to show me the photos taken. They were awful, so much so that it looked like the carpeting was raw concrete. The brochure had inaccurate information, was full of spelling mistakes and poor English. I demanded an edit. Between getting the photographer and brochure right it wasted three weeks. We constantly had to chase on information about viewings and feedback. The agent was late for all 3 appointments while the viewers were on time. No apology or calling ahead. Don’t be fooled by the marketing jargon and being told that their agents are proactive and motivated. It’s all lies.

Very poor

Where do I start. Over valued. Poor comms very poor viewing literally this is the kitchen this is the bathroom.
We had to badger the office for feedback and developments.
Poor write up of property described as 4 bed when its a 5/6. Walk in wardrobe described as large cupboard. They generally didn't seem that bothered in having us as clients. over 18 weeks two viewing.
