When things work, they are OK, but pricey. Due to a mechanical error, my all day excursion was ruined. For a company that has bus regular bus trips, there should have been an "emergency/stan... See more

We enjoyed our tour with Eliza. She was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and led us at a good pace (we were with children and she understood the need for good information but we didn't need to linger anywhere for too long). We would take another tour with her.
Me and my best friend booked this tour with hopes of exploring Tuscany and seeing the beauty of Italy. We were both taken by the how well organized and thought out the trip was. Our guide Ms. Anna and driver Mr. Adam made us feel special and completely safe. Our trip exceeded our expectations!! It was exceptional!! The views, the knowledge and history of all the sites, cities and towns was superb! Ms. Anna is a remarkable lady and made our day grande!!! Mr. Adam was the absolute gentleman and made sure we were completely taken care of! City Wonders tours is very lucky to have such beautiful people that love their country and are able to share this love with others! A huge thank you!! This was my first trip to Italy and this was the best part of my whole trip! Ms. Anna and Mr. Adam are extraordinare individuals! This was the BEST day!! I encourage others to take advantage of this lovely day tour!!
The attendant and guide was very rude, offered little communications. The guide booted a stray cat outside the museum and I got so upset I had to leave the tour. The tour guide was supposed be English, however was in Chinese, maybe this is why he booted the cat because they do not respect such lovely animals.
Booked a Skip the Line tour of The Sistine Chapel and Vatican Museum and everything was more than we expected. Christian met us as arranged with a small group, gave us an informative tour around the Museum, the Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica. He was extremely informative, interactive with the group and good natured. We probably spend about 3 hours with him and it was money well spent - we just can't praise him enough. If you book with City Wonders for an English speaking guide in Rome, ask for Christian - he's fabulous. Many thanks Christian, you just made our day - Hugh and Anne Crawford
We did a Normandy tour from Paris in November 2024. While the things we saw were amazing, and we were able to see multiple sites, I was not impressed by this tour.
I have been to many tours and completely understand the need for punctuality when visiting multiple sites. First the pick up point is confusing for tourists, and should be more clear. Unfortunately, The guide, Daniel, was not clear in his direction, and my group felt extremely rushed at every location. The guide constantly talked about movies and film instead of facts or history. Considering he was guiding a tour specific to Normandy battles, the audience is considerably more interested in things like “why was this village significant?”, “what was the people’s reception to the Allied forces here?”, but no. He spent the whole time talking about himself and giving plot details about Saving Private Ryan.
We arrived at the American Cemetery at Omaha Beach, and he complained that other tours will only give you 30 minutes, but he would graciously give us an hour. But after a short but weaving story about the beach landing, and then him telling stories about himself, we only had 35 minutes to see the cemetery and visit the museum/visitor center. He did not give tips on what to see, or how to budget time, or what was in the museum. We speed ran the museum in 10 minutes after the flag ceremony and were late for the bus. Even though the museum was only open for 15 more minutes, we could not stay only to be done with our day.
He then spent the rest of the bus ride home talking about other World War 2 movies instead of giving information or asking for questions.
Perhaps other tours here are better, with other guides, but I’d be wary.
I went to the Amalfi coast and positano ferry trip with City Wonders and it was extremely fun, fascinating and our guide Vivianna is very organized and she knows what she is doing. I highly recommend City Wonders.
Jullio and vivieena took us on a trip to Tuscany and we had wonderful time. I fully recommend the tour to Tuscany from Rome.
Good Tour. Once on the boat, we were given a short tour of Venice and the surrounding islands. Anna, our guide, explained how Venice got started and grew while many of the surrounding islands were left in a relatively natural state. We also saw that the island of Venice is much more than St Marks Square and the surrounding canals. Murano was an interesting stop, it was our first experience with glass blowing. Burano was quaint. Not a lot to see however. We definitely recommend this tour. We have a feeling our guide made the tour so enjoyable.
