Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 913 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. People are extremely frustrated with excessively long phone wait times, automated systems that constantly fail to connect, and unhelpful customer support when trying to resolve critical payment and account issues. Consumers frequently deal with delayed deposits, unexpected transaction holds, and sudden account closures without proper advance notice. Though some customers encountered severe banking obstacles, a few reviewers were happy with specific branch staff who provided professional, attentive, and welcoming assistance. These positive interactions successfully resolved urgent matters and made certain branch visits smooth and genuinely reassuring despite widespread systemic frustrations.

I had a relatively short appointment…

I had a relatively short appointment with Ms. Dorela Redzepi at the Bank of America Decatur branch in Las Vegas today, and it was an excellent experience.

As a disabled customer, I am unfortunately used to feeling rushed or not fully heard. Today was different. Even though the meeting was brief, Ms. Redzepi was efficient, professional, patient, and genuinely caring. She took the time to listen to my concerns, made sure I understood the process, and resolved my problem.

After a frustrating experience with customer service by phone the day before, it was such a relief to receive thoughtful, respectful help in person. Ms. Redzepi made me feel valued as a customer. Bank of America is fortunate to have her at the Decatur branch.

Misrepresented Loan Approval

This review is about the company and not individuals in the branches, who i find to be very nice and helpful.
The corporation itself is about to lose two customers. My husband and I are considered preferred customers due to our balances and credit scores. Any time we have interaction the banks asks us if we'd like a helicopter, home loan, auto loan etc.
This week, we applied for an auto loan online, with an 861 credit score for me and 840 for my spouse. Very quickly, it was approved and we were sent two celebration emais and a loan approval number. We were happy with the interest rate. So I called and asked how we proceed from here. Edwin told me that he simply needed me to restate my birthday, address, last four of social, and phone number. It took about 4 minutes. He then asked if my husbandcwas with me. I said he was at work. I was then told that since the application had all his info and was verified by hime, they would just need to speak with him when he could call and verify the se as they did with me. After that they would send a letter with a bar code number and the dealership could punch that in to get the loan funds.
Ok, so I call back when husband gets home. They ask him to verify name, address, phone and social. He does that. 59 minutes later, we are told the have to let their underwriters review the loan. My husband has more money in his accounts than me and earns more than me. Yet, they have to review? They said they will call back in one or two business days. This is day 2 and no call.
So I asked, " guess that approval email with the terms was just fiction?" No, but the application says we have the right to review. I then said, but we're past tje application phase when you sent the approval email and terms, unless yhat was just fiction."
He was very vague and asked questions like have you changed your name recently. We already have financing guaranteed by cdealer, but BofA is abetter rate and not insulting of our credit score. But I guess it was fiction.
We even went into our bank this morning and the wonderful loan officer, who we should have started with, called and asked what the heck is going on with our preferred customers. They are sitting right here and everything is documented. He was vague with her and she was surprised and said we'd still have to wait to hear back.
I would not be upset had this been told to us from the beginning, but dont send an approval.letter and number and do this. All trust is lost, not to mention time.
We will very likely change banks over this. That will include savings, checking, CDs and credit cards. Until then, any time a teller asks me dont you want a home loan, personal loan, etc. I will say no, but not before the teller and every person in line behind me, be it 1 or 101 people, has to listen to me tell the teller this story.
Shame on you Bank of America. If this is how they treat preferred 861 credit score customers, I hate to think how they treat other customers.
Chase, Truist, here we come.

I was surprised to read some of their…

I was surprised to read some of their reviews in the past. FOR ME IT WAS THE TOTAL OPPOSITE. I gladly praise Yaraseth Tovar at BofA, 212 East Main St in Visalia. She was absolutely wonderful!! She listened to my issues due to a scammer who must've had access to my checking
acct and 2 of my CC. Yara immediately and tiredlessly jumped into action. Yara assured me not to worry and comforted me. She was relentless in helping me. She went above her call of duty. I can't put into words how grateful I am, especially to her.
My experience was absolutely OUTSTANDING!
Whenever I walk into the bank I'm always greeted with a friendly smile, if it is at the window or safety deposit box. My needs are always met, mainly probably because of "Brandy" their manager who has also helped me several times before.
Thank you for being my trusted bank.

I’ve had the worst experience ever…

I’ve had the worst experience ever after being a customer with BOA for 12 years I’ve been scammed for a hotel I booked a month ago for $1000 nearly on the service from where I’ve been scammed is located all the way in Barcelona, Spain, and I did a dispute with Bank of America a month ago because I didn’t receive no confirmation number or reservation number only a voucher number which the hotel doesn’t accept or did he even ever hear about a voucher before so did it dispute online through my app waited the whole month just for them to deny my dispute. This is unacceptable. I work hard for my money so I called and spoke to a representative. They said the same thing they can’t do nothing about it. I have another account with KeyBank and never had this problem especially when you got the proof. I’m closing my account today with BOA. Advise everybody to go with KeyBank instead and they give you $200 to open an account with them

Unappreciated Customer of 26 Years

Customer of 26 years with $90,000 consumer credit that I have not used in 3 years. I requested a small business card and was given $8,000 credit. I then applied for a consumer card so I can get the perks. I was turned down.

