SKY - ruthless, unscrupulous and tricky
Was a SKY customer for several years BUT switched to another supplier when monthly charges escalated enormously. My new supplier initially called them to arrange switch-over, after which I contacted them to confirm that we were cancelling the triple-play service was subjected to the usual heavy pressure sales script. Nonetheless went through with the cancellation. I noted, however, after a couple of months, that whilst the telephony/broadband service had been cancelled they were still billing for TV (my fault I know for not being sufficiently dilligent BUT in my defense they are supposed to be a large bluechip PLC as against some 'back street second hand car sales outlet'). I called them to highlight the billing error but was met with a 'smug' customer service rep who said I hadn't cancelled properly (ie I had to cancel the TV service totally separately), that they wouldn't AND I couldn't do anything about it. After telephone calls/letters I eventually escalated the issue to OFCOM and the Ombudsman AND through the help of my bank recovered my monies. Nonetheless, if ever I shake hands with a SKY sales person in the future, rest assured I'll make certain to 'count my fingers'.
