The company is not flexible, meals are average
The first deliver went well. The second one not so much. They won't allow you to edit meal changes a week prior to delivery date. My second delivery was mostly breakfast meals which I did not signed up for. I never selected a plan that included breakfast, only lunch and dinner. I contacted them and they blamed me, said the random items were picked by the system based on my preference and sorry to lose my business.
I got charged over $200 for breakfast meals, eggs and vegetables. I bet each meal cost them under $2 to make.
I would rate zero if I could
I would rate zero if I could. First of all they scam you out of your money before you place your order. It’s supposed to be easy for seniors to navigate. I have called to cancel which I thought was done but I still had an order coming. I didn’t even choose the order. They said it was processed already. I refused it from fedex & now they are telling me that I can’t get a refund.
Bland, soggy, disappointing
The meals are less expensive than other "healthy" meal competition on the market. I paid about $10 a meal for two weeks. They were mostly inedible. Either soggy, or bland, most of the time looked very unappetizing (brown and yellow). One of my teenage kids said their school's cafeteria offers much nicer, greener, and fresher choices. More than half the time, I barely ate half of the (small) portion, threw out the rest and had an apple and yogurt to fill my stomach. So in that sense, I did eat healthy...the frozen meals you can get at major grocery stores are way better than these. I get it, when you remove excess salt and want to be under 600 calories, it may just not be possible to deliver than in a frozen mass produce package.
Not really a menopause menu
It seems to me that the menopause menu is exactly the same as the standard menu. I really don't think they address different diet needs. The veggies are soggy. I feel like most of the meals have a weird after spice left on your palate. Even the meals that are not labeled spicy have this weird spicy thing going on. It seems expensive for the amount of food you get in each meal. I don't recommend it.
Don't fall for this Scam
Don't fall for this Scam! We tried the 1/2 off one week promotion just to give it a shot. The meals themselves were not TOO bad, just massively lacking in flavor, but nothing salt and pepper couldn't fix. The problem came with then being automatically billed into a subscription plan at full price afterwards. As soon as I got the credit card notification, I called their customer service and explained the situation and was basically told too bad. Not only did were they not willing to work with me at all but the order they forced upon me didn't even follow the actual order I did place. That trial week I had ordered all Lunch/Dinner options, the force upon me order was sent with several breakfast options which, those were in fact, bad! I would highly recommend avoiding this service at all costs.
This company is an absolute nightmare.
This company is an absolute nightmare.
I cancelled my BistroMD subscription BEFORE the New Year, well in advance of any new billing cycle, and yet they charged my card again anyway. Now I’m stuck with overpriced meals I never wanted, never approved, and explicitly tried to avoid.
Customer service is essentially non-existent. There is no meaningful way to speak to a real human being. You’re funneled into useless AI chat bots and email loops that go nowhere, repeat scripted responses, and resolve absolutely nothing. This feels intentional.
Let’s be clear:
• I cancelled properly
• I did not authorize a new charge
• They took my money anyway
• There was no real support when I tried to fix it
This is predatory subscription behavior, plain and simple. Charge first, ignore later. If you value your money, your time, or your sanity, do not give this company your credit card.
Plenty of meal services exist that don’t rely on shady billing practices and automated stonewalling. BistroMD is not one of them.
I will be disputing this charge and warning others everywhere I can.
Disgusting Food
2* stars for efficient delivery, but the food is disgusting. Feel like I'm eating dog food. Threw away the majority of my meals.
Missing 7 meals from my package
Missing 7 meals from my package. It's extremely overpriced and the portion sizes are absurdly small. Many of the meals I received has less than 200g. 3 meals make up for about 1.2lb of food, per day. If you want to starve and feel robbed, go for it!
Food is gross
This is my first - and last - delivery.
The meals that were edible were like the old time airplane food. So many were not even edible and wound up in the trash. They not only taste bad, but are full of ingredients difficult to pronounce.
Three meals have already gone into the trash today.
Cannot recommend.
No delivery again
No delivery again. They don't send the meals you order. The food is getting worse. I have had it I am going to cancel. The only good thing is I did lose weight, portion control and low sodium and sugar have helped me get my numbers down. Too bad they can't get their logistics resolved.
If I could give zero stars I would
If I could give zero stars I would. I was scammed by this company and as I can see, I am not alone. Yes, I put my credit card information in to see the menus offered. I did not order any meals. On 10/1/25 I received an email stating that on 10/3/25 I will receive my $56 worth of meals. Panicking, I called them. No use as they do not answer the phones. I emailed several times. I had to look up difficult directions to "cancel" a subscription I didn't even know I had. They try several times to talk you out of canceling it. I received an email about 6 hours after I contacted them stating that I signed up and there was nothing they could do. I don't even know what food I am receiving. Beware everyone! I would like my money refunded and to cancel the food that will be going to waste.
