Very disappointing experience. I was given a great quote, but once they finalized the insurance, the price jumped by almost $50 per month. After I signed, they called a week later saying I had to a... See more

Probably the shadiest underhanded…
Probably the shadiest underhanded company in the Canadian insurance market. They have unjust rate increases and withdraw funds at their leisure. Definitely don’t deal with this company in any capacity as they’re as crooked as they come
I purchased auto and tenant insurance
I purchased auto and tenant insurance.
So my auto insurance was canceled by them, they said it was due to non payment . But I purchased both auto and tenant together and my tenant insurance is still being taken out of my account.. they said they send me registered mail , I have not received it . And now they are saying I will need to pay the whole year upfront . This is not right as they still take my tenant insurance out of my bank every month. And I was never notified about anything! And now I have a cancelation on me and very hard to get insurance now . I need something done anout this matter
I was not aware I did not have auto coverage, I was not informed . This is unacceptable and what if there was an accident? This would have been delta with asap if I knew .

The iPhone App has Abysmal Availability
I suspect nobody at Belair Direct or at least the IT department has zero clue as to what it means to participate in electronic commerce. The app is always failing when you try and access anything like payment due dates, insurance cards or even coverages. The app is worthless with a capital W. It always says "something went wrong". I submitted this information to the development team and a developer answered if you could provide some details we can help. Seriously? How utterly stupid are they? I have an iPhone with all software up to date (iOS 26.5.2) and the app fails to connect to the back end 99% of the time. There is no other explanation one can provide other than this IT team needs to be led out the door.

Don't use these people if you're near death. Your loved ones will have a terrible time getting them to cancel your policy.
This company is the worst company I…
This company is the worst company I have ever dealt with. They bought out the company I was with which I was there over 20 years . They come along and it been nothing but a nightmare. Everything is ass backwards nobody knows what the other is doing . I have always paid monthly for years then they want a big chunk up front when I have never missed payment or cancelled insurance. And they increased my insurance as soon as my renewal came up Ian 63 with a perfect record and I am way over changed as well. So, once my next renewal comes up I am gone from this company. You want to hear something good I filled out a form to add house insurance they gave me a quote which is only good for 30 days and their process for this is 60 days. How does this make sense. My advice is steer clear of this company if your smart.

Was looking to change insurance companies, Got a quote for $162 with a College Alumni discount. Call in at the number provided and was slammed withj a quote that was over $100 more than shown and significantly more than I pay now with my current provider. Very disappointed with the misleading quote.

jacked up my premiums by 60% in the past 3 years without any material change in my circumstances or records.
my current renewal premium increase was a whopping 25% for no reason. I canceled the renewal immediately. This company baits people to sign on and then applies unjustified rate increases every year.
Please learn from my experience and read their consumer feedback. I got a new policy on the same terms but 55% cheaper!!

