Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 171 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Travelers frequently complained about excessively long queues, poor organization, chaotic management, and frustratingly slow processing times throughout security checks and passport control areas. Consumers also pointed out that the terminal facilities felt extremely cramped, dirty, unpleasant, and severely lacked adequate seating, working elevators, or accessible charging ports. Though some reviewers noted that getting through the airport on certain days was surprisingly straightforward and relatively quick compared to previous travel experiences. Furthermore, a few people mentioned that specific airport staff members were remarkably helpful and polite, while other individuals also appreciated the convenient parking options available nearby.

Worst Airport in the world.

Worst airport in the world.
Landed from Tenerife at 00:15 this morning, left the plane reasonably quickly, through passport control, everything ok up to now, went to collect baggage, waited over an hour, eventually came soaking wet obviously been waiting outside until someone could be bothered to load it up, Grandsons buggy came on large baggage conveyor also soaked.
Not the first time this has happened last April waited over 2 hours for luggage,
Came back from Cork in March waited in the aircraft on the apron for over an hour because there was no one available who could drive the steps.
Every time there is something, a comedy of errors.

Aggressive behaviour from staff ("Abi" who works for swissport)

We boarded a Ryanair flight to Malaga, We had the most awful experience with the girl checking boarding passes and passports her name badge read “Abi”
We could see her behaviour was erratic to say the least she had the baggage measuring trolley which she was pushing along the queue awkwardly and bumping into other passengers.
She stopped at us and asked us to put our cabin bag in, no problem at all, we are frequent travellers and insure that all our luggage is to the correct size to meet the airline instructions, My Wife was in conversation with another passenger and said “ all these obvious over size bags in the queue you would think the staff would check them first wouldn’t you, jobs worth” Abi obviously over heard and with this, erupted into a rage this is no exaggeration.
Other passengers starred with disbelief as she shouted at my wife “no way are you boarding as priority go over there and you will wait till last"

My wife said to me “how rude is she” with that the girl returned again, in a terrible rage now screaming at us.
I had to politely ask her three times to calm down, she really had lost all control, her eyes even looked dilated.
I asked for the manager and she was so enraged she couldn’t even comprehend what I was saying she just continued with the onslaught of shouting at us, I then realised there must be something wrong with her, she once again screamed at my wife saying “go and sit on that chair”, I asked her Colleague if he could check us in and he said no sorry, she wants to do it.
We handed her the passes and she shouted my name is “Abi with an I” so she was aware that we would obviously have to take this further.
This really did get our holiday off to a really bad start.
We are posting this this account in the hope it will stop this experience happening to other people, and that the person in question will be thoroughly investigated, as she was very aggressive and I fear that passenger's more vulnerable than us would not have coped.

Dirty and Grubby

Dirty and Grubby. That's the best I can say about Birmingham airport. There's not enough seating for anyone who does not wish to sit in a trendy bar or café. The lounges are not worth the price they're asking. Also a distinct lack of information regarding flights as different flight info boards give different info, as does the website. Try asking someone for help. Good luck with that. This is the last time we're using this airport. For a so called international airport, Birmingham is having a laugh at everyone who uses it.

Trying hard to be as unpleasant as possible

Ok to get there. Luckily we arrived long in advance. Waited half an hour to register our luggage as only one person was available. The queue beyond us was growing by the minute. God knows how long they waited. Luckily I had bought a fast lane supplement for the security check (7 pounds each). Otherwise there was an enormous queue . Maybe 45 minutes wait, maybe more. I would have become mad. To top everything extremely un pleasant security staff. Not a word of a reasonable explanation or excuse for the chaos. This has been going on and off for years. What the airport is doing to be so bad I don't know. And it's not as if we had a choice as it is by far the closest to home. It's probably why. They rely on a de facto monopoly.

Airport Lost our items

Lost items
Customs identified a power bank in our suitcase. They opened the suitcase and took out the power bank and 2 new vapes. I took a photo of these and was given a receipt by the officer and told to collect the item when we return after our trip.
When we returned and went to collect the power bank and vapes we was told there was no record of these been taken, even though we had a receipt and photo of the items in a sealed bag.
Thanks Birmingham airport. I wonder where they went? Great security, not

Shocking service, dirty Airport

For an International Airport, it looks dirty and delapitaded. The queues were horrendous. We were flying with TUI, no staff to assist at baggage drop, they were too interested in standing around talking to one another. We then got sent through Jet 2 security, where there was only one scanner operating. We nearly missed our flight. The staff treat you like cattle, no interpersonal skills. And then to top it off, we landed at Sharm El Sheikh, and our bags were still left in Birmingham. I wish I could give a minus rating, 1 is too good.