3 orders and every single one wrong.
3 orders and every single one wrong. I placed 3 orders and every single time I was sent wrong items, many of which I refuse to eat. I cancelled today and I would like them to pick up the box and give me a refund although I doubt that'll happen. At least Nutrisystem told you when something had low or no stock. On to Factor.
I would not even give them one star if…
I would not even give them one star if it was allowed.
My very first half price delivery arrived unfrozen, wed, soggy and smelling rotten. I had paid about $100 half price on the introductory offer. I had to lug the entire box in and to the back door to put it all out in the trash. It was a lot to carry and lift to the outside trash can. It smelled horrid.
I tried to contact customer service and was surprised to discover you really can't contact them. You can email. You can message, you can call and receive a voice mail.
Via email they generously offered a $45 refund.
Can you believe that? I paid $98 so I ended up paying about $55 for the privilege of carrying the sticking mess to the trash.
Scam
Scam! Can't get a hold of customer service and never received my meals.
This appears to be a scam!!!!!!!!!
After I setup my account, I changed my mind and decided to cancel, but even though there's a subscription cancel button, I get an error message.
They do not answer their phone. In fact, the greeting on the phone always says they are closed because it is not business hours. That's false because I checked during business hours and get the same recording.
Caution: If you create an account, they will not allow you to cancel the subscription!!! This appears to be a scam!!!!!!!!!
As a new customer of less than 5 weeks…No.
As a new customer of less than 5 weeks on the diabetic plan, the food was decent, but their delivery is inconsistent - delivery 4 days late, missing meals, missing snacks, I received someone else’s entire meal plan (with her personal information) instead of mine, etc. Just ongoing. And the customer service is completely non-existent. They still charged me for all the missed items. I can’t recommend them at all and it really feels like a deliberate ripoff at this point. They’ve demonstrated zero concern that people rely on these meals for their actual health.
Never had one issue with HomeChef for years. I only switched because I wanted a diabetic plan.
Extremely Disappointed – Poor Quality Food and Rigid Cancellation Policy
My boyfriend and I recently tried BistroMD for the first time, and unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. The food quality was shockingly bad—honestly, I’ve had better meals on airplanes. Most of the dishes came in plastic containers, and the whole experience felt like a more expensive version of Lean Cuisine, but somehow worse.
Several of the chicken meals smelled off and tasted strange. We were initially worried they might be undercooked, but eventually realized they were just made with very low-quality dark meat. Out of all the meals we tried, maybe one was passable—the rest were difficult to eat.
The only mildly redeeming part of the box was the snacks, which were actually decent. But that wasn't nearly enough to justify the cost or the hype.
I canceled my subscription 2 days after we received our first box. Unfortunately, I was told by customer service that "production had already started" for the next shipment and they couldn’t stop it. They repeatedly emphasized that with thousands of boxes in production, pulling mine wasn’t possible. It felt like I was just stuck paying for food I knew I didn’t want.
In the end, what we got was overpriced, ultra-processed food that came in microwaveable plastic trays. If you’re looking for quality or freshness, this isn’t it. I had hoped for something healthier and better-prepared, but honestly, supermarket frozen meals are cheaper and taste better. Not impressed at all.
Very disappointing!
I chose 8 meals in my first (and only) order. Although the packaging and delivery were excellent, the meals were not. Besides being bland and requiring me to add my own salt-free seasoning, the green beans and sugar snap peas were stringy, the pork tenderloin was tough and chewy and the chicken was dry. The portions in some meals were even smaller than what I might get in a supermarket-bought frozen dinner like Healthy Choice. The meals are very overpriced, especially when you add the $9.99 delivery charge. I won't be ordering from MyBalance/BistroMD again.
These people are crooks
These people are crooks. They do not send reminders so you are out of luck if they send food you cannot eat. The meals are too expensive for the small amount they give. There is no way to cancel your subscription online and I got no reply when I emailed or called. I had to cancel my card and get a new number to keep them from charging it.
Terrible Customer Service and Food-
Terrible Customer Service and Food-
I had troubles with BistroMD from the start. I signed up due to a promo offering 50% off your first order. Shortly afterwards they sent me an email cancelling the promo order and then shipped out a full-priced order that I didn't get to select so multiple of the meals were not to my taste. Unlike every other meal service company they don't notify you before the selection cut off date in case you want to select your meals or skip an order and once they charge your card its "too late" to cancel that order. The customer service in general is terrible, the people on the phone are unhelpful, and the food itself is overpriced and, after trying multiple of their meals, doesn't taste good. Steer clear! There are so many better meal delivery services!!
