Terrible customer service at an exceptionally bad time

Booked a night in one of the spa rooms £300 a night. Unfortunately my son lost his unborn baby with only 3 weeks to go before we were due to meet him. Complications with the cord had cut off his oxygen supply. We are all devastated and trying to unite as a family to deal with this. In the circumstances a luxury night at a hotel is the last thing on our minds so I had no alternative but to cancel. The email I received back was callous and unsympathetic not even a sorry to hear such sad news, I was told that I could not have a refund due to the Terms and Conditions!!!! Its not like my unborn grandson planned to die 2 weeks before he was due to be born!!!! Good grief cant you see past "Terms and Conditions" under certain circumstances. Absolutely disgusting

Got no receipt and customer service doesn’t answer.

I booked a stay which automatically drawn of my creditcard by stripe, BW’s payment system. When I asked for a receipt, customer service pointed out to the hotel which should be responsible for that. The hotel on the other hand, can’t do next to nothing with “stripe” and redirected to BW customer service.

I contacted them again but they simply does not answer anymore.
Made a request at BW homepage and guess what, they don’t answer either.

As a Diamond select customer I would have thought I would get some more help, but probably it’s only about the money, not the customer.

A group of 22

A group of 22 arrived at Best Western Hotel in Newmarket for an evening meal, we have nothing but praise, the food was delicious and plentiful, the staff polite and attentive, Service was lead by Sarah, who ensured the evening was enjoyable for all, the call buttons on the tables, meant ordering another drink was convenient and allowed the conversation to flow. Excellent evening thank you.

Extremely Disappointing Experience

Extremely Disappointing Experience – No Accountability from Best Western

We booked three rooms at the Best Western in Dodgeville, IL for an overnight stay on September 27. Upon arrival, we were immediately alarmed to see multiple mattresses lined up outside against an old container. This raised serious concerns about cleanliness and the potential presence of bed bugs.

We spoke with the front desk clerk, who claimed they were “remodeling.” However, there was no visible evidence of remodeling anywhere else on the property. One member of our group has an autoimmune condition, and due to the potential health risks, we could not in good conscience stay at the hotel.

We informed the clerk of our concerns and were told that only the manager could make decisions about refunds. Despite being promised follow-up, the manager never contacted us. We reached out to Best Western corporate, only to be told we were still being charged for all three rooms—a total loss of around $600.

On October 14, we made one final attempt by messaging Best Western CEO Larry Cuculic via LinkedIn, but we never received any response.

This has been a deeply frustrating and disappointing experience, not only because of the condition of the property, but also because of the lack of accountability and customer care at every level of the organization. We feel compelled to share our experience so others are aware of the risks.

Think twice before booking with Best Western.

Great location / staff amazing

Hotel is Thames Riviera Hotel, Maidenhead.
Pro’s - Great location overlooking the Thames, Mainly refurbished. Large executive room and comfortable bed, All you could need. Staff so very polite and helpful - especially Shreya Roy. Food is delicious and plentiful. Will visit again.
Only cons are no lift as old building. Also we couldn’t put the air conditioning off so it was a bit chilly. Would much prefer radiator / plug in heater. Also no main bedroom centre light.

Best Western Raffle Inn in Anaheim

Best Western Raffle Inn in Anaheim, CA. Very dirty place. Never saw anything like that, especially so close to Disneyland. On Priceline, best western pictures shows a nice hotel, clean and organized. I arrived there on Sep 8, 2025. Best western was under renovation and was terribly dirty all around. When we went to the room they assigned for us it was dirty, smelling mold and urine. Because of the bad smell we check the mattresses and found horrible spots on them, also having holes on it.
I left the best western and got reservations on the hotel north of this stinky place for the same price.
I start conversation with Priceline for refund. I bought a non refundable price but Priceline didn't care about my problem. They say they contacted the best western management but they did not. I needed to call a month later to ask about this problem then they sent me a letter 2 weeks later that best western cannot reimburse me. It was an unpleasant experience with best western and Priceline.

Confirmed. Pre-checked in. Arrived--hotel was closed and abandoned.

My wife, our two small dogs, and I meticulously planned a trip from Arizona to Washington with three Best Western stops...Henderson, NV; Wells, NV; and Baker City, OR. Henderson went fine. But in Wells, NV, disaster struck: despite having a valid confirmation number and even completing pre-check-in the day before, we arrived to find the hotel completely closed for repairs.

No notice. No warning. Nothing. Best Western’s own corporate rep was shocked, unable to reach the property, and admitted she didn’t know it was shut down. Yet Best Western still took my reservation, sent me confirmations, and let me check in online, for a hotel that wasn’t even open.

Imagine checking in for a flight, printing your boarding pass, arriving at the airport, only to discover the airline no longer exists. That’s exactly what this felt like.

This isn’t a small inconvenience. It’s a betrayal of trust. When you’re traveling long distances, especially with pets, a confirmed reservation should mean peace of mind, not the sinking feeling that your hotel may be a phantom property.

I can only hope tomorrow’s stop isn’t another non-existent hotel. But fellow travelers, consider this your warning: Best Western’s “guarantee” is not a guarantee. Proceed with extreme caution.

