I wish all companies today used your business model. I was so pleased with CC that my wife also joined. Christina was the best! She stayed with me for quite a long time until I was up and running.

Billing dispute? Don't bother

I was a customer with Consumer Cellular for about 3.5 years, and for most of that time, I had a good experience. Their customer service was generally helpful, and their basic plans are fine if you don’t need much data.

However, the way they handled my account when I left completely changed my opinion.

I switched carriers because I needed a more affordable unlimited data plan. The number porting process took a couple of days since it happened over a weekend, which is normal and not something I could control. The transfer ended up completing right around the end of my billing cycle.

Before that, I called Consumer Cellular ahead of time to confirm everything, and I was clearly told that my previous bill would be my final bill.

Then I got charged again.

When I reached out, they said that because the port completed on the first day of a new billing cycle, I was responsible for the entire month (~$65) even though I effectively used little to no service during that time.

What’s most frustrating is not just the charge itself, but the fact that:

I was told by their own representative that I would not be billed again

I relied on that information

And then I was still charged anyway

There was no effort to honor what I had been told, and they refused to prorate even a single day.

Being charged a full month due to timing outside of my control is frustrating, but being told one thing and billed anyway is what completely destroyed my trust.

If you ever have a billing dispute with Consumer Cellular, don’t expect them to be helpful or take accountability, even when their own representatives gave you incorrect information.

*I can't reply to Consumer Cellular, but I am aware of their billing policy. I canceled in March and have a second bill post cancellation due in May

Lifelong customer with ATT

Lifelong customer with ATT. Got tired of their mumbo jumbo and crazy billing. Felt like a prisoner in my own phone. Tried to set up service with T-Mobile also a disaster 10 times over with terrible customer service and a huge waste of time. Then I found consumer cellular. Their support, organization, and service is so much better. Night and day from the other carriers.

There's no substitute for professional and competent support

I was paying too much for mobile service with my former provider and decided to make the switch. Though I tried to simply do it all online, the complications of old settings prevented a complete, successful migration to Consumer Cellular. Since there was a store just 10 miles away, I hopped in the car and received immediate, professional and competent support that involved contacting my former provider. One week later? Great signal, no issues, lower monthly bill. What's not to like?

Why 3 stars

I gave 3 stars ONLY because of my first call with CC was a disaster and wasted my time.
1st time: 22 minutes: CSR would not listen to me that my new refurbished phone will not give me the option to restart, only will turn off. He was trying to explain how to turn it off. I told him that that is what I was doing, using the side button and all the phone would do is turn off no option to restart. We went back and forth about this for several minutes. He told me to quit yelling at him. I told him I wasn’t yelling, yes maybe I did raise my voice, but he was not listening to what I was saying. He told me that both my phone are the same, Yes, I am aware of that that is why I ordered my 2nd phone so I wouldn’t have problems, but yet both phone do not act the same. He then emailed me a tutorial which did not work, it explained EXACTLY what I was doing and what he explained, and it was working so I still could not do a restart. It would just automatically shut off. Bad, bad customer service from this individual.

2nd call 7 minutes: I finally called back later in the day. This person I spoke with was listening to me and understood what I was saying. He was kind and courteous. He told me that even though both phones are the same, some phones do act differently due to software. Well that made sense to me. He than politely walked me through the process, and yes, it was different then my main phone.

CC’s Customer service is usually very good. This is the first time in over 10 years that I really had a problem like this and it won’t deter me from continuing to use CC. My suggestion is that if you get a CSR that is not listening to you, please wait for a while and call back. Chances are you will get a good CSR who will listen and solve your problem quickly and easily.

UPS IS YOUR WEAK LINK

Last week I ordered the second iPhone I have purchased from CC. I have no complaint about how the transaction went. Service from CC is good. My problem is, I ordered this phone on Wednesday. It is now Monday and I do not have it. UPS said it would be here by last Friday. UPS, it seems, delivers when it feels like it and makes promises it cannot keep. Since this delivery requires a signature, I have to sit here and wait for them day in and day out. So long as CC uses UPS, I will never order any hardware from CC again.

The CRS was very helpful and friendly

The CRS was very helpful and friendly. My phones had to be unlocked from my previous carrier and they called them and everything was working in about 30 minutes. I started the process on line but since my phones were locked I had to call in. Wait time was only a few minutes before a rep answered.

The reps were wrong or misunderstood…

The reps were wrong or misunderstood the problem I was having, so it made more sense to stop trying to fix it and just get a new phone. For some reason, I wasn't able to find a phone with decent internal storage on the CC website until recently. A few months ago the phones listed didn't do what I needed them to do - have 4 times the internal storage.

I was a customer of Consumer Cellular…

I was a customer of Consumer Cellular for 12 years. Most of my experience was fair up until I terminated our service with them. I always paid our bills on time. On 02/24/2029 we switched to T-Mobile for more features. In the process of canceling my service with Consumer Cellular, we needed to pay off the balance on the phones we were buying. We received confirmation emails, one for each line, with the email dated the same date of 02/24/2026, the date of the switch over to our new carrier. I was told I would receive one more bill from Consumer Cellular, which I concurred. Although my last day of Consumer Cellular use was 02/24/2026, they used a term of “port-out” that wasn’t completed until the next day. So, I got charged on 03/14/2026 for what I thought was the last charge and what I expected. THEN THEY CHARGED ME AGAIN ON 04/14/2026! Remember, I had not used their service since 02/24/2026. That’s 49 days of canceled service. Add to that, once I called on 02/24/2026, I was locked out of the account. I filed a complaint but they would not give. If you Google “Consumer Cellular complaints”, this is one of the many issues with this company.

The price is great

The price is great, especially since I qualify for senior pricing. The only issue I had that was confusing me and took much longer than expected was adding a line. I tried using various links and it gave me difference pricing for the added line when I expected it to be straightforward. I eventually found the best way to add the second line and get the best price, and fortunately, porting over the 2nd phone just took us minutes to complete.

Love Consumer Cellular and support

Five stars for the second person; 2 stars for first person. I couldn't unlock my phone or make calls. I called support; was guided through different things to do. Finally was told I would need to go to nearest store which is 90 miles away. I kept trying the phone and got it unlocked but still couldn't make calls. The next day I spoke with a very nice and patient lady. She had me do a few things to the phone and got the phone working. She was so nice to this 80 year lady and I really appreciate it. I have had CC since 2014 and have never had a problem like this. I will blame that on age, also.

A simple phone upgrade to use an APP

A simple phone upgrade so I can use a specific app. The phone works to make and receive phone calls. I still have not been able to move any data from the old phone or install the needed app. However, my plan has already been "upgraded" from 512Mb to 1Gb to 3Gb due to exceeding data limits. WHAT data limits.? I have made ONE two minute phone call and still can not transfer data from the old phone or install the app (not CCs fault). I do not understand why these two Samsung phones can not transfer data directly (I do NOT have WiFi at home 2-1/2 miles up the mountain).
You probably won't get this feedback because I can not access Google/gMail/..

Change to Consumer Cellular Now!The switch to CC was so easy and fast

The switch to CC was so easy and fast! I spoke to a person to switch my service and send me my new phone. My phone came faster than expected. I then called the number they gave me to get everything set up. Both of these two phone calls combined, maybe 30 minutes. Both of these two people I spoke to were so amazing and explained everything, answered my questions and were so nice. I am blown away. I cannot recommend this company more…. Just do it.
