I tried to open a Girokonto with them,and had to to verify myself with postident three times in person. I had to go to the shop three times, and send them my ausweis again online. After this, I was told that they cannot open my account for reasons they cannot disclose. I've been a customer with commerzbank for 7 years, and opened other Girokonto without any problems.

I am writing to express my frustration regarding the delay in opening our bank account. My wife and I initiated the application process on January 22nd, and today is February 10th. Your company claims to be a digital bank, yet it has been unable to open a simple bank account for three weeks. This is despite completing the identification process and submitting all requested documents promptly.
The customer service answers emails after five days, or they do not answer at all. We both identified ourselves with our residence permits using the AusweisApp, which is an accepted method for identification as it contains all the details of the cardholder, including the address. Yet the bank asked for a Meldebestätigung (registration document). Okay, no problem, I went to the Bürgeramt website and logged in with the residence card and AusweisApp combination and printed out the official registration document that proves our current address. The answer from the digital bank, Comdirect? They said they cannot accept it because there is no stamp on it. I cannot decide whether to cry or laugh. The document clearly stated that it is valid and legal without a signature and a stamp. The bank proudly states they are a German-speaking bank and they do not communicate in English. In English, that is the world's communication language. I have no idea what the managers and owners of this bank think when they are reading the bad reviews about their bank from (potential) customers. Do they not read them, or do they just not care? Their rating is 1 out of 5 on the online review sites, and there are thousands of reviews. And 5 is the best, and 1 is the worst, lest someone misunderstand. This is like living in the Middle Ages, seriously. Very frustrating.

Januar initiiert, und heute ist der 10. Februar. Ihr Unternehmen behauptet, eine Digitalbank zu sein, aber es war nicht in der Lage, ein einfaches Bankkonto seit drei Wochen zu eröffnen. Dies, obwohl wir den Identifizierungsprozess abgeschlossen und alle angeforderten Dokumente umgehend eingereicht haben.
Der Kundenservice beantwortet E-Mails nach fünf Tagen, oder er antwortet überhaupt nicht. Wir haben uns beide mit unseren Aufenthaltsgenehmigungen über die AusweisApp identifiziert, was eine akzeptierte Methode zur Identifizierung ist, da sie alle Details des Karteninhabers, einschließlich der Adresse, enthält. Trotzdem verlangte die Bank eine Meldebestätigung. Ich habe keine Ahnung, was die Manager und Eigentümer dieser Bank denken, wenn sie die schlechten Bewertungen über ihre Bank von (potenziellen) Kunden lesen. Lesen sie sie nicht, oder ist es ihnen einfach egal? Ihre Bewertung ist 1 von 5 auf den Online-Bewertungsseiten, und es gibt Tausende von Bewertungen. Und 5 ist die beste, und 1 ist die schlechteste, damit niemand etwas falsch versteht. Das ist wie im Mittelalter, im Ernst. Sehr frustrierend.

I am customer of this bank for over 7 years.
I had a couple calls with customer service, and each time everything was done easily, professionally and quite fast. I also never waited long for someone to reply to my call.
The Comdirect app is simple, user friendly and easy to use.
So far I never had any negative experience.

Extremly bad customer support. 2 Weeks to answer by email. If you call, you are waiting forever withouth any info on how long you have to wait or how long you are in the queue.
Edit: I hate that there is some employee here quickly answering all the (bad) reviews in here, but no one is atually available for you as a customer.

I have exactly the same problems as one of the reviewers. My German is intermediate and it is very hard to get a simplified answer from any of the attendants. I had a wrongly charge from a company (UmsatzReklamiert) which I should had received 3 months ago, as per the collecting company that comdirect uses to manage refunds (World Line). They confirmed to me that the company refunded the money 5days after I did the claim. The refund is not in my account and every time I call nobody can tell me what happened. They keep saying I have to wait. It’s ridiculous that a bank/company can do businesses with this type of Customer Service! Stay Away from them!!!

If you don’t speak fluent German, don’t even bother banking with this bank. They so unaccommodating. None of their call centre agents can speak English. The giro card doesn’t work in quite a few outlets. I’ve had my card blocked twice for the most silliest reasons.

