I ordered tomatoes April 7

I ordered tomatoes April 7, end of May I had already planted, and called but had to leave a message. Immediately I got an email saying they would ship soon. I immediately told them I didn’t want them and wanted a refund. June 1 I received a package, again contacted them and said they were too late. Customer service is poor and a big lack of communication. I will never use them again, and suggest others find a better company.

Ordered rose bushes, never delivered!

Ordered 2 rose bushes in beginning of May(2nd). I didn’t receive order for 2 weeks. I sent a customer service inquiry, heard NOTHING! Finally called May 27th, 3-1/2 weeks later, I was told “oh yeah, we won’t be able to deliver those”. Demanded a refund, however growing season in Wisconsin isn’t long, so weeks matter! Will never use Burpee again!

Cold customer service, and berry plants don't bear fruit

I bought a plant in fall 2020. It never germinated or bore fruit. I decided to give it some time to see if it would flower or fruit and it never did. The pandemic was distracting honestly and I didn't notice their 1 yr germination guarantee meant that if it didn't germinate EVER they wouldn't help. I emailed customer service and they said very coldly: Your purchase is no longer covered for refund or replacement.

It NEVER bore fruit. It's not like it bore fruit within a year and then died. They didn't even apologize - a human touch makes a HUGE difference and they didn't have one. Very disappointing customer service.

Wrong plants

Slow shipping. Poor quality plants. Wrong plants

When I contacted customer service it took 4 weeks to get an answer. They denied they shipped the wrong plants but didn’t verify what they thought they shipped or what I ordered

Edit. A second much more thorough email explaining the order arrived in a timely fashion

I ordered from burpee a starry night…

I ordered from burpee a starry night hibiscus and it arrived dead. I tried so hard to nurse it back to life, to no avail. They sent me an pink swirl hibiscus to replace, and it's now dead.
Horrible experience 😪

Worst Live Plants I’ve Ever Received

Without a doubt, the worst live plants I’ve ever received. Plants were tiny, in poor condition (3 of the heirloom tomatoes didn’t make it). Received a bay tree that cost $25, and is only 3” tall. I will never purchase from Burpee again.

Faulty shipping - no customer service response

Plants were not appropriately packed and arrived damaged. Two requests to customer service over two weeks have gone unanswered. For me at least, the Burpee guarantee is worthless.

"Nice" response to post from Burpee but still no contact - actions speak louder than words.

Burpee has no empathy or compassion for new customers!

Burpee has no empathy or compassion for their first time customer here. I received 20% which I greatly appreciated. I had to spend over $60 in order to take advantage of the 20% which is more than I had in mind. However, when I placed an order that weekend of April 21. They had a free shipping coupon going on at the same time to waive $3.95. I was denied for a free shipping. Their supervisor said no. I tried again to explain that I could easily go to Amazon or eBay. They didn't care. So, I guess I won't be shopping there again until they adjust their attitude toward to new customers.
Burpee, don't forget that you have a policy of TOTAL SATISFACTION GUARANTEE!!! For $3.95 shipping cost, I believe you could have waived it for that weekend for a first time customer.

Seeds are questionable !!

Check expiration dates closely. Some seeds are questionable.

For some reason I can’t get any of their watermelon or egg plant seeds to sprout.

The seeds don’t sprout whether sown directly into the soil, or 2 weeks or longer !!! I have even tried to soak the seeds too! Nothing !!

This place is a joke

This place is a joke! Plants were as miniature as you can get! Both tomato plants died 2 days after I received them. Pepper plant is not going to survive either. Plants are ridiculously over priced & then you are paying a high cost for shipping (dead plants). Very disappointed! Word to the wise, stay away!

Shipped Wrong Order; Won't Fix It

I placed an order for a couple seed packets, and although they were both listed as in stock, they split the shipping so I received one packet in about a week, and after two weeks, finally received the other "in stock" shipment - which turned out to actually somebody else's order that was shipped to my house! The package contained all the personal info of the lady who ordered it, which felt a little creepy that Burpee would send that to me. Anyway, I contacted Burpee through their website to fix the problem, and I received an email back stating, "We have received your ticket number XXXXX. We are experiencing a higher than normal volume of emails at this time. A member of our team will review your request and reply as soon as possible." It's been 10 days since I've submitted the ticket and am still waiting for a response. If they are THIS overwhelmed with upset customers that they can't address my issue in 10 days (and counting!), can you imagine the sheer number of complaints they must be getting?!! The utter incompetence (or uncaring attitude) must be a sight to behold at that company! I'm sure Burpee will post a response to my review here encouraging me to contact their customer service so that they can quickly and kindly resolve my issue. News flash! I already did that - 10 days ago! Why don't YOU call ME to fix YOUR mistake, Burpee! The ball is in YOUR court, not mine!

