After a lot of research we bought a Bionica F84 Supermill

After a lot of research we ordered an F84 Supermill as our first CNC router and with a new lockdown looming, the guys managed to bring our order forward and installed it in time, together with onsite training. We’re now up and running straight away and looking forward to now creating parts for our camper conversions. The build quality of the machine is superb and being able to control it straight from the laptop with Mach3 and adjust parameters as needed is working really well.

A rehash of Marchant Dice

This company is just a new version of Marchant Dice - You only have to look at the numerous threads CNCZone to see how generally unhappy customers are with them.

For my own machine, the Z Axis leadscrew is axially supported only by the stepper motor through a springy coupler. I had been wondering why my height control was so poor, but after stripping it down I found that it was down to this terrible design. I contacted Bionica Systems and even offered to pay for an upgrade, but they didn't bother responding.

Avoid, this company do not know the basics of CNC machine design.

Ghost company

Something must have happened to this company in the last few months, because what happened to me was in complete contrast with the online reviews. I was very excited to read the positive feedbacks, and I was getting used to the idea of purchasing their 4x8 CNC router. I sent them my first enquire on June 11th 2019, I called everyday for a week, and then again every two days or so. Until today (July 31st 2019) I haven't been able to speak to one person at their company.

When you try to contact Bionica Systems, you get diverted to a call-center where there is always someone new to asnwer. After a while I started writing their names for fun. I spoke to 9 different people, they all give you the same exact template answer: the person I am looking for is busy with another client at the moment, but he will return my call as soon as possible. It has been almost two months now, and I haven't spoken to anyone yet.

At one point the director of the company texted me that he was on holidays, and unfortunately he got sick on his way back. I was very sorry for him. He promised that he would have taken contact with me as soon as possible. This was last week.

Maybe they are overloaded with orders, maybe it's something else, but until now it has been a good example of incompetence and a complete waste of time.

Good company to work with!

Really good company to work with. Very accommodating when we visited their office in Devon with Cody giving us a run down of the software and machine. We purchased one of the 10 x 5 ProMill Machines which got delivered and installed in a decent time and have been using it to cut large jobs from wardrobes to drinks coasters!

Cody goes above and beyond to help you out should you have any issues as he offers advice, recommendations and general help usually within the hour! We're on the opposite side of England and he has no hesitations about coming down to help us out if there's ever an issue with the machine with spare parts also readily available. He builds and knows the machines inside out which is always a perk when youre asking him questions! Would certainly recommend the company if youre looking for more of a personal approach to CNC systems.

NEVER BELIEVE THEM!!!

You should NEVER order from them!
Before we paid, they were very responsive on emails. Once we paid, they never replied our email, and rejected all our calls for more than two year already. They have never delivered the machine.
Here is the full story:-
We are an architecture studio from Hong Kong. We ordered a 4’ x 8’ CNC machine from Bionica Systems Ltd on 13 July, 2018 to be shipped to Hong Kong, and paid GBP 13,090 as the deposit. Bionica System, represented by the company director at all times, has promised to ship the machine to Hong Kong in 4 to 6 weeks, i.e. by end of August 2018. On 26 July, 2018, They emailed us saying that the machine would be ready for dispatching in one week. On 16 August, 2018, They emailed us that the machine was finished and ready for dispatchment. However, we have never heard from them again.
Since then, we have emailed and called them many times, but they have NEVER responded. The phone number directs to an answering company that only takes your number and name which goes to nowhere. We also requested a full refund. Only then they responded once saying there are no refunds on any purchase which was NEVER stated in any contracts nor mentioned in emails.
If anyone is reading this and consider buying anything from Bionica systems for outside UK. DON’T! We have a full proof of every email and document showing Bionica Systems is a TRAP AND LIAR.

Great service and a great system

Thank you to everyone at Bionica especially James and Cody. The machine was installed quicker than we hoped and is now working for our business. The whole service has been really great. Much appreciated.

SuperMill CNC Package, Extractor and Vacuum Bed

After some months working with the machine, we are satisfied with its perfomance.
They came very early in the morning and did a quick and clean installation.
I would be more satisfied if we had done a real cut instead of doing it in the air, but at least they showed that the machine worked.
Cody has been always kind and attentive to our questions and doubts via telephone.
I don´t give them 5 stars for various reasons:
They didn´t bring enough rubber seal for the vacum bed and I had to spent 180€ on a local store buying it.
They didn't install the two motors of the vacum bed, and the tube they brought didn´t fit with the pvc pipes of the bed, so I had to buy it for myself.
One of the endstop was loose in the electronic box, causing problems when homing. After soldering, the problem was fixed.
Despite this little issues, we are happy now with our machine. We've done works on 3d, 2d, hard wood and plywood without any problems.
I could recommend bionica systems!

