This hotel is quaint and in need of some refurbishment. The bedrooms are comfortable and roomy.
We found the staff to be very friendly. There is a frequent bus service into Edinburgh. For people with mobility issues, please note the hotel lacks a lift, and our room was a crazy double-back on itself up/down flights of stairs - but this added to the charm...
Breakfast was plentiful, and dinner was very nice. We all fell in love with Mungo the hotel cat.

1 star hotel not 3 star

We booked into this 3 star hotel for 2 nights and it was not worth 1 star. On arrival the receptionist was no where to be found. Another guest advise we take a seat as she would turn up later. Eventually after 15 minutes the receptionist did turned up giggling saying she had lost her key. We got the keys to our room and were told the 2nd floor turn right, no offer to have anyone help with luggage. Didn't find the room 305 as the doors only went to 303.
My wife went back to reception asking for help finding the room and was told we hadn't gone the right way.
Eventually with much annoyance the receptionist took my wife to the 2nd floor and turned left to the room. When my wife then said now she had to try and find me the receptionist just said she was sure if my wife searched she would find me and then left.
The hotel is in poor shape and requires a lot of small low cost repairs, The hotel is not worth 3 star but more like a one star with rude staff. Breakfast was cold and had been sitting in containers for a long time to.
