Great staff but gym toilets need attention
I've been a member here for a while and overall it's a solid gym with a good range of equipment and facilities. I'm glad to see it's currently undergoing a refurbishment, and I'm hoping this brings some much-needed additions to the gym section — specifically a Smith machine, more cable stations (these get very busy at peak times and there's often a wait), and more dumbbells and kettlebells across the weight range.
The gym floor itself is clean and usually tidy, which I appreciate. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the toilets — particularly the gender-neutral ones on the second floor next to the gym. They're often dirty, and because they include showers with no active ventilation, they're frequently left steamy with water pooling on the floor. This really lets the place down and I'd love to see it addressed, ideally as part of the refurbishment.
On a more positive note, the staff are consistently helpful. Several of them like Layla, Hamza, Karen and Darren are very knowledgeable and always happy to offer advice on exercises and proper form, which I really appreciate and don't take for granted.
Fingers crossed the refurbishment addresses the equipment gaps and the bathroom issues.

I have been a member for a while

I wanted to say how exceptional I have found Hamza’s circuit classes to be. He thinks about the arc of the week, his attention to technique has surpassed any other instructors, and he really cares and motivates everyone in the class.
He is a real asset and I hope he’s back on circuits soon!

My first few months

Hamza Has Made My Fitness Journey a Joy
I have been a member of the gym for over a year, and I particularly love using the gym at Clissold because Hamza has made my exercise journey such a joy.
His encouragement in the classes has been amazing. He is very detailed and always tailors exercises to benefit each individual, with a strong focus on building strength.
When I first joined the gym, I had straps on both knees and a weak shoulder. Hamza always makes a point of asking before each class if anyone has an injury or any limitations. He then makes sure to incorporate suitable exercises that help build strength safely and effectively.
Thanks to his guidance and encouragement, my knees and shoulder have become much stronger. I always look forward to attending his classes because I know I will be challenged, supported and encouraged.
Hamza is an excellent trainer, and I am very grateful for the positive impact he has had on my fitness journey. It will be great to see him back on the morning circuit classes.

Leisure Centre Review
I’ve been a regular at this centre for almost 3 years now. One of the positives of my experience here is the warm, friendly, welcoming environment cultivated by the staff, fitness instructors and personal trainers in the gym. I’d like to highlight Hamza in particular who has been a real gem and is always on hand to help and always providing a friendly face. I can recall many instances where he has given me useful tips on my exercises.

On our first day
On our first day at the center when we ask questions to staff, they just plainly said no and does not even give effort to answer or find out. Just said “i dont know!” And ran off. That was not really helpful. They dont even have any idea if the used rackets on the reception are for rent or not. Disappointing.
Group Cycle also did not have music, it would have been helpful if we were informed ahead of time, so we could’ve rebook some other time.

I’ve been coming to Better Gym Clissold for a while, and I really wanted to take the time to recognise Hamza for the excellent work he does.
Hamza is one of those people who genuinely makes a difference. He is always friendly, respectful, and approachable, and he makes the effort to speak to members and make everyone feel welcome. Whether he is helping a member, having a quick conversation, or simply making sure everything is running smoothly, he always does it with a positive attitude.
What I particularly appreciate is that Hamza doesn’t just focus on the obvious parts of his role. He works hard to keep the gym floor clean, tidy, and safe, and you can see that he takes real pride in maintaining a good environment for everyone.
His hard work can sometimes go unnoticed because he quietly gets on with what needs to be done, but as a regular member, I definitely notice and appreciate it.
Hamza is a credit to Better Gym Clissold and deserves recognition for his dedication, professionalism, and the positive atmosphere he helps create. Keep up the amazing work, Hamza! 👏🏽💪🏽

Good gym with good staff
Overall, the gym has almost everything you need for now. However, just need bit more transformation. Heard from staff that the gym will be expanding the gym area with improved swimming facilities, so thats a good news for us, weight lifters. The gym has anti-bacterial wipes and tissues for hygiene purpose. Thats very gd! Some other gyms dont even have basic wipes.
Staff Hamza, Layla and Bilal are good. Layla and Hamza has always been approachable. Hamza has corrected my lat machine pull ups and even supported me with incline bench press ( many females will avoid that due to fear) however Hamza is always very supportive with gym fitness. I have personally seen him training young boys which s positive. Layla also very friendly and gives supportive induction classes. I think we need staff like them to create positivity amongst gym goers. Gym can get busy around 5pm to 7pm but hopefully with gym refurbishment, we have more machines to train with. Thanks Clissold.

My experience at Clissold Leisure…
My experience at Clissold Leisure Centre was wonderful. The staff were very friendly, and the facilities were clean and well-equipped. I would like to give special thanks to Hamza for his help in the new sports hall section. He is a professional, always dedicated, and he is always friendly with people and customers, and he is always smiling. In addition, my work started well at the centre, and I feel comfortable and continuously supported. I also thank the reception team, as they are always smiling and their faces are bright. I’ve always found the staff at the gym/leisure centre to be really friendly, welcoming and helpful. Layla, Bilal and Hamza are all lovely people who are easy to talk to and always seem happy to help whenever you need anything. They really do make the place feel more welcoming.
I’d especially like to mention Hamza. He’s always friendly, approachable and goes out of his way to help people. He has a great attitude, is brilliant with the members and is someone you can have a proper conversation with. In my opinion, he’s a real asset to the gym.
All three are a credit to the centre, and I hope their hard work and the positive difference they make doesn’t go unnoticed. Staff like these are a big part of what makes people enjoy coming back.

I’ve really enjoyed my experience at this gym. The atmosphere is great, the facilities are well maintained, and there’s always a welcoming and friendly environment.