I have been trying to transfer a portfolio of securities from another broker to Comdirect. Absolutely horrible experience. It took 3 months to complete the transfer, during which time I had to send many emails back and forth with them (they take between 1 to 2 weeks to reply each time) and although the replies were very polite, they were contradictory, unclear, unhelpful and sometimes outright wrong. 3 months after the transfer was completed I still don't have the cost basis of my portfolio and again I feel they just don't want to do it and give me random different answers: e.g. not really answering the questions, saying they haven't received the statements from my broker (which I don't believe), saying they have the wrong format and other series of very confusing answers. I can't believe they can't find an email, even when given a reference number to search. How can they not be able to search their inbox?

Their customer service is pretty bad. The contact form online does not deliver my messages, hence receiving no support with my queries. It is not possible to solve issues through email either. Everything takes days. Quite messy and not helpful. Will be leaving this bank shortly.

I have been in Africa for six days now, and my experience with Comdirect has been nothing short of horrible. From the beginning, none of my cards have been working, which has made my trip extremely unpleasant and stressful.
I reached out to customer service via email, hoping for a quick resolution. Unfortunately, I have received nothing but generic text block responses. Instead of addressing the issue, they ask irrelevant and frustrating questions. One of the most aggravating requests was for my card numbers, which feels like a deliberate attempt to delay providing real assistance.
I sent my messages while logged into my account, as they insist on this for proper support. If you send a normal email, you won’t get any usable answers. This entire experience has left me beyond disappointed with Comdirect. As soon as I return, I will be canceling my account. This level of service is unacceptable, and I would not recommend Comdirect to anyone.
An update 10 DAYS LATER / 25.6.2024: still no answer after 3-4 mails sent emphasizing the emergency of the situation. I have no words.
update 27.9.2024: I am a German citizen and have written all my previous emails in German. However, I chose to write this review in English so that a wider audience can understand the issues I've encountered with your bank. It's also important to note your explicit statement about only being able to communicate with customers in German. This limitation will likely help many potential customers decide to look elsewhere.

I have been with Comdirect for quite some time since they seemed to be one of the technologically more advanced banks in Germany. However, if you are looking for a reliable partner for your finances, Comdirect is not.
My account was cancelled without reason. I assume it is because I did not use it frequently enough and did not generate enough fees but as I said, they do not provide you with any reason. I am sure we could have found a solution actually.

I wanted to change my bank from Comdirect to Sparkasse, because there were always some issues with their Giro and Visa-Cards. So the transfer should happened on the 15 May, but all of a sudden, they blocked my account at the end of April and I couldnt transfer money anymore and my cards were blocked too.
I got no information or anything. Now my partner had to help me out, because my money is still not accesable. Feels like a scam. I can't understand how that can be allowed and that they can still operated in Germany.
the Girocard that they have is not accepted by many machines. It's awful and really unpleasant.

My recent interactions with the customer service team at comdirect left much to be desired. Despite reaching out twice via email and speaking on the phone twice, I found the assistance provided to be extremely unhelpful. The last representative I spoke to was particularly dismissive and unwilling to assist in any way. Despite the urgency and importance of my request for a document with a signature and stamp, I was simply told it couldn't be provided, without any effort to find a solution or offer alternatives.
After many years and out of nowhere comdirect cancels all our accounts (joint, individuals, even junior for my daughter).
Even after escalating in a nice way, asking them for a reason and if we can help with any information they might need, etc. we only received a very arrogant email back insisting on continuing to not provide any reason.
Since we live outside EU and setting up new account structures is taking some time, we asked for an extension of the notice period, which was declined in the same impolite way.
Found in some other forums that CD likes to cease unprofitable accounts (which specifically applies to people who are not taxed in Germany / EU due to higher effort). Even this could still be acceptable, but not the way that this has been communicated and implemented.
If you want to have a reliable banking partner, don't go there.
If I could put 0 stars I would! I left them last year and since then tried to get my finance reports - no joy! They insist to charge 5.90 Euro per month although that is against their own T&Cs and law. Eventually I bit the bullet, paid over 130 euros in fees on 02.02024 AND still got nothing! All I get is auto emails saying they will get back to me... I guess at some point????? On the phone, unless you are still a client, they are even worse.
