Love Alliant Credit Union
Love Alliant Credit Union! I have a been a member since 1984! Whether it be lending, IRA's, checking or high yield savings, I wouldn't go anywhere else. I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Rodney M. regarding our accounts and he was fantastic! Professional, helpful, patience and resolved all of our issues. Just be sure to call between 8a-5p to talk to an actual Alliant employee vs their after hours team.

Alliant Credit Union seems to be great…
Alliant Credit Union seems to be great so far as a credit union goes. I used to have a Bank Of America bank account before switching with Alliant. There rate on savings accounts seemed very reasonable. Also Alliant is an Online Credit Union fitting in the new modern age of technology aka Digital Age. I like the idea to that there support and helping people that don’t have access to computers and/or any form of electronic communication. For a forever bank to stay in they seem to be very reliable for the common person looking to get a bank account with fee on there checking account.

These guys just get worse and worse
These guys just get worse and worse. Not only can they not handle a simple ACH transfer on their website (you initiate the transfer, go through all the steps, and then nothing happens, then you have to do it again and again).
Their support does everything possible to straight up ignore you.
The only kind of official communication they offer is the messaging system on their website. No email. No chat. You leave a message, to which they typically respond with some automated script that's not at all relevant to your issue.
If you want them to do anything you have to go to the regulatory bodies above them, get leverage on them, make threats, etc.
Completely unprofessional and awful to deal with. They didn't use to be this bad, years ago, but now I'm overseas, don't have the luxury of switching so easily, and am stuck with these assclowns.
Upstart/ Alliant credit union loan = bad news
I took out a personal loan with Upstart/Alliant Credit Union.I whole heartedly regret it, this is a vile company, check reddit reviews. If you need help with consolidation this option will cost you so much more money than seeking help from a credit counselor.
I sent an overnight check in the amount…
I sent an overnight check in the amount of $39,744. They outsourced the payoff processing so they claim they cannot even talk with, or email them. They had an employee reach out and ask if she could get payment for the payment in November, two and a half weeks away, when I sent them a check to payoff the entire loan. She said they wanted to be sure to get it because she thinks they lost the check that was signed for and is in their building. I have spent 6 nightmarish days with no one helping. I've never seen a company that is run so badly and uncaring. Not one manager has reached out and I have gotten to the point of needing to email their leadership team with no response at all. I would tell you never, never use this company. $39,744 is a lot of money but not one person has shown any compassion for them losing the check and not processing the payoff.
Alliant Credit Union cannot be trusted
Alliant Credit Union cannot be trusted. They made a mistaken deposit into my wife's account, then, months later, took money out of my son's account to recover it. This is, obviously, illegal. They did all this without any communication, and it took us a month of constant calls and emails to figure out what was going on. Even then, the only way I was able to get any answers was by contacting them on LinkedIn. Member Services was friendly and did their best, but they were completely in the dark and seemed to be almost entirely disconnected from the back office. Alliant silently closed our case multiple times and basically treated us as though we were doing something fraudulent, even though they were the ones who both created and mishandled the situation.
Awful RV loan experience!
This credit union is AWFUL. We have been making extra payments every month for a year, writing in the memo line to apply extra payment to the principal, but they don't do it, they apply it to the interest!! I spent 2 hours on the phone for them to tell me if I want it applied to principal I have to CALL EVERY TIME after I make the payment . That is absurd, I have had many different types of loans over the years, and never have I had to call after every payment.....if there's an overpayment it automatically goes to principal. Just awful customer service. Wish I could refi, but now interest rates are way higher than a year ago so I'm pretty much stuck.....learn from my mistake....run from this company!
Service has really gone downhill
I have been a member since 2016 and used to sing the praises of Alliant, but have noticed the last few times something needed escalation it seems to go to a void and die, to the point that I'm now opening an account elsewhere. The most recent example was after some fraudulent activity occurred, all my account numbers were changed and a new expedited debit card was to be generated.
After four days, nothing appeared on the site about a new card so I called again, the lady I spoke to said she could see the notes about an expedited card with no fee, so she sent it on to the team that was to handle that and I would have an email by the end of the day with tracking info. It's now the next day and nothing.
Their first-tier customer service is generally a good experience, but anytime something needs to be escalated beyond them it seems to fall into a black hole.
Update 10/3/24: I received checks in the mail yesterday, still no peep about the debit card. I was also planning to do a mortgage refi when rates come down. Three emails have been sent to the mortgage team to delete the account I had to create to start the process and I have had no response. Started the transfer of the last of my funds in checking to my new bank and planning to close all accounts in a couple days.
The worst service regarding ATM cards
The worst service regarding ATM cards. After 5 long phone calls trying to get a functioning ATM savings card, not a Debit visa card, strictly an ATM cash card, I still have not gotten the correct card. They keep sending the debit visa catd which we don’t want. Then, after clearly saying, DO NOT CANCEL MY HUSBANDS ATM Savings CARD, the only working card we have since we were leaving on an international trip the next day!!!!’ They cancelled that card. So unprofessional. Have yet to get any correct answer or card sent. Absolute nightmare of stress dealing with non-functioning agents who know nothing and screw up everything.
Tried to open an account
Tried to open an account. Gave all my details, got lots of Green check marks, but then said my application was rejected. Called and said they will refer to "security team" but after 3 days, no response. Who do I have to sleep with to get an account?
Been banking here since 2008
Been banking here since 2008. Great loan rates. Great credit card rates and most important, great functionality! In other words, I have the same functions pretty much as I would with a bigger bank.
I LOVE that they kill all ATM fees. This means if there's an atm, it's in-network because Alliant pays the ATM fees and that is an epic perk.
The only thing is that their daily transfer cut off time is 2:30p CST which is early to me. Otherwise, I've truly enjoyed my banking experience here. And yes, they do not play with Zelle but... they do with PayPal and Venmo etc.
Customer service is off the charts…
Customer service is off the charts white glove. Products are so easy to use. Plus, no overhead of physical branches (Alliant is all digital), so they can focus on member savings. Love this place.
Old school processes for being an…
Old school processes for being an on-line bank. Have to mail in Power of Attorney Affidavit versus on line submission. They won't talk to you until they receive it but it's still not in their queue. It's 2024 People. AND AN ON LINE BANK. Ridiculous.

