MAJOR ALERT for Jewellery store chain - Angus and Coote
MAJOR ALERT for Jewellery store chain Angus and Coote. I am not happy that I have to give this company one star! They deserve none. I purchased an engagement ring (which doubles as my wedding ring) and have had to return the ring 4 x due to the diamonds falling out. [3 x it has been returned to Burwood NSW and 1 x Parramatta (the third time)]. When the 4th diamond fell out, I returned to Burwood saying I wanted a refund. The diamonds have fallen out over the time frame of 2 years. Each time the ring was in repair, I was without it for three weeks approx. When I went the fourth time to Burwood, I said that I do not want it fixed I want my money back. [Note: After the diamond fell out the second time, the shop person told me they gave me a new ring]. So, the issue must be the design and the manufacturer. In emails with the main office of Angus and Coote they eventually said they would give me a store credit for Prouds, Angus and Coote, or Michael Hill. I thought this didn't sound right. How can they give credit to another store if they are not somehow in partnership with them? I chose Angus n Coote over Prouds and Michael Hill in the first place for different reasons, especially because I loved this ring. I then searched for reviews for Angus and Coote / and Michael Hill (as I was weakening regarding the voucher) and there are so many reviews with similar stories where diamonds and stones have fallen out of rings and people are disgusted with both stores. I contacted Fair Trading. I have waited quite a few weeks as they are pretty busy and today I had a call. I told the lady my story. She rang the store, and now I am even more disgusted as Burwood said that this was only the second time I had returned the ring. Burwood knows how many times I have been there and to Parramatta. I asked Fair Trading what do I do? I got pretty upset. She said Fair Trading is independent, so she can't say either way. She said I would have to go to the Tribunal to take it further. I assume that Angus n Coote knows this will happen, and they anticipate people won't go to the tribunal. What I want to say here is, PLEASE DO NOT GO TO ANGUS AND COOTE FOR A RING WITH A STONE OR DIAMONDS IN IT. Please do a review check. IF/WHEN THERE IS ANY ISSUE WITH THE RING, YOU WILL NOT GET YOUR MONEY BACK OR VERY LITTLE CHANCE. I ALSO suggest that if you have had OR know of someone who has had a similar issue or circumstance - PLEASE CONTACT FAIR TRADING so they can make a note. She said that if quite a few issues arise, they will have to investigate the company, which I say needs to be done already. On another note, how can I trust the appraising jeweller? He will not be independent. The jeweller who checked it said that I must have knocked it or dropped the ring - what sort of engagement ring product, if normal wear, is deemed the purchaser's fault - I do not ever remember dropping my ring, and if I had, there is carpet everywhere at home or where I work. I work in an office typing, I do not wear it at home, and I do not play sports or the like. If the ring can not hold up to normal wear and handwashing, what sort of manufactured product is it? Honestly, please do not trust them. Initially, when I rang to follow up on the request for the refund, as it was taking a while, I said - just to let you know I want a refund - the shop person said, 'We are honest, and our jeweller is honest' - why would she need to do that? I was only saying, 'Please note, I don't want my ring back - (because I told Parramatta the same, but they just fixed it). Now I understand why. I would never purchase from them ever again and warn anyone, especially any bride-to-be, to look elsewhere for your engagement ring.
