Our Second Bathroom Refit by Bolton Bathrooms
Bolton Bathrooms first fitted our bathroom in 2005 and the result was excellent, thanks to Gary, who did the survey and provided the quotation and to Lee who fitted everything.
We approached the company again this year (2023) for a complete refit, essentially to replace the bath with a walk-in shower for health reasons.
It was Gary who came along to do the survey. I also learnt that Gary had owned the business originally and was now working for the new owner, to whom he had sold the business.
Dan did all the design work for us and was most helpful, listening to what we wanted and offering suggestions on how best to meet our needs. Dan provided the quotation and arranged for an installer, Peter.
Peter worked hard, single-handedly, for two weeks and stayed late on the last day to complete the work. The task was not without its challenges for us all.
While removing the existing equipment, an existing connection in the water supply broke, resulting in a leak that penetrated the ceiling in the dining room.
Another leak occurred through the light fittings in the kitchen and hall, due to an oversight by Peter not capping off an open pipe when the water was turned on after altering the plumbing.
A third small leak through the light fittings at the back of the kitchen occurred when Peter altered the waste plumbing and an existing connection was accidently dislodged, allowing some residual water to escape.
All this occurred in the first few days and left us wondering about Peter's ability as a fitter.
Peter faced another challenge in that the shower base supplied was unsuitable because it did not leave enough clearance for the fall of the waste pipe. Peter resolved this with Bolton Bathrooms and fitted a different shower base, on supports.
Another snag was that the tap fitting was unsuitable for the basin provided. Again, Peter overcame this by obtaining a different tap from Bolton Bathrooms, which, although more expensive, was provided at the same price.
The tiling and the fitting of the bath screen, Mira shower (which I provided) and furniture, complete with quartz top, was excellent. Peter also fitted the large cupboard with illuminated mirror doors and wired it to an electrical connection from the loft I had provided but not yet wired in to the supply. (I did so after the fitting was completed. I qualified as an electronics engineer.)
The shower seat we had chosen could not be fitted for technical reasons and we decided to keep and use the shower stool we already had instead.
The end result was worth all the inconvenience and after a shaky start, Peter had certainly redeemed himself.
A lady at Bolton bathrooms was most helpful in providing us for a refund for items that were surplus to requirements after completion.
Without the leaks, I would have rated this experience with five stars I and have no hesitation in recommending Bolton Bathrooms.
