Lost First Place To Rival Restaurants.
We have stayed at the Cairngorm Hotel a couple of times, and we have eaten in the restaurant during every visit to Aviemore over the last 40 years. It has always been our favourite eatery due to the fast & friendly service, the huge variety of good food on the menu, and the Scottish Baronial setting. This was our second visit this month and, though it still rates 5*, we feel standards are beginning to slip. Several (not all) of the staff were a little brusque (perhaps under-trained, poorly managed, feeling under-paid or unappreciated?) and the range of main courses at lunchtime is now a bit run-of-the-mill. The exception was the White Lady (pancake) dessert, which is very filling, but has never disappointed. There are now better restaurants in town, which is sad.
