Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 171 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Travelers frequently complained about excessively long queues, poor organization, chaotic management, and frustratingly slow processing times throughout security checks and passport control areas. Consumers also pointed out that the terminal facilities felt extremely cramped, dirty, unpleasant, and severely lacked adequate seating, working elevators, or accessible charging ports. Though some reviewers noted that getting through the airport on certain days was surprisingly straightforward and relatively quick compared to previous travel experiences. Furthermore, a few people mentioned that specific airport staff members were remarkably helpful and polite, while other individuals also appreciated the convenient parking options available nearby.

Left on tramac after arrival, no jetway, stariway lift not functioninig

I was left on the tarmac after disembarking KL 1049 with no help after disembarking. I cannot use stairs, so was last off the aircraft, with help (no jetway in use, no advance warning). Stairway to terminal is three levels, impossible for me. Lift was not working. Help was gone. Pressed help button in lift several times. No answer. I had to literally crawl up the stairs, took a long time. Door at top was locked. I banged on the door until someone (very surprised) came to open it. Wrote to airport, no response. Phoned and left message for return call -- no return call.

A disgusting terrible airport

This is by far the worst and most disgusting airport I’ve ever been in. I’ve travelled the world and used many third world airports but they are all far better than Bhx. Who ever manages this airport should be sacked it’s a smelly dirty dump.the building has been going on years, the queues are disgusting, security are slow and rude, if you are waiting to pick a flyer up there’s nothing but costs coffee and the odd little shop. Honestly it’s NOT an international airport it’s a total joke. The car parking is robbery and there isn’t enough seating for the capacity in departures and there’s no charging ports anywhere. COMPLETE DISGUSTING AIRPORT

This airport is a sh1thole

This airport is a sh1thole. A couple of years of knocking it around and it's worse than ever. Plus the departure boards are mostly broken and when they do work the information is wrong.
And then when things go really wrong there is no information or help desk so when a flight is cancelled (even though they dont tell you on the board!) there is no way out of departures.

POOR POOR POOR!

Another poor experience at an airport that should do much better. Problems with ‘staff shortages’ throughout the day as explained by a frustrated sounding pilot led to an hours delay arriving into Birmingham then a 15 min sitting on tarmac before alighting aircraft then a 1 hour 15min wait for baggage (not the first time) a international airport it maybe a successful international airport is certainly is not. Poor and shameful. Stop advertising about more destinations for 2026 rather than sorting out staff, service and communication levels. It screams of weak and poor management team.

If the wheel chair assistant would not…

If the wheel chair assistant would not leave me and if he would handed my bag to me before leaving us alone .
The wheel chair porter left me near coasta coffee and said his time was over and could not wait for the car to come which was 11 minutes away so I said ok . 26 Dec Friday Arron 8 pm .
But that’s where the problem started I had to push my bags to parking 1 near the ticket machine 2 then I came back to push my moms wheelchair to the parking lot and forgot to load the bag which was under the wheelchair. I came back next morning 27 Dec to find the bag but unfortunately no body wants to help me . The ncp manager or the wheelchair assistant or the luggage point or the coustomer service or the airport security coustomer service. Very bad service it’s just the security camera can be checked from the time 19:50 till 21:30 you can say or 21:40 that’s when my brother was loading the bags and I got my mom to the car .
Danial griffihs
Operation manager ncp parking thanks to him who Chek for us and said a suspicious person was around the bag and 9:21 pm he robbed the bag . Since I was going to Leicester I realized about the bag once I reached and was off loading all the bag .
I called the airport strait away but they said they are closed until next day morning 8 am . If they would have send some porter on that same time to see if the bag is left alone I would have got my bag which has loads my moms clothes and Christmas n new year gifts for my friend. Sad that’s Birmingham Airport does not care or bother to take responsibility on time when I called then and neither when I visited them early on27 Dec every department was just passing the parcel saying this does not come under our jurisdiction’s.
Exactly your porter left my mom alone did not hand over the bag to me before leaving and the call i made of reaching Leicester if that would have been attended and my bag would have been found on the spot

Birmingham Airport - an awful experience.

Having used Birmingham Airport previously, with a reasonable experience. We were surprised as to how awful it is now. Long queues for security, with staff obviously not working to give customers a good experience. Luggage delayed on return for over an hour, unable to disembark the plane as stairway not provided and only one bus provided which had to shuttle passengers, creating even further delays. Restroom facilities were unhygienic and poorly maintained. All in all an awful experience both flying out 21/12 and on return 28/12.

Worst staff

I had a helped help my aunty at the airport however due to a unforseen situation the helper needed assistance from his supervisor however the supervisors were rude to this helper and did not help instead were very rude and disrespectful to him. Felt very sorry for this staff member however the supervisors made the whole experience bad for me no staff member should be treated by a senior this way

Horrible Airport

Horrible Airport.
Just because we live in Birmingham, I use the airport otherwise it’s not a preferred airport.
The staff are horrible with no customer service, one guy even said- it is not my problem when we complained about a service. I will not use this airport again. The WORST airport in the world.