I discovered Bionica systems via…

I discovered Bionica systems via Instagram having spent months looking for suitable machinery for our new project including a visit to a Chinese manfacturer by a colleague whilst in China. Difficult and expensive with no CE approval and no support in Europe or the UK. For me Bionica was the lottery win! I did have initial concerns about the torsional rigidity of the machines from the photographs but as soon as I walked into the Bionica premises, as an engineer, the question was unnecessary. This equipment is a perfect example of exquisite contemporary design and very competitively priced. We visited James and the crew in North Devon on the 11th of July, placed an order for two special project machines to my own specification the following day with a tight delivery schedule requested. James accomodated all of my requests and pulled out all of the stops to meet the schedule. As promised we took delivery and installation of custom built F84 Supermill and desktop Promill A2 machines on the 26th of July.

Bionica Systems are a specialist company with a very flexible attitude in terms of special projects and satisfying client specifications, however, professional advice is offered in terms of stretching the envelope, as is my inclination. Cody, the technical and engineering Guru offered excellent advice and reined me in, particularly on the extent of the Z axis. He spent some hours with my technical consultant and between James and Cody we had decided to purchase two machines before departure from our first meeting.

The quality of Bionica Systems personal approach, custom builds within their Special Projects and programme and cooperation for manufacture on my tight schedule is outstanding.

British manufacturing and design at it’s best. Well done to James, Cody, and all of your staff. Triple M Design Ltd is a very happy client!

Excellent service!

Excellent service!

Our machine which we purchased a few years ago now, had sudden failure which is not surprising given the hammering it receives from us.
The team at Bionica despatch one of their support guys within hours of my initial email and by the end of the day our machine was up and running.

I can't fault the service and the machine is extremely robust. We have asked Bionica to upgrade our system which I expect will be carried out with in typical responsive and professional manner.

Thanks guys!

Our second time using these guys - would recommend to anyone

We have just bought our second CNC machine from these guys. The first time James drove to our factory and helped finalise exactly what we would require.

Once the build was complete they personally delivered the machine, it arrived undamaged and promptly and Cody and another engineer set everything up for us and train our staff on the machine and software. They took the time to do everything possible to help my staff get everything up and running asap.

We will continue to use Bionica going forward and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a bespoke high end CNC machine from a company that offers a friendly, personal and professional service.

A terrible experience and lamentable customer service

My experience of this company has been truly terrible and their customer service unacceptable. As the owner of an A4 mill from MDL (the former name of the business) I decided to purchase an A3 ProMill, but had no experience of Bionica Systems. My original order was placed on 3 April 2018 and full payment was made before manufacture would take place and a promised delivery schedule of 2 weeks was agreed. 3 months later I am still awaiting replacement parts for the incomplete machine. Multiple delays of promised personal consolidated delivery with other customers, resulted in eventual delivery by a national pallet truck carrier. The spindle cooling pump was damaged during transit due to it only being fixed to the machine with sticky velcro. Other components ordered were missing from the delivery, as were installation instructions and configuration files promised on USB. The Sales and Marketing person who runs the business was unhelpful and unresponsive and requests for return and refund were ignored. Only the field installations person who assisted on the phone and by email was helpful and concerned about the service provided. I would not recommend this company to anyone, based on my experience of their service and lack of concern for their customer. I would urge caution in paying in advance for any service from this provider and would insist on verified installation and completion before any payment is made.

Given the response from the company, I leave it up to the reader to decide if the customer service I have received has been acceptable. I have been accurate in my review above and think that what separates the best companies from the others is their willingness to provide good customer service and deal with negative criticism in a positive way to improve their service provision. Trustpilot gives us the opportunity to see reviews, good and not so good. Given my experience, I would never use this company again.

When I asked the company Director for a refund he responded with two options, either I keep the machine and my review here remained online for viewing, or they would provide a refund of 50% and then a final 50% when they received the machine at their premises, but only on the condition that I immediately remove this review from Trustpilot and sign a legal document which they referred to as a "non-disparagement agreement". If this condition was not met they would not honour a refund and cited a business-to-business transaction on what they termed a bespoke manufacture (their standard A3 ProMill) did not give me any rights to a refund. I took the first option as I dont think anyone should be bullied into removing a Trustpilot review and this was my only practical alternative. I leave the rest up to the reader.

Reply from Bionica Systems

Hi Ken,

Thank you for your comments. We do not usually need to respond to reviews however given your comments and in view of the additional help and support we have provided you in a number of areas, we feel your remarks are wholly unfair not to mention largely inaccurate. We would not normally feel at home commenting on an individual’s personal circumstances or relationship with us so will keep this to a minimum however given your comments, we must provide some form of context here.

When discussing your order, we advised several times that our goal is to produce machines and systems which are as good as they can possibly be and amongst the best systems available anywhere – we use all the very best components from around the world, employ a highly skilled and dedicated workforce and subsequently price our machines based simply on this cost price together with the overheads our service and value-add attracts in order to produce world-class machines and a first-class support and backup service (see all the other reviews).
The end pricing of our systems is a result of the above and we do not usually move away from our strict protocols and values regarding the system build, delivery, installation, training and technical support service.

