Avoid Carrytel: A Nightmare Experience for Loyal Customersin

If you’re in the market for a new internet provider, I strongly advise you to steer clear of Carrytel. Our experience with them has been nothing short of a nightmare.

We were loyal Carrytel customers for four years, paying $62 per month for a mere 100 Mbps. Recently, I found out that all my referrals were getting a far better deal—$39 for 1000 Mbps. That’s right, while I was stuck with a slow and overpriced plan, my referrals enjoyed blazing fast speeds for a fraction of the cost. Talk about a slap in the face for being a loyal customer!

Naturally, I called Carrytel to see if I could upgrade to a higher speed plan. Instead of a straightforward upgrade, they told me I needed to cancel my current plan and reapply for a new one. So, we did just that. My wife applied for the new plan, which clearly stated that her card would only be charged after installation.

On May 24, 2024, a Carrytel sales representative rejected my wife’s application. We assumed that meant no charges would be made. We moved on and found a far superior provider, Start.ca, which offers high-speed fiber internet at an affordable price. Unlike Carrytel’s outdated cable system, which barely delivers 200 Mbps despite their claims of 1000 Mbps, Start.ca provides reliable, high-speed fiber internet.

Imagine our shock when we discovered that Carrytel still charged my wife’s card, despite rejecting her application. To add insult to injury, Carrytel claimed they sent us equipment that needed to be returned, even though no installation ever took place!

This entire ordeal has been incredibly frustrating. Carrytel’s lack of communication, deceptive pricing, and horrendous customer service have left us outraged and regretful of our years of loyalty. Save yourself the headache and avoid Carrytel at all costs.

Beware of their little increases over multiple months!

I was with them for more than 5 years, at first it was cheap, then they'll increase a few bucks on random months until it is about a little lower than other big ISPs. I did not check my electronic bills every month and when I found out, it is already 1.6x than my signed up price! I guess this is what I get for using a Chinese owned telecom That is why now I cancelled my service and will never use them again!

Eye popping price increase

I was fairly happy with them except for rare outages until today when I got an email saying that due to the global economy my monthly charge was increasing by 25%! I can assure you my wages did not go up 25% since I started with them.

Horrible internet and company

If this rating system allowed me to give rating in minus, I would have rated them a minus! I bought the 100MB download speed and somehow, the connection is very poor all day. I do not plan to buy carrytel ever again. New customers, please avoid this if you can, it's a horrible company with very poor internet speed no matter which pack you buy.

I wish I read reviews

I wish I read reviews. Carrytel isn't interested in being a good company.

I think maybe the bank doesn't allow them to take money from my account? Because they wanted to but I have to log into pay bill, but they have horrendous support and creative billing practices and the speed isn't anything I was charged for since I've been testing. Seems like outright fraud to me and after reading the reviews, I can see and experienced they are not interested in being upright with their customers.

Very bad service

Very bad service, internet down everyday, have to reboot the modem 2-3 times per day. It is a scam, not recomend at all.

have outrage for ur service

have outrage for ur service, stealing away my money because you guys dont do followup on cancellation calls. I hate your thieving guts, coporate thieves. Fcuk you!

Dont waste your money with them, i beg you! Customer service sucks , they would litteraly verify ur call before offering u a great service. They are professional thieves. I honestly hate you guys for keeping my cc on file and not removing it for my security. I swear to God I will escalate this issue until i get my fill. I'm not gonna keep quiet for stealing my money you PIECES of Shnitz!

Absolutely terrible customer service…

Absolutely terrible customer service and horrible technical support. I signed up with Carry Telecom in March of 2023 because or their attractive pricing for 250Mbps speed. Almost immediately I experienced poor internet speed far below what was advertised. These low speed periods always occurred between 6:30 PM and 11:30 PM. The speed I was receiving between these times was usually in the single digits ( 2 Mbps to 9Mbps) rendering all my equipment useless in the evening. I assumed that I was being throttled between these peak hours. I contacted Carry Telecom and was advised to submit a Slow Speed Data Collection report. When contacting Carry Telecom I always experiences customer service reps. that could barely speak English. You would think that English speaking customer service reps. would be an important part of the hiring process for a Canadian company , but not for Carry Telecom. After submitting the report I was advised to return my modem for a new modem. I received the new modem, but this did not resolve the problem of poor internet speed. I was once again advised to submit another Slow Speed Report. Carry Telecom then dispatched a technician ( from Shaw) to try resolve the problem. The technician added a COAX filter to the modem , which again did nothing. I was asked one again to submit another Slow Speed Report. After the 3rd report was submitted I never heard back from Carry Telecom. After 8 months of this nonsense I contacted them and cancelled the service. It took nearly 2 months of calling and emailing to get my equipment deposit back. I called Shaw and setup a new account. Their technician setup all the equipment and I finally had working internet . The lesson I learned was that you get what you pay for.

Customer service is very hard to deal…

Customer service is very hard to deal with, in fact Canada is one of the worst country on the planet for ISP providers and banks. Anyhow, my son wanted to upgrade the existing service, but the account in his moms name and we are travelling 10k miles away, my wife sent an email to request an authorisation for my son to deal with ISP, they refused the email and requested that she calls, my wife called last night spent long time and requested again to add my son with full authority on the account, the son called last after and reported back that his request denied because of no authority. The son called 24 hours later, still no authority, my wife received an email confirming that the request to upgrade the service denied. The wife called again, customer service has no idea why the request is denied!!!
How can we deal with such an organization!!!
I wish this business disappear from the face of the earth, stupidly with no limits.
My wife made 3 long phone calls from international locations just to request that my son is authorised to deal with this account, this is a trivial subject, but it is impossible to be done when you are dealing uneducated morons

Dependable

I've been a customer for a year and a half and only had 2 blips with my internet which they quickly addressed. The staff are pleasant and helpful. Great price and great service.

Horrible Equipment & Service Support

Carrytel promises sooo much and gives so little. Their modems and wifi routers are low quality and their policies are NOT cusyomer friendly. They nickel and dime you to death and dont properly support their products and services. AVOID AT ALL COSTS...You will end up paying for it.

They are really sneaky when you try to…

They are really sneaky when you try to cancel. They tried processing my card for an entire year (opposed to the regular monthly amount) well in advance of the due date, even though I had spoken with them and emailed them in regards to the cancelation. A small company that tries to scam customers when they cut their service off.

bunch of crooks!!!!!!

do not use these guys, they are crooks!! cancelled my account within the 7 day grace period and they charged me a cancellation fee of $69 dollars anyway. tried to get the $88 deposit back on the modem and every time I call i get a different story. Please dont make the same mistake I did and use anyone else but Carrytel! crooked company!!!!!!

Ordered $30/month internet

Ordered $30/month internet. They took $100 from my account and sent me a faulty modem. Sent it back and never got a replacement. Had to cancel my credit card to keep their hands out of my finances. RISKY BIZ.

I have been with Carrytel for about 4 years now. Service is reliable. The only times when internet does not work is when Rogers breaks something, because Carrytel uses rented bandwidth on Rogers lines. Price is decent, but has increased during the pandemic years.

Service failed again

Service failed again, second time in less than a week, and there's now way to contact anyone until 10:00, and the Cogeco service to fix it isn't available weekends. You'd better have a backup plan if you're going to go with Carrytel!

Service speed is not as much as they…

Service speed is not as much as they claim, it fluctuates a lot and every 10 or 15 days i have to reset the router in order to continue using the internet, and all the setting have to be redone again
price is not as cheap as it was before and it is now higher than others with same services
