Disappointed with Chemex—I…

I am so disappointed with Chemex—I ordered a gift for myself, a carafe--and chose the wrong size. When I tried to exchange it, I was informed that unless it’s a warranty issue, they don't do exchanges for items under $75. The item I was trying to exchange cost $52. I ended up paying $30 for this transaction—to buy and return a $52 item. They should state clearly up front that they do not do exchanges unless it is a warranty issue. I would have to click through 3-4 pages to find that information before I made the purchase in order to avoid that exorbitant fee. I emailed them twice and just got the same answer—essentially “too bad, so sad.”

Chemex—Hand-blown or not?

ive made many purchases from Chemex Coffee Makers which is a Massachusetts company. I have bought at least 5 carafes and when I asked them how to tell if my carafe was handblown, they said that i had not purchased my carafe from a verified Canadian seller. When I asked how much a handblown carafe (5 cup) should weigh, they gave me this reply: “ We are unable to provide any further information without authentication.”

How can I authenticate my purchase if they wont provide clues to help me authenticate it? Also, Chemex is one of those businesses that remains anonymous when providing customer service, so we cannot know who is responding to our queries. That is not good business practice, and shows no respect for consumers.

Don't Order from Chemex

We ordered an eight-cup Classic Chemex coffeemaker and it came in pieces with no protective packaging. We ordered it directly from Chemex, so how do they not know how to package glass?? When it arrived, we heard all the pieces moving around in the box. Then, we had to open it to send pictures as proof which was also a little dangerous. We got our refund, but no apologies or explanation, so their customer service sucks, too.

Fortunately, we found a Chemex on eBay for far cheaper AND they know how to package glass products. It came all in one piece thankfully. How do shops on eBay know how to package glass and not a company that ships almost exclusively glass products? Don't order from Chemex, go to eBay and save yourself the trouble.
