More than a full stack bootcamp! I LOVE the Dojo!

I LOVE the Dojo!

I think I had the best experience I could have had! I’m so glad I made the decision to go and complete the dojo full stack to become a programmer. What makes the dojo different from all those boot camps is that they provide THE BEST environment possible. Let me explain; when you have to dedicate that much time into a program there is a few things I considered was most important:

- a curriculum that employers would be interested in

- the format of the Boot Camp, I was able to join pre-covid in person and this is why I had such a great experience

- location, i did not want to commute a lot on top of spending a huge amount of time at the dojo. The location was perfect to me.

- parking, yes! Other bootcamp are so inconveniently located that it makes it a hustle to get there. The dojo in Burbank is AMAZINGLY located to a cute outdoor shopping center. 1. Huge parking. 2. Always something going on even late - I felt very safe when leaving the dojo late at night. 3. Free parking (which is a must when you are not able to work for the whole duration of the bootcamp)

- career services. The careers adviser back then really helped me get my current job (while on my last stack trainning) I feel so lucky and grateful for all the events that worked out so well. My now supervisor, came to the school being himself a dojo graduate to offer a job. Even tho I wasn’t yet graduated I showed my interest and applied. Within a week I had a trial of 3 day at their office. Another week after a sign promise of employment. When I finished my last stack and graduated I signed my employment contract and started my full time position the very next week.

- the Burbank dojo is such a good environment by the way it’s layer out, classrooms, open floor, ping pong area, KITCHEN, alunies area. And had sports on Wednesday where you could air out your brain and get to do something together with students and instructors. The whole place is so cozy, you feel in a safe environment. If you need to take a break there are comfy couches. You can store your blankets and anything you like no one is going to steal it. The good vibe is also shared by the students, alumni Ed who are all so nice and understand the hustle and will do their best to help you. Same for the instructors

- my instructor Patrick was the most amazing person, so patient and kind. I really felt in a good environment.

The dojo really lay a good foundation for you to make the best of it. You do NOT need to be the best of your cohort to find a job. I definitely wasn’t, I struggled and I was the first one to sign a job offer. I am sure/ hope that people got really good and well paid job since graduation. The job offer that I signed back then wasn’t high. The reason a lot of people didn’t even apply. But I am now a manager and my pay had much increased. But more than that I love what I do, for who I do it and with who I do it. I have worked many jobs with so many different bosses, colleagues and I have never been as happy as I am now. I can say that I work for people trying to make this world a better place and I have stories that proved that my work had improve the life of people 🙏🏼 I have find my calling.

All this to say that this bootcamp is for everyone to make anything of it

Simply the best!

Super approachable information, presented in an easy to understand, albeit still challenging manner. Coding Dojo has great instructors and has left me feeling 100% ready to jumpstart my career as a software engineer.

Coding Dojo is a great bootcamp for beginners!

Coding Dojo is a great bootcamp for beginners. Concepts are explained in an understandable way and the Learn platform which is the bread and butter of the bootcamp is excellent. You build on concepts slowly instead of learning the more complicated stuff right off the bat. They also spend an hour every day going over algorithms to prep us for our job search after the bootcamp.

My only complaints really are the other students. Algorithms are done in groups, and projects at the end of each stack are solo or group, however to practice the AGILE software development we were expected to do stand ups every day with other cohort-mates. In both the group algorithms and daily stand ups for projects, I had team members who did not contribute and that honestly does hurt the experience. However -- when I did bring this up to my instructor, she resolved it whenever it happened, whether that was moving me to a different group or making algorithm groups larger so that there'd be a higher chance of participation.

I would recommend Coding Dojo to any beginner who is trying to break into the field.

Recommend and with some improvements

tldr; I like the structure of the class and the instructor, however, I do believe that there are some improvement can be made in TA scheduling and group project.

For TA scheduling, I was informed that I took too many 1 on 1 coding reviews every week which I thought was supposed to be encouraging to utilize. For group project, I only got assigned to the other student since the rest of the team members didn't show up. I didn't feel that I got the full experience of co-working because of that.

Regardless of those two points, I'd say I would highly recommend Coding Dojo because this is the program that I persisted in learning coding and finally made my own web app. Being a person who always procrastinates, it's fascinating that the team has a good structure and rules (assignment every week and exams) that step by step leads the students to learn to code and with TA to help when meeting with difficulties.

Great career services and a lot of knowledge to be had.