I have a home loan through Alliant that was serviced by Dovenmuehle with a separate app. Then the app went away and I had a complicated path to website to get to that looked like the app. Now that doesn’t work. No communications about changes and now no payment portal. I can pay $9 to pay by phone or send a check. I don’t even know where my checks are. This is absolutely 1999 mortgage service.

I am so sorry I moved my accounts to this bank. They don't do Zelle, they can't get a Cashiers Check right. Nobody seems to know how to do anything correctly! This "bank" is a joke. Moving all my accounts again!
Worst CU ever , don't finance with these people !
I have a travel trailer loan and every month I get a harassing phone call from collections even if I pay on time . The last collections guy I talked to says I need to pay my loan 5 days early or I will get this phone call every month . These calls are rude and this CU is the worst I've ever dealt with . I will be doing a refi wit AZ One CU as soon as possible and will never do business with this bank ever again . I don't pay loans late , never have and I shouldn't have to deal with rude collectors every month just because I chose Alliant to finance my Trailer . You can look and see more reviews her talking about these rude phone calls , I'm not the only one .
24/7 skilled human, good promos
I've been with Alliant about 2 years. I cite a number of interactions in this review but the most recent were yesterday (used a promo, used their credit card, talked to customer service).
Like many people, I like their high-cashback credit card and their CD rates which are often near the top of the range. That's why I signed up. But there are 5 other things I really like about them that I think are less well-known:
1. Promos. Their credit card has some pretty good promos as well, and they've credited easily for me in the past. Recently I've gotten a limited-time 3% on everything, and a 10% on mobile wallet up to a cap. Beyond the card, they also gave me some free AD&D insurance, which I think is fairly common for credit unions but still nice.
2. Security with account linking. They have 2 features I really like: #1 I can link an external bank account so that it cannot be used to make transfers but can only be used to autopay my credit card. I like this because then someone who hacks my Alliant account wouldn't be able to drain my external bank account. #2 They allow linking of bank accounts with micro deposits. This is still fairly common but becoming less so. They also allow Plaid, which I don't use but I like having options.
3. They sent me free checks when I signed up!
4. They allow secure messaging. This is pretty common but getting less common. They also get back to me quickly when I ask for help via that method.
5. Great at handling "crises." I've had three situations where I've needed help right away at night, one of those was on the weekend. Each time, I was able to get immediate help from someone on the phone who KNEW WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT. There are other banks like this but I think Alliant is about the best I've seen in this department.
Here are the three cases:
1. I linked Alliant to my online broker, then the online broker screwed up the account number but still approved the link. Then I tried to buy something on my broker, it went through and then later the broker was like oh no, your funding source didn't work and now you owe us money to cover the purchase we already made. It took me a while to figure out that the broker screwed up the account number, but in the meantime Alliant was able to give me all the detail from their end that night.
2. Credit card fraud situation. I had a random weird charge show up on my credit card, called them, they immediately did the standard close-and-send-you-a-new-card process and also refunded my account within a couple days.
3. Website issue. I was having an issue with the Alliant website, it was glitching out for me and I was close to my credit card payment due date. I called on Saturday night and very quickly got someone who was able to process a payment for me over the phone and explain options I would have to get around this in the future. The website issue went away while I was still on the phone, so maybe they fixed that at the same time.
Beyond this, they have also always been "no BS" for me with large transfers. I always tell them ahead of time when there is going to be a big outgoing transfer or a huge incoming transfer. Then when I make the transfers, they go through.
They are one of two banks with whom I have resolved 100% of my issues with the first phone call.
Frequently harassing me with phone…
Frequently harassing me with phone calls and texts after I made my loan payment.after numerous requests they continue .Worst credit union ever!