Our guide did not show up for the tour of Vatican today. We were told they were hung over. Instead of joining another group which we were told was not possible we wereadvised to just do the self guided tour. Your employees were rude and not helpful. Very disappointed in your service and professionalism. I hope you understand. I would not do this to my customers. I would not even give one star but had to in order to continue.
After paying $386 for a semi private Vatican tour, a City Wonders rep met us 40 minutes prior to the tour to tell us they were unable to contact our guide and that they were likely not showing up (how did they know?). The solution was just Vatican tickets with a value of $50. They didn't even provide the tickets to St Peter's basilica which we never got to see. And only a $136 refund after we pursued it, as they claim we accepted the solution--ridiculous. The company offered nothing proactively. Their "rap" was well rehearsed and they acknowledged it happens frequently as can be confirmed by TripAdvisor reviews.
What a disappointment that a company would prey on people on their vacation.
No one at the meeting point, no contact number just the main office, spoke to them and they said they couldn’t help or call the guide. Basically stole €200 from us. AVOID and book elsewhere.
It was very disorganized to figure out the correct group, no signs just people in blue shirts and lots of people asking where they need to be. The bus was fine, long ride. Stopped at essentially a gas station convenience store. The time at Pompeii was the shortest part of the trip, more time should be sent here. The lunch that was included was not an adequate amount of food for the long day, no protein or option to order more food. The bus ride up to Mt. Vesuvius and hike were not necessary. Then a 5 minute bathroom spot was a scam of a lemon factory demonstration and tasting that lasted 30 minutes, the bathrooms there were porta potties. This stop was not disclosed at the time of booking. The scheduled end time was 7:30 pm and didn’t get back until 9 pm. Extremely long day. Do not recommend if you don’t want to feel trapped and starving. We did the math and taking a train from Rome and buying a ticket would have been way cheaper. The guide at Pompeii was knowledgeable but you could easily look up information online. Didn’t see much of Pompeii because it was a large group and had to constantly wait for people
The tour of the catacombs and crypts is really interesting- you start on one side of Rome and end up near the Travestere area where the food is amazing. Emiliano was our guide and he was witty and entertaining. He also knew a lot about Rome - although at this stage I've been told by 3 different guides how many churches are in Rome and none are the same.
Not clear enough on location meeting point.
They say to meet at Notre Dame however they need to say there is more than one Notre Dame; people who are not French do not know there is more than one! Very rude costumer service. Made our own way to Versailles and they wouldn’t let us join the tour. Had to buy new tickets to enter. Very disappointing indeed!
I purchase the day trip to Tuscany for me and my mum and was presently surprise by how good it was. We have wonderful tour guide Viviane and driver Sergio (hope I got the names right), they are kind and are very helpful. We visited Montepulciano and Pienza, 2 ancient towns in Tuscany and the surrounding scenery were amazing with rolling hills, vineyards and olives trees etc. We have a 3 course lunch and wine tasting at Fattorio Pulcino ristorante. It was motto bene.
The whole trip took about 12 hours but it was worth it.
Do not book with this company. They are horrible. I booked a tour to Giverny and Versailles. All correspondence advised to meet at meeting point at 8am. They admitted the tour left at 755am. The meeting point was not easy to get to in Paris but we did arrive by 8am. They left my group and another couple. And now refuse to refund my 348.00 I paid. I called customer service and first agent hung up on me before I could explain problem. The 2nd agent could only say no refund. I wrote an email explaining what happened and provided their correspondence that said meet at 8am. Provided phone and WhatsApp log that showed their tour guide did not call me. They just kept saying the total opposite of what actually happened. In my opinion they are very risky to book a tour with. I have worked in the travel industry for over thirty years and I have never had anything like this happen before.