Hotel Cancelled when we arrived!

We booked a room at the Best Western Daytona Speedway in Florida via Booking.com on 6th August 2024 for the 14th May 2025 - 19th May 2025. I later changed this booking by one day to 15th May 2025 – 19th May 2025. I made payment on the 9th May 2025, which was processed successfully.
When we arrived at the hotel on the 15th May, the reception clerk seemed to have trouble finding our booking. He took my passport and still seemed to be having a problem. He then said he’d found two bookings, both of which had been cancelled. I did not cancel a booking I required and had paid for! We were in the USA from the UK for a music festival which was rather expensive with no hotel room. There was no apologies or attempts to help other than they may be able to find a room for one night, but that was it. They told me I needed to call Booking.com.
I called them and eventually got though and spoke to a member of staff who told me (after a lengthy conversation and call back) that the hotel (Best Western) were responsible for cancelling my room. By now, we’d had to find an additional $1620 for another hotel. I’d had no refunds.
I’ve since left Best Western a review on both Booking.com and Tripadvisor, to which they’ve responded by saying I cancelled the room, on the 9th May 2025! Why would I cancel a room I paid for that day? If I indeed did (which I didn’t), why didn’t they refund me at that point?! I did not cancel the room, I paid for it. They took the money.
So I’ve been back to Booking.com since because I’ve received emails saying “Good news, the hotel has agreed to waive your cancellation fees”! Booking.com has also sent me an email saying I cancelled the room on the 19th May. Four days AFTER I tried to check in!
I’ve made a complaint on Booking.com, which the hotel hasn’t responded to as far as I understand. I feel so let down and out of pocket because we paid for an Uber from Orlando to Daytona Beach and missed the first night of the festival. Not to mention being in a different country with nowhere to stay! Then paying an additional $1620 for accommodation elsewhere. Now, after years of being a loyal customer, the experience was so stressful I do not feel I can rely on Booking.com so will not be using them or Best Western.

Stayed at Best Western in Kilmarnock

Stayed at Best Western in Kilmarnock, Virginia on 7/26/25. Booked two rooms. First room - bathroom floor was dirty with hair and some crumbs. Otherwise the room was clean and bed comfortable. Second room- bed comfortable but found a roach on the night stand. There were no washcloths left in both rooms although clean bath towels were there. Waffle machines in dining room were broken or not cooking them completely. Orange juice was watered down but eggs and cheese were okay. Sausages were not browned and looked like they had been added while they were frozen to the pan.
Although this is the only hotel in the town, things could be better.

I have been an Airbnb/VRBO host for over 6 years. I have hosted over 2200 guests in those 6 years. I have earned SUPER HOST recognition every quarter of the past 6 years. I have to say this is one of the worst Best Western hotels I have stayed in. This was the Best Western Dixon Davis, CA.The staff was rude, the bathroom was dirty. It has really gone down hill in the last few years. Maybe it is new owners. The manager is very un-professional. It is not a hospitable hotel. Very unaccommodating.

Sure stay plus North in Sacramento California

I always stay at your Sure Stay Plus North in Sacramento,CA at least one day a month sometimes up to 3 days a month. Every time I go they're very friendly and very helpful with me. There's a younger Indian girl who was a supervisor that works at front that is really wonderful and friendly and helpful. Also there's a lady that works the desk named Tracy he goes out of her way to help people out as well. I have been staying there for years now and I've never been disappointed. Except for the homeless that like to hang around and cause havoc sometimes but that's not the hotel's fault. They're always on top of everything and make sure everything goes smoothly for their guests. And for this I appreciate it very much. Recently I had a death in the family to happen all very suddenly and they were wonderful to extend my visit for me while I went through this hard time. I would like to express my gratitude and my thanks for this because it really meant a lot. The staff is really nice the maids are very nice the groundskeepers are very nice and they've never been mean at all. They've gone out of their way to be friendly and helpful anyway they could. Occasionally the line might be long when checking in but they do their best to get you through as quickly as possible. I've been very happy when going there. And I will continue to go there and I will continue to give very good reviews. And I just wanted to say thank you again. My visit this time with them was from June 28th to June 30th.

Old and rundown

We stayed at the Best Western in Vicksburg, MS and was sorely disappointed by the condition of the room. It smelled musty and damp. I ended up having to spray the room with Fabreeze just to mask the smell. Even the front lobby area seemed very damp and musty. I will say that their breakfast was very good and the dining area was clean.

Be very careful when staying at The Connaught Hotel & Spa in Bournemouth

Please be very careful when staying at The Connaught Hotel and Spa, Bournemouth.
Our room at this hotel was entered by a person using a staff key card and a substantial number of valuables and items of clothing were stolen. The burglar has been apprehended and jailed, but we are still waiting for recompense from the hotel 5 months later. There has been no explanation as to how the staff key was accessed despite the hotel confirming that this was used to enter our room, when the housekeeper was at home.
We have had no apology from anyone, and Best Western, whose branding is on the hotel refuse to get involved.
It is deeply concerning to think that one is not safe to even leave clothing in a room at this hotel as no responsibility for its disappearance will be accepted by the management, should it be stolen in this manner.
An extremely distressing and ongoing experience for my wife and me.
