The management doesn’t seem to care about the rink and facilities.
Ice often badly resurfaced, sometimes it’s not even resurfaced at all before the first session in the morning. Occasionally the ice is nice, so I don’t see why this can’t be done everyday.
Female toilet is dirty. One of the soap dispensers broken for months and nobody fixes it.
Skaters are allowed to skate in an unsafe way, very fast speed, with headphones on and mobile phone in one hand going very close to other people.

Gym used to be great until Kings Hall closed and now apparently every single person in Hackney uses this gym. It’s impossible to be able to use the equipment you need, made worse by people taking 10 minute “rests” between sets and scrolling on their phones. Bring back Covid style slot booking please!!!

The Lee Valley Ice Centre seems to be run efficiently, no problems and the teacher seems good

Was good until recently incorrectly issued my disabled car with PCN as staff wrote my registration down wrong and my children's memberships won't work.

Centre upkeep & Ice Coaches - 5*
Let hugely down by freestyle/hockey boys using the public ice all day every day to whizz around at crazy speeds, dangerously weave in & out of skaters who clearly are beginners & learning to skate, plus people having lessons & causing accidents to happen.
They also wear headphones, while looking at their phones, so have no clue of their surroundings.
I got knocked down by a kid of about 15 clumsily going backwards at speed super close to the side rails. I wasn't moving, so luckily didn't sustain any injuries, but was more concerned for a girl of about 4/5yrs having a lesson maybe a meter away, as that would've been another story.
This was during the day around 2pm on a weekday - the rink had maybe 30 people on it & several taking lessons, that were struggling to find safe zones to practice.
Regulars have told me these guys have a cat & mouse kind of game, dodging in between people, resulting knocking skaters over. Recently there was an accident where someone had to be taken to hospital & left blood on the ice.
As the centre I'd be concerned how liable they'd be for a person's safety if a serious accident did occur, as there is never any supervision on the public ice apart from at peak times.
Honestly such a shame this rink's reputation is let down by a select few who actively want to put others at risk.
It's great to see kids getting into a sport & finding a community, but the public ice needs to have regular supervision (there is none) & select sessions where freestylers can cause their havoc together.

There're always dangerous free style skaters in hockey skates skating recklessly and close to other people at public sessions. I have seen hockey skaters skating backwards very fast and looking at their phones; and doing hockey stop right next to other people, shaving all the snow onto them. I have complaint before but nothing seems to have been done. Staff don't seem to be enforcing any rules.
Hockey freestyle skating should have seperate sessions. So the public sessions are inclusive for people practicing and enjoying skating.
The ice rink and facility are nice but it's unpleasant and dangerous to skate among these reckless and inconsiderate freestyle skaters.

Great centre, lovely friendly staff.
Ice skates for hire seem to be good, although we have our own.
Cafe is good, would prefer slightly more food options on bank holidays, as larger menu is only available on weekends.
Only criticism is the ice hockey skaters during public skating need to be managed better, as they skate too fast & far too close to others. They are going to cause a major accident if they aren't careful due to their total lack of consideration to others. Staff need to be more proactive responding to them & getting them off the ice when they don't consider others on the ice.

Update : The venue's admin support is a nightmare. I have cancelled my direct debit because of travel plans but have another three lessons already paid for. This was confirmed to me in writing but now they are insisting I am not entitled to those lessons. So I have paid for two months up front, and only got six lessons. A complete swizz but so far they are not backing down.
Thanks Charmaine, but it is your customer services team that is the problem. What they have done is in clear breach of your own T&Cs, and I have written today ( 3 April) saying that unless by 2pm today they confirm in writing that will reverse their mistake, I will not embarrass myself by turning up for tonight's ( paid for) lesson, as no doubt they will not let me skate. The whole thing has become a joke.

Excellent rink and great ice skating lessons. The coaches are fantastic and supportive, and I couldn’t be happier with how much I’m progressing.
Improvements on how the rink is managed during increasingly popular public and disco sessions are necessary, however. Staff don’t enforce the rink’s own publicised rules, allowing speeding, risky overtaking and a dangerous mix of very able free styling skaters and people who are struggling on the ice together with people with intermediate abilities trying to practice their skills. Public sessions separated by ability or skating style could be a solution.
Added after ice centre reply: Thanks so much for your swift reply! Looking forward to ice skating more at Lee Valley!

Lee Valley Ice rink is spacious and clean! My boys enjoyed it. The workers are all professional and friendly. Josh was amazing. He was in the ice rink as well with his hi-vis on and he helped my boy when he was crying and was so patient with him and eventually he started trying to skate on his own. So lovely! I saw Josh helping others as well. Such a nice person.

I contacted them online about joining but had no response. I went personally to the centre and joined. After a couple of weeks someone got back to me asking where I wanted to join. Too late, although when I updated them they did tell me the centre would help me with the next issue - a parking ticket. I also got a £100 parking ticket when parking is meant to be free if you are a customer and there is nowhere else to go from that car park. I had asked on turning up to my first lesson if I had to Register or Check-in anywhere and was told no. Turns out you DO have to register your car on a terminal that is on a counter that is closed and in a dark corner at the time my lessons are going on, so I didnt see it either and got a ticket. I went in the next week and asked about the free parking which was confirmed. I was told to email in the ticket and they would sort it out with the parking company, which I did. I got an email a few days later telling me I had to sort it out myself. I have appealed to the Parking company but Better could not have been less helpful knowing they did not advise me about the terminal when I asked, and it is out of the way so you dont see it when you go in. You have to know where it is which as a new member, I didnt. An appeal would carry far more weight if the centre confirmed i was a customer and admitted their omission. Instead, I have been left to sort out their mistake on my own and hope the parking company accept my evidence of membership and that parking is free if you are a customer, but they only have my word for it instead of Better's. I have essentially got no help when i needed it, 2/2 times, from Better Customer Services.
UPDATE: following response. Response is a work of fiction. Its a shame you can't post photos here. There are no clear signs about parking, and in any case, I specifically asked the question - do I have to register on arrival and I was told no. The correct answer was yes. I also engaged with management at the centre who said to email in the parking ticket and they would confirm to the parking company I was a customer there. The eventual reply to my joining also told me that centre management would sort it out. The reply to that email was to sort it out myself. Zero customer service. I have to sort out your mistake alone. Zero stars but that rating isn't possible here. Still not offering to help. Need I say more?!