This review pertains to the day trip from Rome to Pompei Amalfi and Positano. Our guide was Errico. We left Rome at 7 expecting to go to Pompei first. Errico took us to Positano first. He instructed us to not eat lunch in Positano but wait to go to Pompei because he knew a great place there. We went to Pompei late because that is when the driver of one of the vans decided to show up to work l guess. No one gave us a reason. Arrived in Pompei by 2 o clock hungry and tired but Errico decided we shouldn’t have lunch then but have the tour of Pompei first and then lunch which would be at 4:30. I tried to explain to him that my kids werr hungry and couldn’t wait till 4:30 to have lunch. He didn’t want to hear it. After the tour in the dead heat of august we went to the restaurant only to be told that it’s closing and we should have our lunch outside or on our lap in the bus! I don’t think this is what City Wonder had in mind, but that is what Errico the guide and his partners in crime decided was best for them. We paid hundreds of dollars and felt rushed, disrespected and left to starve. I don’t usually write reviews but l need to get the word out there to spare people a terrible experience.
The worst customer service. Wanted to buy a couple of day tours for my family trip, got a promo code online for 5% discount. Couldn’t use it at first, because had to confirm the dates of the trip. When the dates were confirmed, got back to book those two tours online at CityWonders website, but it looked like that code wasn’t valid anymore. Emailed CityWonders a couple of times asking for the promo code, got the same reply, telling me to call them or use the chat.
Over the phone and chat, asked the agents if I could have a promo code, so I could just input it in the shopping cart at CityWonders website and buy those tours, but both agents refused to provide the code, telling me that I can get 5% discount only under condition that I have to book the tours with those agents over the chat or phone. I told them that I feel uncomfortable to provide them with my credit card number over the phone or over some chat. They obviously didn’t care. Plus, It would involve me spending the time on spelling names, providing details of tours etc., rather than just getting the code, applying it online and purchasing the tours. Very bizarre business practice.
It’s understandable that those customers service reps don’t care that I can go to competing firms and buy those tours there. And probably the company also has the same views.
I’ve had a horrible experience with this company. My mom and I had booked a tour of the Loire Valley castles, leaving from Paris. We were on a once in a lifetime trip together and my mom was particularly looking forward to seeing the castles. We arrived at the meeting point before the scheduled departure time, but the tour was nowhere to be found (despite the information in the booking email saying there would be a guide in a uniform holding a sign.) There was another couple there as well also booked on the same tour so we had four people looking for the tour. The area around the designated spot is fairly open, so if there was a guide and a tour bus, or anything that looked remotely like a tour we would have seen it.
At the departure time of 7:30, we were then frantically looking for the tour. We tried calling and texting and did not get through to anyone or get a response. When we finally got through to someone at City Wonders at 7:40, we were told that the tour had already left. This was devastating because we could not understand how they had left, before their departure time, without everyone scheduled to be on their tour.
Since there were several of us, we asked if we could meet up with the tour along the way. (They couldn’t have been far, especially in Paris traffic). We were told that wasn’t possible. I was told to email customer service, which I did promptly. However I still have not received any sort of refund for this horrible experience.
I was told by City Wonders that I would not be refunded. They are claiming that the tour did not leave before the departure time, they claim that they waited on us until 7:35. I’m not sure how that is possible. There was nothing that looked remotely like a tour anywhere in the vicinity. Also, if you are waiting on people, and you see 4 people running around an empty area, wouldn’t you think those are the people you are waiting on?
I am extremely disappointed in City Wonders beyond poor customer service and dishonesty in this situation. I have travelled a lot and been on many tours in other countries and have never encountered anything this poorly managed. I am continuing to pursue a resolution to this. It is simply not acceptable for City Wonders to not make this situation right.
Anyways, this has been my experience, that City Wonders is awful. There are much better options out there for tours.
Horrific horrific horrific!!! Don’t book and save your money. If you are 3 min late (because the gallery is badly signaled in the park) they can’t find their own guides. Save your money and don’t buy with them