Their phone tree is impossible

Their phone tree is impossible. Choices they offer for “more information” never match what I’m calling about. Just junk stuff can get from app or web. When I call it’s because of an issue I can’t resolve in the app. Getting to a person is so difficult. Frankly I’m looking for a bank that understands customers need a human some (most) of the time.

The absolute worst bank in the history…

The absolute worst bank in the history of banking in america. The automated phone service will get you punching holes in the wall when you're done. I can't believe they think this is a viable automated service for their customers. Unless of course they hate their customers. I am convinced they do. I've actually closed my account because of the automated service!. Stay away people you've been warned

I had a small business and personal Accounts and can't get a live person to help with a minor issue.

I had a small business and personal accounts with BofA. I retired in 2021 and the residuals for the business ended by the end of 2023. The business accounts were closed January 2024.
I had my business and personal accounts linked at BofA's website. Now when I log in to my account, the website defaults to BofA Business instead of BofA Personal. I have tried at least half a dozen times to have them unlinked so I just get my Personal Accounts. A customer service guy at a BofA branch tried and couldn't fix the issue. I have called multiple times for help on this, on hold for over an hour waiting for a live person. STILL not fixed, and I assume it would be something that would be fairly easy to do. It is extremely irritating, dealing with BofA Face-to-Face. It must be intentional for them, I guess.

I am still waiting an agent to answer…

I am still waiting for an agent to answer my call. It has now been almost 25 minutes and no one has answered. That is after I gave up earlier today after waiting 35 minutes and no one had answered. That followed earlier today when I left my number for them to call back and I finally got the call back after 45 minutes. The automated message said to push 1 when I was on the phone. I pushed 1 and it hung up on me.

Don’t bank with them

Well, it’s very impossible to give a zero but I give this bank a zero. Every time I call to talk to a person it takes hours to actually talk to somebody the longest time I’ve ever been on hold with this bank is 3 1/half hours the shortest time I’ve been on hold is 45 minutes. That is just ridiculous. I logged into my bank account on my work computer, and I logged in on my bank account on my parents computer. They have completely frozen my account I understand that you gotta be cautious about thieves, but when you text me and I say it’s me then everything should be OK but no, they have frozen my accounts and it has been frozen for five days now I can’t pay bills I can’t do anything once my bank has unfrozen it. I am moving my bank. I will never bank with this bank. As long as I live. It is the worst bank I’ve ever ever dealt with. And trying to talk to somebody is very impossible. Don’t bank at Bank of America.

⭐ 1/5

⭐ 1/5 — Very Unreliable When Traveling

Bank of America repeatedly blocked my credit card and wire transfers while I was traveling. No clear reason, no advance warning, and no simple email, text, or app message asking me to confirm that the transactions were mine.

I called, waited a long time to reach customer service, verified everything, and finally got the issue resolved. Then TWO DAYS LATER, they blocked me again.

I understand fraud prevention, but this is a terrible way to handle it. If something looks suspicious, send me an alert and let me confirm it. Don’t repeatedly cut off access to my own money just because I’m traveling.

After this experience, I don’t feel I can rely on Bank of America when I need access to my money most.

Bank of America has completely failed…

Bank of America has completely failed me in handling a $2,000 ATM deposit issue.

I deposited $2,000 at a Bank of America ATM on August 5. The money was not properly credited to my account. I reported the issue and opened a claim.

What followed has been unacceptable. Every time I have called, I have waited at least 45 minutes to speak with someone. After finally getting through, I have dealt with representatives who were dismissive, lacked urgency, and showed very little interest in actually resolving the problem.

This is not a minor customer-service inconvenience. This is $2,000 of my money. Yet I have been left to repeatedly call, wait, explain the situation, and chase Bank of America for answers.

A major financial institution should not require a customer to spend hours trying to get attention for a problem involving their own money. The combination of excessive wait times, poor communication, and the apparent lack of urgency from customer-service representatives is completely unacceptable.

I have now escalated the matter to the CFPB because Bank of America's own customer-service process has failed to resolve the issue.

I am leaving this review because customers deserve to know what happens when something goes wrong: 45+ minute waits, representatives who don't take ownership, and a customer left fighting for answers about $2,000 of their own money.

This has been an exceptionally poor customer-service experience, and Bank of America needs to do substantially better.

I applied for the new Royal Caribbean new Credit Card

I applied for the new Royal Caribbean Credit card, it was the Royal One, which came with several benefits including spending $2000 in the 1st 3 months gets you $300 rewards from RCL. Within 60 minutes i decided I wanted to upgrade to the Royal One Plus card which had better benefits including spending $3000 in the first 3 months gets you $700 in RCL rewards. After several months and spending well over $3000 I was told I did not qualify for either reward benefit. They found a loophole where the only one benefiting is Bank of America. I am not eligible for either reward. Needless to say I am very disappointed. Trying to reason with several people at Bank of America, they said I approved of these changes, which I did, verbally, but it was not made clear to me that not only do I forfeit the 1st reward I also forfeit the 2nd reward. Remember, I called BoA within 60 minutes to upgrade the card. I will never do business with Bank of America again and make sure you understand the fine print.
