While we don't verify specific claims because reviewers' opinions are their own, we may label reviews as "Verified" when we can confirm a business interaction took place. Read more
To protect platform integrity, every review on our platform—verified or not—is screened by our 24/7 automated software. This technology is designed to identify and remove content that breaches our guidelines, including reviews that are not based on a genuine experience. Pseudo-intellectual Boy's Club Circlejerk
The forums are a joke. You can't hold people accountable without getting banned there. It's an echo chamber where these smug guys stroke each other's egos. Despite Blu-ray.com being a good source for information about video and audio specifications, I don't take the forums seriously at all.
Poor administration
This site is good for keeping track of new Blu-ray/4K releases and for finding various deals. I never used it for the latter purpose because it's mostly via Amazon, and I don't support the big A.
I can't say anything else about the site that is even remotely positive, and I would caution anyone with a semblance of humanity against joining the site, even though membership is free. Free doesn't always mean painless. Being a member allows you to record your collection (a minor benefit) and post in forums (a gateway to hell). The forums are wonderful in theory but terrible in execution, as they are dominated by the same handful of users and various comments can result in an arbitrary ban. What's disturbing about this is that some long-time users are seemingly given a free hand to spout racism, homophobia, misogyny, etc., but if you post a comment calling out this behavior, you can expect to be banned for engaging in politics...or something; the site's forum "rules" are vague and enforced at the whim of the site admin. You can be banned, temporarily or permanently, without any sufficient explanation being provided, and there is no way to contact the site about inappropriate bans, or for that matter, any other reason. All "contact" links lead to the dark hellscape that is the forum. If there is a site administrator, and I assume there is one based on the snide comments that accompany the ban notices, said admin is hiding comfortably behind a wall of anonymity that allows him to arbitrarily dictate who is allowed on the site. An authoritarian regime, to be sure.
Less disturbing, though no less irritating, are the long-time users who engage in gatekeeping and refuse to answer any new user questions if the answer can be found by somehow searching the forum. Overall, the site feels like an impenetrable boy's club of privileged, narrow-minded old men who want to complain safely in their closed-off cyber fantasy world, while censoring any voices of dissent or inquiry.
Great for info, but stay off the forum
Great site for finding info on blu-rays, but the forums are cancer. Lots of snobs, gatekeepers and elitists, and the moderators behave like dictators. Dr. Svet Atanasov, the guy who only reviews all the Criterion releases, frequently puts his personal, very conservative opinions in his reviews and is unable to admit that he's wrong. Check his Do the Right Thing review or read through the Dekalog thread for example.
Beware of scam and too many rude members
I have been one of the members in this site but I been inactive for a long time. If I go to this site, I just to get some reference. Good place for your reference on movies especially for physical media but I would suggest you never to register as member and never leave your thoughts or opinion on this site. Too many rude and arrogant people. If you write your opinion and if someone does not agree with you, he/she will attack you like there is no way out for you. One more thing, never buy or trade anything from the member in this forum. Too many scammers. I have been scammed once in here.
Unaccommodating Site Owners
The people who control this site do not respect online anonymity nor open discussions. I got banned for being accused as a sock account. Do not register an account on this site if you use a V.P.N. This site's managers do not respect your online anonymity to avoid Orwellian government surveillance. They ban people who use I.P. addresses from V.P.N.s. So, this site is not anonymity-friendly when you want to register an account anonymously with a V.P.N.
My Favorite Video Database
I love Blu-rays! Build your collection of DVD's and BD's, write reviews and upload images of your home theater systems. If you have a question about HD, receivers or anything video related, ask in the forums.