Burpee doesn't care about individual gardeners

In March I placed my first order for plants with Burpee because their website indicated the item was ready to ship immediately. It turns out it wasn't even close to ready to ship. Customers count on the ship times posted for garden planning and its unacceptable to be off by weeks. 10 days later my item still didn't have even a ship date scheduled and I decided to give up and hunt for the plants locally and requested a refund. Burpee refused claiming the item's status had changed and couldn't be cancelled. They told me to refuse the package. However it took Burpee another 5 days to ship this order of plants that they claimed could not possibly be cancelled. I went through the hassle of arranging the package refusal with UPS. Burpee only refunded me the cost of the plants and I'm out their overpriced shipping fee for an order I asked them to cancel many days before it ever shipped. This process was a huge waste of time and money for everyone and Burpee staff were unhelpful at every stage. When I've encountered problems with orders placed at other companies, those companies work hard to try to earn my trust. Other companies who ship things slower than promised or make a mistake in the order will refund shipping and send store credits for future use. Burpee only cares about large stores it sells to and does not care at all about providing individual customers with quality service.

$53 worth of zinnia plants arrived…

$53 worth of zinnia plants arrived today.
Leaves on 75% of plants had mold/mildew.
Plants were twisted in on themselves from overgrowth; making them spindly and too tender to handle.
Some growth tips of plants were black with mold/rot; meaning no growth in height as those have to be trimmed off.
I bought these because I thought SURELY Burpee would do better than my home-gardener experienced self could...
That's a big NO!
I will NOT buy live again from Burpee, and will actively discourage others.

I ordered plants 6 weeks ago

I ordered plants 6 weeks ago - never delivered, order never updated. Our planting season in central Florida begins in mid Feb.
I e-mailed customer service and it took them 5 days to get back to me claiming they were shipped - no one in customer service researched my complaint since the website stated my plants were never shipped! I then called customer service - no clue! A manager from shipping was supposed to get back to me - no call! Called customer service AGAIN - no clue! A manager from shipping was supposed to get back to me - second time no call! I waited a third day - still no call. This has been going on TEN DAYS without an answer! I called customer service AGAIN today - still no clue! I told them at this point I wanted a full refund - enough was enough! Customer service refused to give me a refund until they heard from shipping to confirm my order was not shipped. Ten minutes on the phone and nothing. I asked to speak to a manager. I was told AGAIN someone would call me back. I said that was not acceptable and wanted to speak to a manager right away. 20 minutes into my phone call and never spoke to a manager but FINALLY shipping confirmed that my order was never shipped and I got my refund. One of the worst customer service experience of any company I have dealt with: no sympathy, no empathy, not listening to the needs of the customer, not caring to make things right after all I have been thru, etc. I am a new customer and have spent hundreds of dollars this season. I will NEVER order from Burpee again after the way I was treated. Has this company grown too large and forgotten about customer service and care? What a shame!

Two months of waiting

I am incredibly disappointed. I ordered a root 2/5/2023. It is now April 5th and I still have not received my order. I contacted them March 5 and they said they were currently shipping for my zone. A second month later and it still hasn't shipped. I send in another message for an update. A week and a half later still no response. This company has the absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. Truly. When I've spoken directly to someone on live chat, they have been incredibly rude and just repeating the same unhelpful response until I stop talking. Being kind goes a long way I honestly would have been more patient than I now am if someone gave me any sort of respect OR HONEST RESPONSE about my order.

This company sucks

This company sucks. It's planting time and I still don't have my order. And 3 employees assured me on March 29 2023 I would hear from a manager on March 30 2023. All 3 are liars as I have yet to get the call I was told I would get. In addition, their prices are 4 to 5 times higher than your local nursery. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere as this company is overpriced and all they do is lie to you once they take your money.

Do not buy from Burpee - Or buy an ice pick so you can plant when they decide to ship them.

Do not buy from Burpee. Buy your bare root strawberry plants from Nourse instead. I purchased from Nourse in the past and loved their services and the ability to pick a shipping date. I bought late and so Nourse was out. I found them on Burpee a couple months ago, but they didn't give the ability to pick a ship date when I submitted the order. I reached out to them and they told me that I couldn't pick a ship date. Well they arrived today. I guess I should go and dig up the frozen snow covered ground so I can "plant as soon as possible."

Beware of product reviews - they don't publish the negative ones...

I tried to leave a 3 star review on their site for a live plant that arrived soaking wet in a box full of loose dirt and they "moderated" my review, saying it wouldn't be published on their website. No profanity, etc. Now that I know only the good reviews get published I won't be shopping this site again.
Edited to add: my review also mentioned that the size of the plant was extremely small compared to the photos on the site and included photos so that other customers could see the size before purchasing. That’s related to the product. It is also the responsibility of the company to pack an item in a way that will ship safely.

Don't order from the site

Don't order from the site. They use drop shipping which means they don't have inventory on site and they are letting the vendor house inventory and personnel to save money. When you order you pay upfront but they don't send your order out for up to 28 days which means burpee uses your money interest free for 28 days
