Shoddy
Shoddy, lazy, ignorant and useless organisation that bullies and intimidates.
Health & Safety is not a priority for the Trust
The boastful material appearing on this organisation's website belies its indifference to its Health and Safety responsibilities.
In June my family experienced a "near-miss" incident on one of the Trust's poorly maintained and operated swing bridges at Saul Junction on the Sharpness Canal. To assist the Trust, I sent an email to the Customer Services staff setting out the risks and suggesting improvements at the site. I received a response promising that the matter would be referred to "the Regional Team". Since then, the Trust has ignored every follow-up email requesting details of the progress of its investigation.
Because the Customer Services department no longer appear to be interested, I wrote to the Headquarters staff at Ellesmere Port, but that letter has been ignored as well.
It is plain that the Canal and River Trust is very good at designing a website, but the promises made on that site do not match the Trust's activities on the ground.
Canals are well known as hazardous places, and it is astonishing that this huge organisation remains so relaxed about its Health and Safety obligations.
Spiteful organisation
CRT seem to delight in antagonising boaters. There is nothing charitable about this organisation.

The worse year of my life was 2020 when i signed up and paid the CRT. They basically do nothing, the boats next to me are basically rats who stole everything off my boat to the point it was immobile. Yet i get messages to move on and they stay unmoved for over a year. Drunks and people sleep along the whole Paddington arm and nothing is safe. They take your money and run because i cant work out what i paid for as I've only ever seen one worker in 18months.

This is the worst organisation in the UK. After a year, wihtout notice they have sent me a solicitors demand, for money that has been paid to them. I disputed with the solicitor who said they would issue a CCJ, if I didnt.. and could not help me. I called Canal and river trust and they said as the case is now with solicitors, they couldnt help. It's disgusting... I am now going to pay becuase what choice to people have.. and create a small calim against them and hope they are so disorganised, that they end up with the CCJ. I will do my best, to find everywhere I can leave a review fo their awful serivce.
Disappointing customer service
Like the other reviewer, I have to leave the CRT a single star for their poor customer service. I am a residential berth holder at a CRT owned marina; we have several issues at the marina which the mooring manager is reluctant to resolve. All of my dealings have been frustrating, met with lacking willingness to assist. In one instance, I sent many emails back and forth about electrical safety concerns, which I was told wasn't their problem. The head of engineering said it wasn't an issue but later changed their mind when I quoted the legal wording as to why they were wrong. I pay a significant amount of money each year for the mooring and boat license, yet the service I receive is appalling. Considering the CRT is a charity that promotes life on the water, they certainly make me want to reconsider that at times!
Inaction
Any interaction with CRT seems pointless, they don’t listen to residents who are raising health and safety concerns and are asking for help and intervention. I just seem to be going round the houses and nothing’s being done about the issues I report