Disappointing return to Birmingham……,

On returning to Birmingham we were both absolutely disgusted by what we experienced. Firstly, the toilets were discussing. Dirty nappies thrown on the floor, filthy toilet bowl which was the same in every toilet. People were apologising as they came out! Not acceptable!! 🤢
Next, the baggage for five flights was all on one luggage pickup point. We waited in total carnage for over an hour for our luggage. The worst we have experienced. We have travelled to various countries and this experience made us frustrated, disgusted, ashamed and very annoyed and sad.
Come on Brum, we can do better than this surely!! People who are arriving in the UK for the first time should have a better experience than this, infact we all should!!!

Injured At Security & Not One Security Member Asked If I Was Okay

Security staff would want a reminder that they work in airport security where machines do most of their work and not as undercover spies for the CIA.

Bit of advice - Take off the HiVis vest and calm the F down.

Today going through the airport one of the boarding pass machines malfunctioned and closed in on top of me. It caught my arm and has left scratches and bruises all over my arm. Instead of being asking “are you okay, would you like any assistance?” I got a “Hey You - come over here so I can check your passport & question you”.

I was then held for around 10 minutes being looked at as if I was some sort of criminal who had managed to make the machine malfunction with the power of my mind.

Moving onto actual security.

I asked a member of security staff would you like me to take off my boots? While putting my belongings into the tray (with my gashed up arm, again no assistance). They said no, it’s fine.

Got to the XRay machine to then be shouted at by another security member (who has was clearly ramped up on the power of the Vis) for having boots on.

I told them I had already asked if I should take them off to which their response was “how would that security staff know if you should have boots on” … mmm I dunno maybe because you all work at the EXACT same part of airport security??

Staff needs to get a bit of humility back.

One of the worst places I ever applied for a job was Birmingham Airport

One of the worst places I ever applied for a job was Birmingham Airport, especially the team responsible for security. Their recruitment process is based on randomness and a blatant form of discrimination. The people assigned to test applicants are junior staff, some with no more than one or two years of experience in the field. Their approach is unprofessional and unfair, leaving applicants at the mercy of unqualified individuals who have no real authority to assess candidates.

Most of the time, people are selected based on prior friendship or acquaintance, which is a clear sign of the degradation and shallowness of their methods. The staff in charge of hiring seem more interested in convenience and amusement than in professionalism. I noticed extreme negligence, with a style that can only be described as unprofessional, unethical, and degrading. The whole process lacks proper oversight and professional integrity.

Terrible terrible staff

Terrible terrible staff. The queue for checkin was so long. I arrived early and still had to wait 45 mins at the baggage drop. When i mentioned this to the staff her response was that i should have done priority check in even though they had to also wait ages for it so what was even the point of booking that. I am glad i didn’t. She also mentioned i am the first one complaining nobody else did so i had to should ‘stop’.I flew through Aer lingus.

Landed 16.11 baggage at 17.34

Landed 16.11, waited 78mins for luggage to even start coming out. Ours at no announcement or anything. Ask swissport why, reply is it's busy, they are unloading another flight..I assume As in not enough staff. Not acceptable for a flight already delayed by 45mins...they know when you are arriving. Tui representative got involved but didn't speed up.
Got a photo of the baggage screen but cant attach here.

At Drop off short stay car park the pricing signage has been removed. There is no longer a list of prices on any of the new signage. Does not state you have 15 mins free parking or costs per. Extra minutes . The new ticket machines in both in drop off and short stay car parks are in the sun so cannot read the new instructions. I witnessed a deaf man who could not get any instructions of how much or how to pay. I spoke to one of the car park attendants via the speak to mr button as he had gone from £12 to £52 in a matter of minutes. The attendant could not understand him so cost went over £60 when I had to leave him. This is not acceptable and a very ingenious way to increase profits.

Considering how much money and time has go into renovating the airport!

Considering how much money and time has been spent renovating the airport its not finished and the facilities are worse than ever. Female toilets are terrible, but the prices seem to go up and up, £8.50 for a sandwich and a pack of crisps! I never normally buy but with an early flight didn't want to buy on the plane as that's even worse! I have a blanket ban of buying from the airport and I wish more people would do the same instead of buying over priced items as its peaks volume, much more than these reviews! Along with the airport drop off for 15mins at £8 I think now, gone up from being charged £1 extra by a taxi! Stop giving your money to these sorts or Orgs and Companies who really don't care about people and just Profit!

Dissapointing experience

On departure 2 weeks prior , simply not enough toilets for volume of passengers and the ones in use were disgusting , overcrowded , evidence of people smoking with fag ends in toilet bowl . What a shame this airport has gone so downhill . On arrival home , crazy queues at luggage carousel , people barging , pushing as several arrival flights all on one carousel. Elderly less mobile passengers had no chance . Awful experience .