You made is abundantly clear you were working to a very tight budget and in order to assist you, we made (what we now know to be an error) efforts to try and support you both financially and operationally by moving away from our strict protocols specifically around delivery and installation operations in order to help reduce cost, bringing the machine within your budget and giving you as much value as would can deliver.

With the exception of machines outside the EU (where we use a trusted shipping partner), we always personally delivery all of our machines with at least two engineers sharing the driving and together conducting the installation and training with our end customer.
This is headed up by Cody who you refer to as the ‘field installations person’. As I am sure you will agree (as will all our customers), Cody has world class knowledge in the field of CNC and manufacturing and like all our customers, you have both his email address and his mobile phone number to use as and when you wish or need – whether it is technical support or simply need some advice regarding the machine or your end machining operation. I know you have used his services already in order to rectify the issues you were having connecting the machine to your own PC/laptop.

In order to save cost, you opted to move away from our typical full turnkey solution and use your own PC/laptop as well as delivery of the machine and controller by courier.

The machine itself was built within our discussed lead times. Blaming us for delayed delivery is incredibly unfair as we tried for many weeks to book the courier shipment of the machine to you however you were largely away from home on family business. In order to conclude matters swiftly and help you out, both Cody and I offered to deliver the machine personally, driving it over to you in Northern Ireland via the ferry. This would have cost the company in excess of £1000 – a great deal away from the amount you paid for the courier service which was less than 25% of this cost – again your schedule being away from home meant we could not find a solution in this manner. You then gave us a delivery window of a week which we used to ensure the courier delivery took place during this time when you would be home.

Unfortunately, there was some minor damage to the machine by the courier, however, this was indeed very minor with the spindle reservoir coming away from its securing – this is not a big issue and easily resolved.

With regards to missing components you have mentioned, the only delayed parts were some additional collets for the spindle of which we included for you at no cost to you within the order as an additional form of support to get you as much as equipment as possible within your budget constraints.

I know Cody has been working with you to configure your PC/laptop to run with the machine – again this would normally be done by us personally when on site and on a PC/laptop supplied by us however as you wanted to use your own unit then Cody has supplied you with the electronic files and telephone/email support remotely to get your machine up and running.

As you can see from the other 14 reviews at time of writing, our products are highly regarded by customers who are experienced in this field and who understand and appreciate the value we provide them alongside by means of operational support and technical assistance not only with the machine but also with any areas of the manufacturing process where the machine may play a role.

As always, we remain at your disposal to honour the warranty and technical support you may require moving forward.

Thank you,
James & the Bionica team

Excellent work !!

Everyone at Bionica Systems have worked hard to deliver the machine in time and abroad and to provide ultimately efficient installation and support on-site.
The machine itself is more than impressive (worked with much smaller CNC from others since 5 years) and gives a very professional and sturdy impression.
No doubt it will perform like I want

I bought the Supermill package last year from Bionica systems and found them helpful and professional. James Listened to my requirements and helped advise on the best product to suit our needs. The machine was delivered installed on the date promised and training was excellent. The support team have been available via phone and email and have responded quickly to any queries we have had.

The machine itself is impressive and look forward to exploring its capabilities further.

Bionica Systems, UK made CNC machines have my full reccomendation!!

Bionica Systems have provided us with an F84 Super mill machine which caters for 8x4ft sheet material and smaller. Right from the outset James, the head of sales has been very helpful in providing all the information required for me to be fully confident in investing in one of their machines. With the confidence that I was buying a quality and hand built machine, made in the UK, I felt certain this was the right choice. I can now very much confirm that my trust in Bionica Systems has paid off after owning and operating the machine for 5 months. The team were also very accomodaing when booking the delivery and installation of the machine, to suit a project deadline in which the new machine was a critical part in the process. We have a great working relationship with Bionica Systems and are regularly in touch for any small queries. All of which the team accommodate and either answer these small questions direct, or send me to right place for items such as Tools, Router Bits or Tutorials for the software.

I cannot hesitate to recommend Bionica Systems enough!!
I’m very pleased to have found Bionica Systems. The machines offer great flexibility in terms of installation, as they are ‘extrusion based frames’ which do not require huge gantry cranes and can be installed by a small team. Again, I’m very pleased to have invested in the machine and now provide CNC routing and cutting services in Sheffield, which has allowed me to grow a stronger business. Thanks again James and all the Bionica Team!!

I can’t recommend these guys highly enough

I can’t recommend these guys highly enough. If you’re a small business like myself, looking to expand then look no further. Having never had any experience with Cnc machines at all, I had a whole range of queries before taking the plunge. James and Cody could not have been more helpful answering my phone calls and emails. Once I decided on the best machine for my needs, the installation and training was booked in and carried out without a hitch. We’re 4 months down the line now, the machine has never missed a beat and although it’s been a steep learning curve for myself, being able to pick up the phone and get instant support has been invaluable.

Bought a Promill in September last year for light machining of plastic and metal prototypes along with low volume production of electronics housings - a good experience from visiting the factory in Devon to delivery and training in Warwick.