Im thinking of taking them to court after misleading me on my car accident. Total loss of my vehicle thanks to their brutal communication and advice. Got 0$. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.
My experience with BelairDirect was…
My experience with BelairDirect was extremely disappointing:
I had comprehensive automobile insurance coverage: theft, vandalism, rental car, etc. Despite this, when my vehicle was stolen and vandalized while it was under the responsibility of my storage company, which was also my mechanic, BelairDirect refused to compensate me.
This incident cost me more than $2,200. A criminal complaint was even filed with the police.
Beyond the refusal to compensate me, what disappointed me the most was the quality of the customer service. After several weeks of waiting, dealing with an incompetent claims adjuster and an arrogant supervisor, I was simply informed that nothing would be covered.
I then filed a formal complaint. I spent hours gathering evidence, photos, documents, and preparing a detailed report of more than 10 pages explaining the facts, as well as the problems I encountered with the handling of my claim. Despite all this work, the final response remained the same: no compensation, no reimbursement.
It makes you wonder why you pay for comprehensive insurance if, in a situation like this, you have to go through a real ordeal only to end up with nothing.
BelairDirect (under Intact insurance umbrella) generates annual revenues of more than $26 billion$.
In the end, I felt that I wasn't paying for a service when I truly needed it, but simply helping to fill BelairDirect's coffers.
I wanted to share my experience. This testimony is based on real events that I personally experienced. I simply encourage you to do your research and think twice before choosing BelairDirect for your car or any insurance!!!
They find little ways to make money off of you.
I had a terrible experience with them, do not recommend anyone get Belair Insurance. For my contract renewal, somehow, my credit card payment was declined, but I did not know that. Because when I logged into my account I could download my proof of insurance, contract, everything, and it said insured/covered until the following year, there were no red flags anywhere, so I did not know there was anything wrong with my account. They said they sent me one mail, but it didn't get delivered, and I only got it when I could go to the Uniprix to pick it up. Right now, when I am speaking to them on the phone and made the next payment to renew, I instantly got an email saying there was a modification to my policy, but I received no emails about my payment getting declined. If I had received even one email I would have known there was something wrong right away. But with this current payment, they are making me pay an NSS fee of 45$, which they say they can absolutely not waive and there is nothing they can do. The customer service rep said all the right things, "I understand your frustration. I am doing my due diligence. I am on the customer's side and I am trying to see if there is anything I can do to help you, but unfortunately there isn't, this is our policy." So at the end of the day, quite useless. Even worse, when he told me the total I have to pay he didn't even mention that this includes a fee. If I hadn't explicitly asked, "there are no fees, right?" I wouldn't even have known. Also, when I first got the contract last year, they also apparently gave me a discount for 'automerit' but then i didn't use it so charged me for it, again without letting me know. When I bought the contract, the agent did not mention anything about this 'automerit' at all, and later I randomly see a charge from Belair, which I had to ask about when I was talking to this other agent about this NSS fee thing. I am in a rush, so getting it for this year, but going to cancel as soon as I can and get something else.
I NEVER write reviews… but I had to
I rarely write reviews, but after speaking with Janice at Belairdirect, I felt I had to.
I found out my home insurance policy had been cancelled after what became a perfect storm of a bank error, crossed wires, and a misunderstanding about my payment. I had already spoken with an online chat representative who gave me no hope and directed me to a sister insurance company to apply for a new policy. I was devastated and honestly felt sick thinking about what this could mean for my family.
Then I called and got Janice.
From the very beginning, she treated me like a person instead of just another policy number. She listened to my entire situation without judgment and understood that this wasn’t a case of someone simply ignoring their payments. It was an unfortunate series of events that spiraled into something much bigger than it ever should have.
Instead of taking the easy route and telling me there was nothing that could be done, Janice took the time to investigate further. She spoke with her supervisors, advocated for me, and genuinely wanted to see if there was a way to help. Throughout the call she was kind, compassionate, reassuring, and even shared a few laughs with me. At one point I joked that maybe I shouldn’t cook dinner that night just in case I accidentally set the house on fire without insurance, and she laughed with me. That small moment of kindness meant more than she probably realizes because she helped ease what had been one of the most stressful days I’ve had in a long time.
When she came back and told me my policy could be reinstated, she sounded just as excited and relieved as I was. You could tell she genuinely cared about the outcome, and that is incredibly rare.
Janice didn’t have to go the extra mile, but she did. Because of her persistence, compassion, and willingness to look deeper instead of accepting the first answer, she saved my family from what felt like an absolute nightmare.
Belairdirect is incredibly fortunate to have someone like Janice representing your company. I hope she receives the recognition she deserves because exceptional customer service like hers is something people never forget.
Thank you, Janice. I truly wish I could give you a hug.
Absolutely the worst insurance company…
Absolutely the worst insurance company we have ever encountered. Stay away from Belair / Intact.
Brutally painful experience
Brutally painful experience, right away we were assigned an agent who “was away on vacation” when we needed to make a claim. No one followed up in a timely manner. We updated all photos invoices on our end. We kept getting the run around when calling in, (house insurance would say that’s the car insurances responsibility and vice versa). Last straw was after calling in and voicing my opinion the agent said “your adjuster is away, they’ll get back to you in 24-48 hrs”. Doesn’t she magically call me back 2 hours later with all the info I had already said to the previous agent. Leila was rude and defensive, I couldn’t get a word in as she was cutting me off constantly saying “you don’t understand” and “the files been closed”, that she wouldn’t talk to me because I’m not on the policy, (it’s my wife and I). Meanwhile every time I called in I gave my name and policy number and I was able to get through just fine. We left off taking a major hit and will taking all our insurance business elsewhere.

The first few calls were extremely frustrating but the last call with Brenda, was amazing. She did an incredible job of helping me and navigating the system for me for changing from MB insurance to AB insurance. I was beyond frustrated with my experience and it’s Bélair but it was the cheapest so I continued. Brenda basically spent all day trying to figure things out for me and at the end of the day, she came through! So happy and relieved.
No Support from Belairedirect
I have been a client of Belairedirect since 2004. Recently, l missed the renewal date for our home insurance as l did not remember seeing the renewal email. Belairdirect cancelled my policy as l would expect. However, l still had both cars insured with them and when l attempted to reinstate the home insurance after l noticed my error, they refused. They have a policy that states they will not insure an uninsured home. No exceptions. How stupid is that? I insured my home and autos the same day with TD minutes after canceling my remaining auto policies with Belairedirect. The number one thing l learned is that this company does not care about it’s customers or customer loyalty.

Web site for damage claims was excellent and easy to use. Office staff members were very polite and easy to deal with on the phone.
The only problem I can see is that the insurance adjuster assigned to handle my damage claim seem to lack experience in the building restoration matters.

Very un professional, no consideration for others, don't care about fraud just money.