Birmingham Blues

Every time I fly to or from Birmingham I think it can’t be as bad as last time - but the airport has a way of surpassing expectations and not in a good way. On the plus side the nightmare security issues that have plagued the airport in recent years seem to have been resolved but all that has done is drag the airport up to the average nothing more. The infrastructure is looking tired - the shuttle from the train station is now permanently reduced to one rickety small train which is visibly showing its age with longer waits between trains.

The return journey saw Birmingham back to its awful best. Landing in the pouring rain, we waited 20 minutes on board - the pilot said he thought we might be waiting for a bus, despite being 50 yards from the terminal. Eventually common sense prevailed and we were allowed to queue in the rain to climb some steps up to a covered walkway leading to a series of dingy corridors. Staff loitered miserably at various points but couldn’t be bothered to open the doors properly in the corridor for soggy passengers. Once in the main airport the route to the train station through the airport was shut to passengers because they were fixing some ceiling tiles - no warning signs just barriers blocking your way. Retrace your steps, find another exit, go outside, walk to the shuttle in the rain - all part of the improved customer experience. Another wait for the single packed shuttle but enhanced this time by a large pile of vomit (not fresh) outside the shuttle exit doors - a personal welcome to the West Midlands from a traveller. Not even a hint that someone might see it, never mind clean it up. One star for getting security up to the basics of every other airport - zero stars for everything else. Avoid if you can - there isn’t a poorer airport in the UK.

Sat again on the ground with an air…

Sat again on the ground with an air traffic control delay all because Birmingham Aiirport management can’t get their ground service suppliers to staff the airport.

Absolute joke of an airport. Happens every time we use this airport

Shocking behaviour and attitude of Security Staff

Shocking behaviour and attitude of security staff. They do everything possible to make sure you are left traumatised by their security procedures. I am 67 years old and have never been so badly treated by security staff with complete disrespect and I have travelled the world and through almost all UK airports. It starts at the boarding check in where there are bunch of people who look like thugs waiting to pounce on you and checking what has already been checked by the boarding pass machines. They stand next to you asking for your passport and boarding pass menacingly not answering any question on why it was deemed necessary to recheck the boarding pass and passport. It then follows to the security scanners and to the other side where the young staff clearly love their power status and are eager to impose it on anyone they deem worthy of their attention. If there was a minus rating the award would go to Birmingham International Airport. Good Luck if you are unfortunate enough to be selected for special attention! I for one will never use Birmingham airport to fly into or fly out of. It was so bad I would rather go to another airport and be treated like a human and take any hit on extra costs to get me where I need to go

Passenger bottlenecks; bad toilets; overpriced

Generally poorly laid out, endless works and passenger bottlenecks, especially through duty free.
Why is so much space given to it? Lack of charging ports, lack of departures seating. Very overpriced profiteering in the shops.
The worst thing; the toilets are few, under supplied, smelly. No hooks or space for baggage. They're also entirely out of action during the infrequent cleaning.
Had to use this airport but it's regrettable. Be better.

Swore at and threatened by the pilot because he mistook me for someone that was vaping behind me. I don't vape . Thrown off flight because the angry pilot would not listen. Forced to spend another 6 hours in a environment that is far too hot and uncomfortable.

Very poor customer service

Very poor customer service, especially at security deserves a minus rating, antagonistic behaviour towards their customers.
We’d need our own security to protect us from them!

I created a security alert at…

I created a security alert at Birmingham Airport. I bought a banana. It was no ordinary banana it was an M&S banana. This triggered an alert when I went through security. The banana was in my bag. The contents of my bag had to be unloaded and checked. Apparently this is a regular occurrence. It’s not the shape of the banana but the high level of potassium. I travel the world and always have to submit to a pat down because of my replacement hip. However this was not the case at Birmingham. The security system detected my banana but not the metal screws in my hip. I offered to surrender my banana but this was declined. Much paper work had to be completed. I was asked about my hobbies. I said travelling up until today. I should have said eating bananas but I don’t think this would have gone down well. The security staff were very good and I apologise but perhaps they should include bananas in the list of products not to carry through security. You have been warned. Wait until you are airside to buy a banana.

Why no signs

Paid to park in car park two .walkways open on arrival but when we returned from our trip in the dark and rain the building work had blocked off the walkways . There was no signage telling how to get to the car park .We are in our seventies and had to pull our cases along a dark wet main road then climb under the main entrance barriers to get into a car park we had paid a premium to use . Disgusting

If I could give it no stars, I would!

This week I had my second landing of 2025 into Birmingham Airport. This has to be the WORST airport in the World, bar none. In the 5 months between flights, nothing has improved. Thay can barely handle one flight arrival at a time, but when two arrive, they are the absolute worst. If I could give it no stars, I would!

Birmingham airport is an absolute nightmare. The queue at passport control are a nightmare. The prices in the cafes and Boots are disgusting (£5 for al small bag of chocolate!)

Overpriced, poorly run, rude security staff.

I wish there was another nearby airport to use instead!

Hideous experince

Hideous experience resembling trip to GOTHAM. To see our second largest city, have such a decrepid, filthy, disorganised bunch of sheds they call an airport, its so.sad! The staff are up against it and are all dressed like Mi necraft villagers! The toilets are utterly disgusting. The ridiculous queing system. On its knees advert for Britain. Look to the share holder owners underinvesting and poor planners and you will hopefully figure out whats happenning !!!
