Saw a couple of books that I was going to buy that are all roughly 100 years old and so quite expensive. Was happy to purchase 2 of these without question, but on the third I asked politely if they could take a photograph of the index page, which I know is about 4 or 5 pages long, so I could see if the gentlemen that I am researching are in the book before I buy it and mentioned one name that was of particular interest, but also mentioned I was after more than that name.
Sadly I received a very snotty reply saying they wouldn't do this as to prepare special pages would cost more than the value of the book! In other words, they couldn't be bothered! Yet they opened the book to see if that one particular name was in. It would take mere seconds to open the book, photograph the index and send and then make a sale, but no this is apparently too difficult. Due to this I will be seeking all 3 books at a competitor.
