Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 43 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Consumers frequently complained about poor customer support, mentioning unhelpful representatives, long wait times, and persistent difficulties resolving basic account issues. Many individuals also experienced frustrating payment problems, unexpected account closures, and complicated loan processes that completely lacked proper communication and transparency from the financial institution. The minority of people were satisfied with the professional loan officers and helpful support staff assisting them through the home buying process. Some reviewers also noted competitive interest rates on certificates of deposit and appreciated having access to specific banking accounts without dealing with excessive monthly fees.

It is easy to navigate the Web Site even for Seniors.
I do not see the need for Brick & Mortar Institutions, that is amazing for a person like me who went early morning daily from Monday To Saturday through the drive through. Dreaded going into the lobby since many times it was a waste of time. Real Banker was in a Cubical at the back!!

However, guidance in “laddering” of CDs led me to call customer service.

The representative was friendly and knowledgeable when providing options and answering questions !!!

Great to have a “live person” option !!!

No record of account

My accounts with Alliant were arbitrarily closed in 2021, no explanation given. Sadly this is problem I know a lot of other longstanding customers have encountered. This week I called them to ask for statements from 2020 and they told me there was no record of the account so it "must have been purged". This is a breach of US financial regulations, which require institutions to keep account records for 5 years. The terrible service continues years later ...

I recently applied for a loan with…

I recently applied for a loan with Alliant Credit Union and wanted to share my experience. Overall, I found the process to be straightforward, but there were a few areas that could be improved. When I first applied, I was asked to upload several documents, which I did promptly. However, I was later asked to upload additional documents on separate days, which made the process a bit lengthier than expected. It would have been helpful if all necessary documents had been requested upfront to streamline the process.

After submitting everything, I was told I would receive a response within one to two days, but I didn't hear back until the third day. When I called for an update, I was informed that, because I was not a current member, the response time could take up to a week. This wasn’t clearly communicated upfront, and it was a bit frustrating.

That said, I do appreciate Alliant Credit Union’s dedication to thoroughness, and I believe they have the potential to improve the clarity of their communication and the speed of their responses. I’m hopeful my experience will help them make improvements for future applicants. I do look forward to seeing how things progress moving forward.

Digital my ass!

I had been taking care of my mother the last 4 years of her life. I was her primary caretaker for her last year so she could do hospice at home. Along with having power of attorney and being the executor listed in her will I am her only child and the beneficiary of her IRA at Alliant.
Since I really had to be with her extensively in her last years I was using this IRA to pay her bills on her double home as well as my own bills.I had spoken with an agent who told me that I was listed as the beneficiary on the account and that this was fine. In February of this year I noticed the IRA was no longer accessible for transfers. This is where the hell began.
02/20/25 Inquired about IRA & was told I needed to download and fill out a Traditional IRA Withdrawal form.
02/27/25 Inquired about the correct way to fill out portions of the form & was told I needed to fill out some beneficiary documentation & that email would be the fastest and most secure way to do it. I was told to expect the email that evening.
02/28/25 No email. When I called this time I got a very snarky woman who said because it was later in the day when I made my request it would come that day or the next.
02/29/25 No email. When I called this time I was told a "Packet" was going to be MAILED to me (arriving in 1-2 WEEKS) & that I would need to fill it out, MAIL it back & wait another 1-2 weeks for processing?!
EVERY time I talked to an Alliant associate I got a different story that was worse every time. The resolution for my issue went from a day or two to a week to possibly April. I need to pay bills & real estate taxes for Mom (me now) as well as myself. When I asked if there were any "brick & mortar" branches I was told that they were closed during the pandemic & it was "all digital" now.
What is digital about a preposterous process that may take a month and has to be done through the declining postal service?!
I was originally just transferring a portion of the IRA to take care of some business. I don't know if these folks are EVIL or just INCOMPETENT but I can't wait to get all of MY MONEY into my IRA. Digital my ass!

Pick Another Place To Get Your Loan / Alliant is the hardest company to deal…

Alliant is the hardest company to deal with that I have ever had a bill within my life!
1. I requested a skip payment last month because our business has been so slow!
2. I was told I could not have it because there was a payment due.
3. I paid the payment the next day after our phone conversation.
4. I was told IF I requested within 5 business days prior to the payment I would get help.
5. Today 1/27/25 at 11 am I requested a skip payment…. Again!
6. My payment is not due for 5 business days… I was WITHIN YOUR RULE!
7. I was told NO AGAIN because it was NOT within five business days!
8. IT WAS WITHIN 5 BUSINESS DAYS.
9. It’s not due until Feb 1st and that IS within 5 business days! Monday Morning, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday…= 5 DAYS! It’s due Saturday!
From the beginning of this loan with Alliant it’s been one thing after another and frankly I am sick and tired of your company.
I have explained over and over that you are lucky this note is EVEN getting paid! This is my mother’s note, and she has become bedridden since June 2024. Yet in one year and eight months all but one payment has been paid early! She is not able to work anymore, and I am running her business for her to the best of my ability. Our business has taken a huge cut in business because every single road any place near us is under construction. We are talking about 20 to 30 minutes to go 2 miles, then you hit the road… that is even worse! People are not booking with us because of the traffic, and we have lost tons of business, and I needed some HELP! There is a great chance that my mother will never work another day in her life because of her illness… yet you all keep messing with the ONLY person (me) who gives a crap this is being paid! If you think for one second a person basically dying and in bed gives a crap she owns this RV and payments are being made… you would be mistaken! Last month I requested you allowed a real person make the decision (not your system) to allow a skipped payment because its been more than struggle that I can prove it and I was told your computer / system makes the skip a payment decision. Talk about a personal touch there!
Your company created a BIG issue with the Power of Attorney I supplied you. We paid $6000 dollars a few years ago to have professional legal estate planning done for us and your company would NOT just accept a legal document that is filed with the state & county. You forced me to go get your stupid one-page Alliant Power of Attorney who I had to pay a notary to come to the house. If we ended up in court… I promise you my Power of Attorney that is legally documented in the state and county would HOLD up vs your one-page notarized piece of paper!
Another HUGE pet peeve with Alliant! I made a payment on the due date and during the day, in fact it was noon! Yet your stupid system would NOT allow me to PUT IN THE DATE I ACTUALLY PAID IT ON! Your customers should be allowed to enter the payment “on the day” they are making the payment and IF your company choses to take 4 to 5 days to process… THAT IS ON YOU AND YOUR PROBLEM YOU ARE NOT DOING THE JOB! This has happened much more than once and it’s just WRONG! Now I get if I made a payment on Friday at 4 pm that it wouldn’t get posted until Monday BUT this is not what happened! And frankly knowing Alliant you still wouldn’t even post it until Tuesday or Wednesday! It’s more than apparent you need to HIRE more people in the department that post payments or have a class on how to do a better job.
I went round and round with your insurance because this RV has been parked from the day it was delivered because we do not have a vehicle large enough to pull it… that has been nothing but drama. I did finally receive a call from a nice lady with Alliant that put it in storage until June 2025.
And one more thing that drives me crazy about Alliant. You make a payment and two to three DAYS
later you have someone call me to make a payment! REALLY... how hard is it to LOOK AT YOUR OWN RECORDS BEFORE you call someone and tell them they did not make the payment. That has happened
often, do you really have any idea how dumb that makes your company look?

If your company keeps making things more difficult in a situation that I am dealing with my mother’s health and trying to run her business and you all not working with me… trust me it will not go well for Alliant!

easy to purchase certificates

I've started to build a certificate ladder because Alliant CU has very competitive rates and it is easy to check rates and buy them online via their website. It is also simple to change the renewal durations.