I took the online part-time Python full-stack course at Coding Dojo, and just graduated last week.
I had a great learning experience through their portal and with the help of the instructors. I originally took the course to learn python for scripting in audio/visual control applications for customization. I looked around at other boot camps and settled on Coding Dojo because of their pricing, and their live teaching; many of the other camps simply gave you access to their learning portal. I had some experience with code academy, so the first few weeks of html and css were more or less review and expanding on what I knew. Michael Taylor was an amazing asset through and bumps or misunderstandings I had throughout this part of the course. Once we hit python, I had some trouble switching gears so quickly, but again, Michael was available to help where the lines weren't connecting. We then spent a month on Python and Django, getting exposure to the back-end programming. This is where things started to click more for me. All the free online courses I'd taken were solidified in my mind during this month
I really liked the one on one meetings, where I could compile a list of things to discuss, and then go through my list with the instructor. Their Mattermost channel also had TAs available much of the time, if I ran into anything in the moment. Drew and Matthew were great at pushing me to understand the issue instead of just giving me the answer.
When we got to the last month, focusing on Projects and Algorithms, we switched instructors to Matthew, who was also very helpful. The change of mind going from one language to another was the hardest part.
We did a solo webpage project and a group one in the span of 5 weeks, which made me learn a lot of new techniques, including Bootstrap and Bulma. I think the most valuable thing I learned through this whole thing, is how to learn in this field. Much of the content can be learned from the programming languages documentation, and this camp allowed me to be in a position to understand how to do that, and what the gears of a website look like and do.
Even though I tried to get at least 20 hours a week in of studying and practicing, I got closer to 15 most weeks, which was enough to get me to pass, but now I'm going to go over all the optional material and reinforce everything I've learned. They give you access to the portal for another 6 months after graduating.
Their career services have been great so far in getting my resume up to snuff, going through the possible pitfalls in the interview process, and the mentality to apply and succeed in this field. Duy has and is continuing to be a great help in helping me transition into this new chapter for me. He's already started sending us job posts and is quick to answer any questions I've had.
The only cons were that, I came across a couple areas in the curriculum that weren't super up to date, but I know they were updating things while my camp was going on, so hopefully that's fixed. I also wish you had access to the platform for longer after graduation, since the price for the course is pretty high, but I'll get as much as I can out of these remaining months that I have access.
I feel like you definitely need to be a proactive learner to get the most out of this program. Having the Coding Dojo team there to guide and answer questions along the way were extremely helpful.

A lot of work but worth it!

The course is awesome! The teachers and TA's are awesome and very dedicated to making sure that you succeed and understand the material before you are able to pass on to the next course. If you know little to nothing about coding and are taking this course, you'll want to make sure that you take the time necessary to do the reading and practice assignments. Also, try to find a group of people to do group sessions, this also allows you to get ready for the real world as well!
All in all, I would recommend this to anybody that is looking to get into coding and has the time to give this course 150%

Really recommended for beginners…

Really recommended for people coming with no prior experience, kinda expensive but instructors really we're putting in work. Only 4 stars in curriculum cause Web Fundamentals module curriculum was a bit outdated by teaching jQuery but still pretty good at everything else. As said recommended for beginners and people who want to start a career in web dev with no prior experience.

Great experience

Absolutely love it! I believe that Coding Dojo is a great boot camp, with great instructors and TAs. As well, great support from CSMs and advices. Instructors create very pleasant atmosphere during lectures and motivate students. There is a lot of assignments and homework to do, but it is rewarding in knowledge you get. Would recommend it 100%.

Hardcore and Fun

It's 3-month bootcamp, so it's hardcore. No joke. That doesn't mean it's grim, however. I met positive-minded people in all of my cohorts. Learning with them brightened my day, made me look forward to the next.
Same goes for the teachers. Regardless of how many times I asked they were there for me. Whatever materials Dojo tells you to study before you start I highly recommend it. Wish it was longer as I'm a slow learner.

Very fast paced but fun

I did the full-time Fullstack Web Development program at Coding Dojo. They weren't kidding when they said that the program will take most of your time during the three months you're enrolled. I really enjoyed the courses and I feel like they were able to help me understand the foundation of the programming languages I signed up for. I also have some portfolio projects thanks to Project Week. It was great to see people with different backgrounds come together and learn from the very beginning. It was a little too fast paced though. Because you move on from a language right away and start a new one, it's not surprising that you can forget what you've learned previously. There were also some things in the curriculum I wish they would've taught (and not optional) such as deployment. All in all, I definitely enjoyed my time at Coding Dojo. Is it worth the money? I'm not sure, but the possibilities you have after completing the program are endless.

The best online learning program I experienced!

Coding Dojo is not my first online learning experience and I have to say I am truly enjoying the program, platform, community interaction and learning. In my opinion Dojo managed to crack the code on delivering an effective & engaging remote / online learning program. The team who makes this possible (Instructors, TAs & Advisors) are amazing, extremely helpful, very knowledgable while still being casual and relaxed enough to deliver an effective yet fun and enjoyable journey. Thank you Dojo for what is in my experience the best online learning program I have taken part in. I am looking forward to being able to sing up to my next stack and to participating in Alumni Community once I graduate!

1.5 months in

I have been attending the coding dojo for a month and a half now and so far it has been a good experience. The staff are ready to work with you at your own pace, assignments are given liberally to ensure practice and upkeep of skills, and everyone is nice to work with.

On top of the academic coverage, their career services also maintains regular contact to ensure that your chances of getting a job as soon as possible upon leaving the bootcamp are as high as possible.

All in all, a good experience. Recommend to others looking to get into web development.

Came into the bootcamp not knowing anything about react or mongodb. Finishing the course, I can say it was worth it. I learned alot and the instructors and ta were very helpful. Left the bootcamp with so much tools under my belt and even more confident with applying for jobs. I was self teaching myself to code and if it wasnt for this bootcamp, it would've taken me way longer than 2-3 months to get the basics down of mern

I like this bootcamp

I like this bootcamp. It was really extra hard for me because I have two small kids and am going through a divorce, but for an average person who has someone to help them take care of chores and meals this is definitely a doable program although alot of hours and at times quite challenging. It feels SO good when you figure out a bug and build the full stack belt exams at the end. When I have shown people what I can make now they seem genuinely very impressed. I just finished last week and am going to look for jobs soon so we will see how that goes but overall I am fairly confident in getting one eventually.
